It was fun to watch the plywood get covered up today!
Kris got about 2/3rds of the way finished, I'm guessing.
This is a laminate with the padding already attached to the back.
I like the way it already looks worn and old.
Much better than dark blue carpet, don't you think?
I can't wait to walk barefoot in the house again!
I'm wondering if we'll want a rug in the family room.
We've never lived without carpeting before and I wonder
if it will feel cold and less cozy. Time will tell! Any thoughts?
♥
LOVE the floors betsy...those are so cool...we want to put in hard wood or floating floors
ReplyDeleteAfter raising boys on carpet, it's usually time for it to go! haha. Hope you get to do it some day! :)
DeleteI love it! I think the color of the laminate looks warm and cozy. But you could always put a rug down to add a spark of color if you want a change. But the laminate is so much easier to keep clean. Rugs tend to hold dust no matter how much you vacuum.
ReplyDeleteYes, right now I'm just loving how fresh and clean it looks!
DeleteYeah, I'd prefer this to carpet. :)
ReplyDeleteBut you'd choose black, right? ha.
DeleteHmm. I like the sound of that...
DeleteIt looks great! I love the color and the old look!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving it, too...such a nice change!
DeleteI am lusting over your new floor! How wide are the planks? I suspect you may want an area rug during the winter in the family room. Something comfy and cozy .. you can remove in the summer for a brand new look!
ReplyDeleteThey are 5 inches. I like your rug idea...might have to think about that. Right now everything is echoing! ha. Maybe furniture and pictures on the walls will take care of that.
DeleteLooks way better than carpet and less germy to
ReplyDeleteBut that one thing to remember at your zoo
Hardwood has no cushioning for your feet
So it can be bad for your back which isn't neat
Well, I was in the kitchen most days on ceramic tile
Deleteso my body was used to hard surfaces so vile.
I totally agree on the germ free...
this just seems like a win/win for me. ha.
No germs is the best
DeletePlus easy clean up as it passes the mess test
its lovely!!!! I like an area rug, it seems for me to tie things together and I hate having cold feet where I sit, lol, our house had woods floors and I had area rugs in each room, except the kitchen, I loved them for their pop of color, they are dust collectors and hair collectors though, I was always vacuuming back then, this apartment has laminate floors, I have an area rug here as well, for me it just seems cold without even a small rug, just my opinion, your floors look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWe did get a rug for under the dining room table. Something to think about, for sure!
DeleteIt looks absolutely beautiful Betsy . . . .
ReplyDeleteA rug may be ok provided it does not slip.
I laid a floor like that with Jim in Selina and Mat't's home. We did the kitchen and hallway and that was 4 years ago. It is still as good as new. . . . :)
I guess the furniture on it would prevent it from slipping. And good to know about Selina's house....this has a 25 year warranty, so it might outlive us! haha....
DeleteOoooh, nice! I think I might try leaving it with a rug for a little while at least, to see if you like it that way.
ReplyDeleteI kind of hope I don't need a rug. There's something fresh and streamlined about the floor just as it is!
DeleteJust love your wood floors. That is one of the things I like best about our apartment. Wood floors everywhere except the bedrooms. So fun to see the day to day progress.
ReplyDeleteDo you use a swiffer, dust mop or what? I have a swiffer wet jet....and then iBot, of course. ..maybe he'll do the work for me. ha.
DeleteI use a dry swifter a couple times a week, and a wet swifter on the weekends. I do the wet one in the kitchen more often..spills (haha) I don't have the wet jet. Just the swifters you attached to the mop. Sounds like you have a good plan.
Deletebtw, I have a lot less sq. ft. to do than you.
DeleteWell, you have a cute little tree nest. I have a boys dormitory. haha.
DeleteLook beautiful Betsy! and yes maybe a rug in family room will look warm and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnd how is your spring? Is it getting warm there?
DeleteYes today is like spring, all blossom, the roses beautiful.and is warm butbnot so much.
DeleteJust perfect.
I dont like hot time:)
I will put some pics jn my sidebar.
Beautiful floors! I agree - a friend of mine was having back problems and now that she has area rugs it is much better. It can also be quite slippery if you are used to sock feet in the winter. Plus they provide colour and warmth. I tend to think that straight hardwood looks a little cold. You can always switch them out in the summer but I think with our cold winters you may want the warmth... and Nugget and the kitties too!
