Raccoon Family

So you may remember me posting about a raccoon that was eating our bird seed over the winter. Well, the problem has escalated in that she has since been bringing her husband and 4 children up on the back porch every night! They are mean! They fight each other and terrorize the kittens! They eat the kitten chow, spill the water, and trash the back porch. The dad is especially mean...growling and biting his own kids and it is very disturbing! I'd had enough so Taylor and his friend Daniel have been trapping and relocating them for me! Three out of six are now gone!
On a lighter note, this is my favorite current commercial! Not just because of the raccoon, but because I would probably do something just like this without my contacts in!
ha ha ha!

  1. Sorry they've gotten to be such a nuisance. Hope you get rid of all six of them soon!

  2. Raccoons can be deceptively cute, but they sure can be mean!

  3. I can relate to that commercial, too!

  4. Mari ~ the babies are adorable! But that dad is scary! I didn't mind until it became a violent situation every night. ugh.

  5. kathy ~ you, too? I can just see me doing this. I'd get the dad raccoon for sure! lol!

  6. They are mean! Glad you are getting rid of them. I have to admit that commercial cracks me up.

  7. And Brian ~ I'm trapping these and sending them to Cole and Logan. No, really...you don't have to thank me! ha.

  8. I had no idea they were so mean. They look so cute. Poor kitties. So brave of Taylor and his friend to relocate them...I wouldn't want to be the one opening the cage to release them. Loved the commercial....and can totally relate!

  9. haha and then the husband walks in and freaks out! coons are cute...but def a pest...glad they are trapping and releasing...

  10. That commercial cracks me up every time I see it! And to think you have it here to go along with your raccoon fiasco going on! Too cute! Thinking of you as you think of Taylor...=)

  11. We have never had raccoons, but I have had similar problems with possums when I used to leave some kitty food outside! At least raccoons are cute! Possums, not so much! lol I love that commercial, too! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie

  12. You have quite the zoo going on there don't you? Would you like me to send our skunks your way, I think they eat cat food too! And I love that commercial.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Debbie ~ i do agree with you there...raccoons are cuter than possoms! lol....

  14. Wow they exploded from one to six
    All doing dirty little tricks
    They may look cute
But are defintely quite the pain to boot
    I could sent Orlin down
He'd chase them to another town
The one he saw he wanted to eat
    Might make a tasty treat..lol

  15. Oh, Anita! We don't need skunks! We have a huge one that roams the neighborhood and every once in a while we can smell that she's sprayed something! Your post on your dog getting sprayed was so cute, btw. :)

and yes...zoo! before we saw the dad raccoon, I was saying...

    my five men
    my five cats
    my five raccoons!

    lol....

  16. They really get very competitive for food. I am surprise the dad is still around as our raccoon raises her babies by herself. I would take cats over the coons for sure.

  17. Pat ~ it's been kind of fun to watch the kittens! Mustache and Whiskers definitely want to attack! But that dad raccoon is 30 pounds bigger than them! In fact, I think he's too wide for the trap!...and too smart!

Strat! forgot to rhyme...lol...no, not redoing this.

    ReplyDelete
  18. LD ~ we started removing all the cat food and water at dusk just before they come, hoping that they would give up if there was nothing to eat but that hasn't deterred them a bit! They just trash the porch looking for something! ha.

  19. hahaha stealing my words and not even in rhyme
    Such a crime
Maybe all five kittens will team up
And get the dad raccoon for eating out of their cup
Should get a video of the fight
That make a great post one night

    ReplyDelete
  20. Pat ~ yea, don't pop a pill...oh wait..you stole that line.
    Guess we're even, how sublime!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Pat ~ Strat is a good word for rhyming
There's no end to it's chiming
there's even your name that works
    when you come to lurk!

  22. Yikes!! Raccoons can be mean. Be careful...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mean and nasty, yes they are!
So mean, that twice now our dogs have been hospitalized.

