Ice cream is my favorite summertime dessert, so it was really fun
to be able to sketch a yummy banana split in a brown transferware
bowl for my Creative Tuesday entry! My favorite part of eating
ice cream is the hot fudge! If you need a good recipe for hot fudge

Did you know?
-
July is National Ice Cream Month!
-
The US produces the most ice cream in the world.
-
Ice cream became available to the general public in France in 1660.
-
Ice cream was introduced to the US in the 1700's but mostly enjoyed by those of status and wealth.
-
And, vanilla still remains the most popular flavor of ice cream!
Life is like an ice-cream cone, you have to lick it one day at a time.

What's your favorite flavor?
Personally, I like them all!
But I usually choose something with chocolate and caramel in it.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Laurie! I had to get my bird in there somewhere, you know! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite flavor is pistachio... but you knew that already.
ReplyDeleteSilver ~ now that you mention that, it makes perfect sense! :)
ReplyDeleteRocky Road almost always wins as my favorite And is in the freezer right now. But I have also discovered Dreyer's Spumoni in their Fun Flavors line which has Pistachio, another favorite. And Bubble Gum, Chocolate Chip, Mint Cocolate Chip, Cookie Dough....……
ReplyDeleteOh so many to like. And adding hot fudge sauce, yummy.
God bless
Love Ice Cream. My fav is Cornish flavour. Not sure whether you can get it but it's like a creamy richer vanilla (more yellowy). Interesting facts about Ice Cream.
ReplyDeletevery nice batsy...love fresh fruit with ice cream...and the bird delivering it is a very nice touch...
ReplyDeleteEddie ~ we call that French Vanilla. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat added touch with the cherry
ReplyDeleteGuess the bird didn't want to eat that berry
But ice cream makes my stomach squirm
Like I had to eat a worm
Anything that you can't chew stays out of my yap
As I just can't take that lap..haha
Pat ~ maybe you would have wanted a chicken nugget on top?
ReplyDeleteBut all the other readers would have called that a flop!
Dairy makes you wary?
I'll eat your portion, even the cherry!
Hey you'll get no fight from me
ReplyDeleteWhatever ice cream you see
You can keep
The whole big heap
I might pick off the chicken nugget though
Eat it after wiping of any yucky ice cream that did show..haha
Pat ~
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could catch the nugget before it left the bird's mouth!
So, I'm guessing nothing sweet ever touches your tongue and travels south?
Unless pringles count nope not a one
ReplyDeleteEver goes south to try and get some sun
Butter Pecan for me...
ReplyDeletePat ~ you have sun in your belly?
ReplyDeleteWhoa, Nelly!
My favorite flavor is Butter Pecan. Mmmm so good!
ReplyDeleteYour bowl of ice cream is picture perfect.
ReplyDeleteI love it when there is whipped cream and a cherry on top of my ice cream.
Christine ~ thanks! I rarely eat it like that, but it sure is pretty!

