Kitchen Reno Day Fourteen

and a little randomness....

  1. Kris got the flooring through the kitchen!  Just a little more to do in the family room and into the closets.  Can't wait to see it with baseboards!
  2. Our counter tops don't get installed until the 31st.  Geesh!  The things waiting on the counter top are the sink, faucet, cupboard side panels, and back splash.  I guess we'll be running well into November before we're finished!
  3. I was checking out one of my favorite interior design blogs today and Emily said that Benjamin Moore Paint's Color of the Year for 2015 is Guilford Green.  Well, it's the exact color I just painted our family room.  ha.  I guess we're 'in' and didn't even know it.  I always say I was painting rooms grey a couple of years before it caught on, too. :)  Check it out here.  It's the new neutral.
  4. Tomorrow is the triplet's birthday.  21!  My, oh my.  We aren't really celebrating until next Wednesday since Taylor and Lauren are out of town this weekend.  But I sure will do some reminiscing tomorrow.  Maybe I'll dig out a baby picture or two to post.
  5. The Mister works with hospital administration for our two local hospitals.  He's had two full days of Ebola meetings and briefings.  It didn't seem so close when it was in Texas, but when one health care provider who treated the patient who died flew to Ohio and then came down with it, it puts it all in perspective.
  6. We saw the sun today for most of the day!  Lovely.  But dark clouds rolled back in by dinner time.
  7. Speaking of dinner, we had breakfast for dinner.  Scrambled eggs, bacon, fried potatoes and onions and toast made with homemade bread.  Comfort food.  Yum.
  8. The Mister and I are going to do some work in our new rooms over the weekend....hanging pictures, etc.  Can't really totally move in without the baseboards in place, but we'll do what we can.  My oven isn't completely installed yet, either, and I can't wait to have that done so I can grill...which is how we usually eat our meat!
Alright, enough rambling from me.
What have you been up to?

  5. It's looking so good!
I like the new color, it goes well with lots of other colors.
    Happy Birthday to the boys!
Lots of talk of Ebola here too, coming from the corporate office. (Even in the nursing home!)
Lots of clouds here with peeks of sunshine. I was out wandering a friends property, taking pictures of the beautiful colors and enjoying every peek of sun I saw.

    1. I like it, too...obviously. I didn't know it was going to be so popular. I chose it to blend well with the kitchen but go with an old ocean picture I got. It all worked out!

I thought about you and the Ebola stuff....every health care worker in the country is getting prepped...or at least I hope they are!

  6. Love the kitchen floor! You are right on trend.
I spent my afternoon in the ER...speaking of hospitals. Turns out the shingles lead to nerve damage that caused me to get Bells Palsy. The right side of my face is paralyzed. Ugh! Will take a while to get back to normal.
Happy early birthday to the boys! Wow...21!!!

    1. You poor thing! I'm so sorry! I have a girl friend that came down with Bells Palsy a few years ago! It does get better, but she did feel so strange for a while! Hugs!

    2. Good luck with the Bell's Palsy Cat. I had it some years back. Goodness! I just checked it was 1 September 2001 and I know this because England beat Germany 5 - 1 (soccer) the evening it started (and that's an easy date to check). it was horrible while it lasted. I had to sticky tape one of my eyes shut at night. But it went away quite quickly and I was just the same as ever. You take care of yourself.

  7. You're in quite the random mood today :-)

Isn't it amazing how long house renovations take? It's been a month and our bathroom still isn't completely put together. Looking forward to seeing your pictures of the triplets.

  9. 21! Wow - does not seem possible. Happy Birthday, Boys!
I see the parakeets have moved in for a visit to check out the reno :-) and I see Marmalade sneaking a peek... love that orange.
We thought there were two Ebola incidents in Canada but it is not the case. Very scary. I am trying not to think about it and yet something like this is hard to dismiss. I hope all our health care workers are at the ready.
Don't you just love brekkie for dinner? The best.

    1. Yep...scary stuff. It sure hasn't been handled well here so far...so frustrating and not something to take lightly!

I think breakfast for dinner tastes better than it does in the morning! Ha. Maybe that's because I'm really not a breakfast person....just give me coffee!

  10. Great contrast between the floors, cabinets and the cat-tail of course. :D So cute. With luck by Ts-giving it will all be done and dusted and you can enjoy the reno in all its beauty.