Can I borrow Taylor and his friends?

(By the way,I agree that commercial is a hoot!)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I see you caught that
I think it was intentional by Pat..lol

  25. As near as I can tell we have no raccoons around here, just possums that are bigger than some of the dogs. The pit bull chases them out of the yard, but the chipoo is too little and just shakes. They scare the dickens out of our cats too. The cats stay far away. The possums hiss and their mouths get bigger than a man's fist.

It is funny you posted that Sears optical commercial because I was thinking about doing the one about the hair. It took me a long time to figure that one out, and I have my glasses on. I too must be blind as a bat. LOL

    God bless.

PS...Tell the boys to wear thick leather gloves because I am not sure if coons carry rabies. We trapped one of the possums once and hubby took it to animal control. He said the lady there just reached right into the cage and grabbed it by the tail and held it up in the air showing it off. Scared the crap out of him, he was not prepared for her to do that. Said she was crazy, but she said they catch them all the time. I'm with the "She's crazy" thought.

  26. I posted it. Well I figured I better post it while I was thinking about it.

And I added a banned commercial too. Viewer discretion is advised. But it is funny, or I am getting senile.

    God bless.

  27. from one to a family... that must be a hell of a job to get rid of them.
Though they look cute... but as saying goes.. Don't go on looks, they can be deceptive :)

  28. Those raccoons are FEISTY creatures Betsy! I see them disappear into your sewer opening in front of your house! They could really hurt the kittens too!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jill ~ yes, they live in that sewer! Ugh! The Mister said 2 additional adult raccoons were there last night! So we got rid of 3 but gained 2.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I hope they haven't been relocated to Yorkshire,England!

    ReplyDelete
  31. When I was in Jr. High I had a friend who had a raccoon for a pet. That was a mean pet! Glad they'll soon be on their way.

    ReplyDelete
  32. oh be careful! especially if they are out in the daytime. Good luck with getting the rest re-located.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Trapping and relocating is the best possible solution. It gives them a chance to find sources of food and shelter before cold weather sets in again and dooms them to starvation.

    ReplyDelete
  34. ha.well, at least it wasn't a skunk. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  35. I laugh each time I see this commercial, it's so do-able :)
Raccoon's are so sweet looking, especially the babies, but do be careful as they can carry Rabies, and NOT show signs of it.
I think you've done the right thing in re-homing them, sometimes they come back if it's not far enough away.

  36. Jo ~ They are going about 2 miles away. I hope that's far enough! ha.

  37. That advert cracked me up! I can totally relate. I'm forever peering at the shampoo and conditioner in the shower, trying to work out which is which, without my specs on!

  39. that Sears Optical commercial is one of the funniest, ever. I loved it the first time I saw it...and I still love it.

  40. Marlene ~ me, too! ...it just never gets old! lol! Click on Mrs. U's comment to go to her blog and see a couple more different ones. :)

  41. And I thought I had problems with Wood Pigeons which will not go away!! Hope you can get rid of all 6 soon but please remember to wear your contacts LOL

    ReplyDelete
  42. raccoons are cute but they are dangerous - they make messes and can spread rabies.
    be careful!

    ReplyDelete
  43. oH YES, OH YES, I can relate...we have the same thing here! They take a bath in the pond and use the pump fountain sprayer thing as a drinking fountain and they know how to unscrew it and take the filter out. It is the whole pump apart every nite, eat all the bird seed and cat food and fight with each other. Charleston tag teams with Low n'Slow the possum and an albino skunk. Charleston sits on the fence and drops the seeds and Low n'Slow and Albe eat what he drops...never ends and then there is Lil'Buddy in the house running amuck! I think I need to borrow a kitty! We live in town too! All this goes on every nite! And yes, my friends who have seen that commercial say that would be me! ha

  44. Kim ~ oh, that is awful! Shall I send Taylor and Daniel over when ours are gone? :)

  45. This menagerie inside and out is wearing me out!