Oh Betsy. Today was supposed to be the first day of my new diet and you have to start writing about ice-cream.
ReplyDeleteMMMMM, yummy! The sketch is CHARMING.
ReplyDeleteI love it too. Headed to YS today (Jersey Dairy) to pick up Madeleine's birthday ice cream!
Betsy, it';s so good to see you back at C.T. and what a grand re-entrance too. Love it. that bowl is particualrly amazing. You are the queen of coloured pencils now too, i might add. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd encourage each of your viewers to see this at 100% or to view enlarged as it is a lot sharper then too. You clearly spent a good portion of some afternoon on this, right? All whilst doing piles of laundry no doubt. TY!
Butter pecan btw.
ReplyDeleteOh that looks lovely,you teptress!
ReplyDeleteNot only is vanilla the most popular, but 40% of it is sold during the month of December. Why? Holidays!
ReplyDeleteCali Girl ~ oh, that is so interesting! You know, I'm a warm weather only ice cream girl! I don't even buy it during the cold months. We never have icecream in December...it makes me shiver! ha. I would have never guessed that!
ReplyDeleteI love your sketch, it is absolutely perfect! You are so talented, I'd love to be able to draw. Ice cream is my favourite thing all year round. Turkish Delight is my favourite flavour, there again I like chocolate soft whip too!
ReplyDeletevanilla has to be my day in day out favorite, but i am not adverse to licking most any flavor!
ReplyDeletelove the schulz quote!
i wonder what food is 'in' for august! time for a google search!
Kathleen ~ turkish delight? I've never even heard of that...I'll have to do a google search!
ReplyDeletei love it!!
ReplyDeleteaccording to the portal of all knowledge*:
In the United States, August is National Goat Cheese Month.
(my nickname for wikipedia)
Kim ~ haha...love that. National goat cheese...ok..I'll have to buy some in celebration! Icecream seems so much more appealing, though!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute Betsy, love it! I do not understand why vanilla is the favorite...isn't everyone like me and loves a ton of goodies in their ice cream?! ;D
ReplyDeleteOh this is adorable. You drawings are so crisp and perfect. The content, the color the idea.
ReplyDeleteJust love this one. That little birdie bringing the final touch, the cherry....
I have to say this is one of my favorites of you many, many darling entries.
Thanks, Wanda! You know, I think it's my favorite, too! I'm thinking of framing it for my kitchen. Funny..you love the crispness of mine and I love the dreamy water color of yours! ha.
ReplyDeleteI'm a mint chocolate chip girl :) Stop by my blog to enter my giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, this is really sweet. (not a pun) I love it, second only to the little fall bird with bird house. :)
ReplyDeleteMichelle ~ we always have mint chocolate chip in the freezer! It's my oldest son's fave!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of all that chocolate sauce! And the little birdy with the cherry is the cutest!
ReplyDeleteMy fave flavour is cookies and cream!
Hi Dina~ thanks so much! Cookies and cream is one of my favorites, too!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautifully painted piece, the dish looks so delicate. Love the idea of the bird placing the cherry on top.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you could dig right in. Just love the bowl you put the ice cream in and always find the birds in your drawings so touching! Lovely!!
ReplyDeleteLove the extra facts you've included. My favourite flavour is rum and raisin, but proper vanilla ice cream with fresh fruit goes down a treat anytime
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic sketch! You have so made me crave some ice cream! :-)
ReplyDeleteMiss 376 ~ art2cee2~ you know, I've never tasted rum raisin ice cream! I might just have to do something about that! :)
ReplyDeleteFab drawing and love the detail on the bowl.
ReplyDeletebetsy, this is just terrific. you should compile all of your recipes in a book and illustrate them! good stuff - my fave? chocolate chip or butter pecan! hee!!!!
ReplyDeleteHeather ~ an illustrated recipe book! What a fun idea! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely sketch Betsy...mint choc chip is a favourite with me...
ReplyDeleteBets, I know this because I worked with Edy's Grand brand advtsg for years and their regional rep would fill me in on all kinds of facts. We used them on air for contests & things. I was amazed by the vanilla stat and never forgot it.
ReplyDeleteCali ~ yes, I think that is so interesting! I'm glad you shared it here. Fascinating. And although vanilla is good, it would never occur to me to choose it while other flavors were in front of me. ha.
ReplyDeletewell done
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute. I love that you were able to keep your bird theme going! Great Schulz quote, too.
ReplyDeleteBetsy, you are the best. This is darling.
ReplyDeleteQMM
Awww...Peggy. You're the sweetest!
ReplyDeleteI Love vanilla! i know kinda boring.... not even Vanilla bean but hey I just gotta say its the best
ReplyDelete:)
KayleeBeth
KayleeBeth ~ well, you're in the most popular group, with the vanilla lovers! :)
ReplyDeleteMacDonalds thinks that they are so posh as they now put whipped cream and a cherry on top of their shakes. I am glad they do, but it is fast food. Great picture that you created.
ReplyDeleteLove your ice cream and your ice cream facts :-) My favourite woould have to be a triple ( yes thats right) triple chocolate. For me, the words "too rich" or "too sweet" can never be placed in a sentance that contains the word chocolate
ReplyDeleteJanet ~ I'm with you on that...never enough chocolate and there isn't such a thing as too rich! ha.
ReplyDeleteMrs. U ~ yes, they can carry rabies! They are being careful and even have a gun, too, if they must use it.
ReplyDeleteOK...I'll come see your hair commercial today! :)
Mrs. U ~ the mom cat here jumped on the mom raccoon's back once and chased her from the yard. She doesn't quiver, but the kittens used to when they were smaller!
ReplyDeleteChristine ~ oh, that's bad! Well, the guys have instructions to shoot if at all threatened.
ReplyDeletetony ~ yep...shipped them off for your birthday! ha.
ReplyDeleteMagpie ~ oh, that poor thing probably just wanted out of that cage and to be free!
ReplyDeleteI knew this one was yours when I saw Mr Toast's collage! Nice work.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christine. Saw your comment on Mmm's blog. We do develop our own styles, don't we! I do the same thing when I look at our group's drawings and can tell whose is whose! :)
ReplyDeleteThe best French vanilla with chunks of Valhrona white chocolate & Aussie macadamias folded through-yum yum!!
ReplyDeleteMillie x
Millie ~ that sounds like the best icecream ever! EVER! I don't know if I can find that here, but I'm going to try! mmmmm!