The Ebola scare is actually terrifying. You always think these things happen somewhere else until it doesn't. I hope and pray they get smarter in dealing with this horrible disease. So far they haven't. Just think of the healthcare worker on the cruise ship and just how many people she has come in contact with. Sad if she has Ebola how many of those people could get sick and infect the people they come in contact with. The smart thing to me would have been when they realized that the man in Dallas had Ebola they would have shut down the hospital and not allowed anyone to leave. Not easy to do but would have been a smart move. At least it would have been contained. Now they are scrambling to shut the barn door and the horse is already out.

Happy Blessed Birthday to the boys! Happy Birthday to You and You and You. :)

    1. It sure hasn't been handled well at all....horrible! But that seems to be par for the course with everything...pick a topic...ISIS, health care....you name it. Don't get me started. Lol.... And maybe that golf reference was appropriate, all things considered. Hahaha....

That cat tail just glows, doesn't it? He's snuggled up to me in bed right now. :)

  11. It looks absolutely 'spiffing' as some posh Brits might say.
Love the flooring . . . in fact love everything and looking forward to seeing it finished.
Will you be moving your desk back in soon? I suppose you may want to make sure all the dust making activities are over.

    Happy birthday to the boys . . . 21 is quite a landmark . . .
Just had my 21st again (and again and again) lol
    Enjoy your picture hanging . . . . :)

    1. It's coming along a treat! Haha. That is SO not American english...my spell check tried to change treat to great. Ha.

I can't move my desk back in until the baseboards are back up. :(. I do miss it...my favorite spot in the house! I'm wondering if we might have to wait until the stone counters are installed since the end will be so close. Aw...that makes me kinda sad!

    2. Yes . . .I certainly associate that little corner in the bay windows with you . . . it looks so you!! . . . and you have your favorite view there and in a way I treasure it because I got to know you when you were sitting there . . . :)

    3. Gosh, what a sweet thing to say!

The mister asked if maybe I didn't want my old desk back there since it might seem crowded and its old and ugly. Haha...but I can't give that up. I just need to paint the drawers and have a new top made. Who could give up sitting in front of those windows? It's too much a part of me to not be there.

  12. And yes it is alarming about the Ebola situation . . . . . such a nasty thing and justifiable concerns . . . :)

  13. You couldn't give up sitting in that lovely window could you? LOVE your beautiful lighted cabinets with the jugs and things in.
I'm in the middle of planning a visit to the Grand Canyon and possibly Bryce with my lovely friend from Buffalo. I wonder how the world will be next spring? Will we still be jetting across the world so carelessly as we have been recently? The son of the British nurse who came down with Ebola was treated in our local hospital by the son of some friends of mine. Scarey times.

    1. No, I really must have my desk there!

Sounds like you have a wonderful trip planned! How exciting! I do hope by the time you travel that things have calmed down and you can relax and get here and back without a lot of worry and even more screening and stress!

  14. Hi Betsy - Guilford Green sounds great and clever you to be thinking so forward! Good luck with all the odds and ends - at least somethings will be done ... Ebola is 'interesting' to put it mildly - I imagine being involved will give everything another perspective from your point of view. Our nurse who got it, flew home, recovered and is now on his way back out again - that's dedication and commitment. I see Georgina above commented on him too: small world.

Congratulations to you all and the boys on 21 years ... and what a journey - but you are coping so well with them .. and in that direction Happy Birthday on Wednesday - it'll be lovely to see Lauren and Taylor .. cheers Hilary

  15. Completely forgot to say that the Pantone colour for 2014 http://www.pantone.co.uk/pages/index.aspx?pg=21129 "Radiant Orchid:
which everybody just HATED is pretty much what we painted my bathroom 5 years ago! It looks awful on the website and great in my bathroom with my dark purple bath and faux lapis lazuli floor. Everyone here is still painting their houses cream or magnolia or white or string.
    Guilford green looks fab.

Happy Birthday to your triplets. 21 years. Time goes so quickly.
I do love that Gulliford green too.
What am I doing? Well, for one , I'm blowing my nose from crazy allergies. Doing some wash and wishing I was on vacation.
Last night my hubby and I served dinner to about 100 people for our church's Celebrate Recovery meeting.
We love helping out at this vital ministry about Hurts, Habits and Hangups.
And so the weeks roll on.
