The first of the season!

Boy did this bring back memories!

We used to catch fireflies and put them in jars

at my grandparents house when I was a little girl.

Such fun memories!

Don't worry...this one was catch-and-release. haha.

Honey Comb

Some of you may remember the video I posted last year

of the bees flying in and out of my lovely ivy topiary

I had on my back porch last summer.

I couldn't bring my ivy in the house when the

weather turned cold or we would have had a house

full of bees! This past spring I pulled it out

of the pot to see what the bees had been doing

in the dirt and found this.  The bees were all

dead, unfortunately.  I guess they didn't survive

the frozen winter either!

No bees, no topiary, but I do have these cool

combs by which to remember the whole thing!

Looks like Garden Girl has jumped right

into the Halloween decorating, doesn't it?

I'm going to have to have a talk with her.

It is still officially summer for one more week!

Bees At The Zoo

Bees have taken over my ivy topiary!

I put it outside for the summer and now it's a hub for

busy bees going in and out all day long.

Reminds me of sitting at an airport watching the

jets coming and going! ha.  

I've made this topiary years and years ago...kind of sad to

let it go, but it's not like I can bring it inside when it gets

cold this fall!  I wonder if the roots are sitting in honey. 

When I water the ivy, I have to dump it and run. haha.

Random Thoughts

1. It's cold, grey and rainy today.  Cold as in barely 60 degrees compared to almost 90 degrees from a week ago!  I have a scratchy throat and head cold, so it's a good day to do mindless things on the computer and sip hot tea.  If you've been one of the 'lucky' ones to chat with me today, excuse any weird humor, typos or long pauses as that's just what lethargic sick people do.  haha...
2. I find politics fascinating. Anyone else watching the first GOP debate tonight?  No matter what party you belong to, it should be incredibly entertaining.
3. We decided to freshen up our living room.  Renovating the kitchen, dining and family rooms last year just accentuated the tiredness of it, so we bounced ideas back and forth all weekend, looked at a lot of ideas online and ordered a new couch, which will be delivered next week.  Last night while we had some extra man power here we rearranged furniture and even moved some out to the curb with the trash.  Someone usually comes by before the trash collectors to take usable items and yes, it was all gone when I looked out this morning.
4. Do you know what a Stag Horned Beetle is?  One was on our front porch yesterday.  I thought it would take my foot off and Slate insisted on sniffing it, to which I keep telling him that he was going to loose his nose! haha.  I had to look it up online.  Scary looking, isn't it?  I wonder what they eat.  Noses? Toes?  We weren't going to take any chances. ha.
5. And my favorite quote of the week...  "Forgiveness liberates the soul.  It removes fear.  That is why it is such a powerful weapon." Nelson Mandela.  I was impressed again yesterday in talking with someone that won't forgive.  She's full of bitterness and anger and it's destroying her life. Forgiving doesn't mean the offense didn't happen.  And it doesn't mean that it was ok. But you aren't going to let the past control you. Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself.  It sets you free.

I Spy

I spy, with my eye

a big bug, looking green and smug.

Or an alien invasion, at my plantation!

He turned and posed, and liked me I suppose!

Friend or foe, he watches where ever I go!

I saw this rather large Praying Mantis yesterday.

I invited him to stay at the zoo...but warned him about the cats, too!

Random Tuesday

Saw this out the window where my desk is in the kitchen this morning. :)

This was at the other kitchen window. 

 Look at that tiny spider that caught the big junebug in it's web!

It's like David and Goliath! 

That spider won't need to catch food for the rest of it's life!  Eww!

I made more cookies for my wedding favor order.

Here are some discs of cookie dough waiting to chill in the refrigerator.

I now have 21 dozen cookies in the freezer!

Just 4 more dozen to go!  Then next week I will decorate them.

We had near perfect weather today!

75 degrees.  Low humidity.

Blue sky with puffy animal clouds.

Birds singing in the windows.

Lovely.
