Sunday Afternoon

And we didn't move for hours!
I was the only one watching NASCAR, though. ha.

Today

It was the perfect fall day here in Ohio!
75 degrees, nice breeze, beautiful skies!
I picked up groceries and spent the rest of the day
outside working in the yard.  I planted bulbs, filled
feeders, hung a new bird house,
and repotted a few plants, all with the help of
my furry friends that crawled out from their shady
bushes to keep me company!  That is, when they
weren't chasing leaves or squirrel watching!
It was so wonderful, I think I'll do it again tomorrow!

Random Thoughts

  1. After several weeks of dry, very hot weather, it is raining! And raining.  And raining. The ground is so saturated, we're getting our side yard 'lake'.  I can still remember Taylor as a little boy asking to go play in the 'lake' when this happened.  One time we had ducks land in it for an afternoon swim!
  2. I'm wearing new contacts!  Yay!  I could tell I needed new ones as the old ones just were not comfortable and my eyesight had changed so much that I couldn't read things on my phone anymore. I got new glasses, too, for when I feel like rocking the librarian look. :)
  3. I've had the weirdest few weeks lately regarding my health.  I had a sore throat and fever 4 weeks ago.  3 weeks ago I had a mild gallbladder attack...first ever.  Saw the doctor on the third day, had an ultrasound, blood work, and was sent to consult with a surgeon. Since I was feeling better, she recommended surgery but when I wanted to do it since it wasn't an emergency.  I have a trip coming up and wanted to feel better before then so I opted to have it done immediately.  But the surgeon's scheduler never called and I continued to feel fine.  So I'm taking it as a sign that one mild attack doesn't mean surgery and am postponing it for now.  I've researched how to prevent further attacks and am taking some supplements for that, like Taurine and Milk Thistle.  Then 2 weeks ago I twisted my ankle! Although I didn't limp, it was purple and swollen. It's almost back to normal now.  Lots of ice and elevating it seems to have worked. And if all that wasn't enough, my age is catching up with me and the first hot flashes have arrived.  WTH?!? These can go away right now and never come back, I'm telling you! haha. There are supplements for these, too, that I'm trying, although without any change so far, like Black Cohosh, Vitamin E and St. John's Wart.  Really need to find that fountain of youth now...
  4. All I have to say about supplements, is...who nams these things? ha.
  5. Really enjoying the Olympics! :)  Staying up a little late each night just to see a bit more.
  6. The gray weather has made it very cozy inside.  And with the heat and humidity, the A/C feels especially nice.  I've had rotating cats snoozing on my lap.  Jack was especially cute stretching out his leg in a hug around my waist so I had to snap the picture above.
  7. OK...enough chatting from me.  Back to photos and very limited commentary tomorrow. :)
What's going on with you?

Lazy Sunday

Well, I think I'm getting over this bug!
Thanks for all your notes and get well wishes!  That cold
turned into a sore throat, cough and fever!  Ugh.
I feel like this afternoon I may have turned a corner
and even walked around in the yard with my camera.
That little walk wore me out...haha...but I got a few
pictures of what is going on out there...

Looks like I'll be picking a zucchini or two in about a week!
Hope I catch them before they are the size of the Goodyear Blimp!

The weather is beautiful today!
Have you had a good weekend?

Garden Helpers

When I go out to water the garden in the morning the
back yard is quiet and peaceful.

Sleepy, furry helpers come out of their shady sleeping spots.

They say hello, drink from the bird bath as I fill it up,
and get a belly scratch while I'm out there!
But their favorite thing is to attack the big long snake (hose)
while I'm watering everything!

Some of them are very serious about protecting the garden.

Very serious!

A Little Veggie Garden

Part of my working outside last week was to get the
veggie garden planted.  We can have frost in the night
through mid-May, so it's safest to wait until June to plant.

It's small and manageable, and just the right size so we
don't have crops that are too big for our family.
I have a little space left and I might put in a row of carrots
and baby kale, but for the most part it's done.

Oh, and various and sundry cats to keep the rabbits from
nibbling on things!  That's always helpful!

Hunting

This was amusing to watch!
The squirrel is not intimidated at all.   He even seems to
tease Jack and Shadow, taunting them by charging at them
and swishing his big fluffy tail!
There's no sneaking....both parties are quite up front about it all.

The cats don't have a chance....that squirrel just goes high into
the tree when they get too close and the branches are too small
to support those cats.  He seems to snicker and scamper off, leaving
them looking quite foolish.  He lets them get pretty close,
though, doesn't he?

A Little Look Back

Before the afterglow from Christmas is gone, I thought
I'd post a few photos from last week.
There was a flurry of wrapping gifts, giving little thank-yous,
filling slippers instead of stockings and feasting.
Lots of fun memories.
I said last night that I'm going to miss the tree when we take
it down.  It's our prettiest tree ever.  The living room will seem
dark and plain without it's glow.  It won't come down until
New Years Day is over, so we have a few more days to enjoy it!

Around Here, Lately

  1. A yummy treat.  Intense flavor.  Delish.
  2. The rain made Garden Girl look like GI Jane!
  3. Last week I started letting Star go outside.  She was begging!  The first few times I stayed out with her.  But she never wanted to go far.  She loves to look around a little and then nap on a patio chair. She hasn't gotten the hang of the pet flap yet and I'm not encouraging it.
  4. The first time Star and I went out, I had to laugh as sleepy cats emerged from underneath trees and bushes to see what we were up to!
  5. I love this picture of Smokey.
  6. Not all the cat stories are happy, though.  We haven't seen Domino in over 1 1/2 weeks.  I hate the not knowing what happened the most. :(
  7. Remember Alex and the glitter?  I'm still finding it everywhere!  On me, on Marmalade, on Alex's toothbrush, in the bath tub... you name it! ha.
  8. A cowboy boot carrot.
