Hi Betsy - I remember seeing them in the 50s ... but never since. They are amazing little things - and to think they were used to light up maps by wartime soldiers.
Yes British fireflies ... they must still be around ... but in quieter areas. So lovely to see this - Cheers Hilary
we did the same thing but ours wasn't that beautiful jar,, ours was probably an old mustard jar lol,, thanks for this betsy!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun no matter what you put them in, isn't it? :)
DeleteI can't get the video to play, but I can imagine it. We used to do the same thing. Good memories!
ReplyDeletePS - how is the bathroom doing?
The bathroom is great. Punch list still to be done. Contrators are awol. lol.
DeleteI got it to play! I love that jar!
ReplyDeleteI remember having DOZENS of fireflies each night. Now there are only a couple flying around when I go outside. I wonder wihat's changed?
ReplyDeleteI've noticed there are more out in the country than in the neighborhoods.
DeleteWe don't even have them here
ReplyDeleteHad to settle for seeing them on TV I fear
Is it too cold for them there?
DeleteMaybe we should give them long underwear. lol.
My brothers and I could keep ourselves entertained doing this for hours when we were kids. :)
ReplyDeleteWe would, too...that and tag and running around til way after dark. Fun memories!
DeleteWell, I must have lived a sheltered life. I have never seen one 'til now. Remarkable and how kind of you to release it. :)
ReplyDeleteNo British fireflies? Well, that is just amazing! They are magical.
DeleteAw. Do you know, I don't think I've ever seen one either. Perhaps they're less common here - or maybe I just don't get out enough, haha.