ReplyDeleteYes, that is true..I'm going to have to be careful not to slip and fall in my socks!
DeleteHave to say though... there is something so fresh and streamlined about this look. And the colour is gorgeous. My neighbour's put more of a mahogany colour in and another friend has almost black - such a selection to choose from that I don't know how one chooses! I love it all!
DeleteYes, I know what you mean! I'm enjoying that fresh, uncluttered look. I do have the tendency to do too much. I really tried to not over crowd my lit cabinets...haha...and I like the look when I didn't do that. So against my nature! lol....
DeleteI am a rug gal.....I would feel chilly I think....but I love the clean flow of all one flooring....
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your kitchen....
Still gloomy here...about 1 1/2 hours of sun though....which was nice!
We got out for a nice walk with Miss V....
Enjoy your evening...
Cheers!
Linda :o)
If we feel cold or the room still echoes, we'll have to get a rug!
DeleteDid you consider beefing up the baseboards and door trim?
DeleteI did that in my foyer...looks great!
You can even just add higher trim on the baseboards...looks very posh!
No, we didn't consider that. I think I'd want the trim to match all over the house...and changing it all out does not sound fun at the moment! ha. We did give it all a fresh coat of paint, though.
DeleteYou must be very happy to have new flooring. EnJoy it! It looks good.
ReplyDeleteAnita, you have NO idea how happy I am. haha...it was long overdue.
Deleteps. I love the new header! I haven't blogged in awhile, so I've missed stopping by and just now seeing it.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that cute? It's been there a while, though....almost changed it yesterday! haha.
DeleteI see that you changed it. It makes me want some tomato soup. :) All of your headers are fun to see!
DeleteI enjoyed reading your comment on my post. It made me laugh! EnJoy your weekend/family.
Your post was hilarious...thanks for the smiles. :)
DeleteI LOVE the laminate you picked!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous- what a difference! We have hardwoods in our house and rugs are a must for us- they make things cozy and more welcoming feeling- AND they can be rolled up, aired out and changed unlike carpet. :)
yes, we shampooed this carpet until it just didn't matter anymore. ha.
DeleteHi Betsy .. with the boys the laminate makes a great deal of sense - but I suspect a rug will be order at some stage ... it really is moving on apace .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteyes, it's moving right along...looking good!
DeleteComing along a treat! I think a rug would be good - you'll need to get something to stop it slipping. We use a kind of light weight rubbery mesh and it works very well.
ReplyDeleteYou Brits all say that phrase and I just love it...we say nothing like that here. haha. Yes, a treat! yay! We have those mesh things for rugs...or some rugs have a coating on the backside. I might have to look for an old beautiful rug at the auctions!
DeleteThings are looking so nice! Area/accent rugs...I removed both of ours from the Living and the Dining Room, and the rooms look less cluttered and so much bigger! Never have a problem with cold floors in the winter, but then we do have a basement. I'd say wait and just enjoy your new flooring for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI am loving that less cluttered look!
DeleteThe floor looks beautiful, Betsy! I'm sure you will like the change from rugs to laminate. We added an area rug in the living room. The lit cabinets..such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteHow are your boys liking the change?
The boys are doing just great....little troopers they are! It would be so much of a different story if their personal stuff or routines were affected, but we're worked to keep them as normal as possible. They are attentive and notice the changes, but don't seem upset or even that appreciate of them. haha. I'm glad they've been so great about it all!
DeleteWe have had cats, dogs and an only child who painted, the carpet is dead, we want to remove it but the only alternatives don't look promising..do you know how blessed you are to do this remodel??? I work for homeless people, hungry people and jobless people they would give their right arms and legs to have a tiny place to call a home, I read your blog and think you must be a gajillionaire to afford it, we got a new fridge, sink, faucet, above the counter kitchenaid oven, a toaster oven all brand new we felt like a gajillionaire, we only waited 36 years to do it..We go steady and slow and pay cash now we are so old we get usually a 20 percent discount and free removal of the old stuff and installation is a bargain, how blessed you truly are..enjoy enjoy and enjoy some more!
ReplyDeleteHi Miss A. I think you left this exact same comment on a post of mine another time we did something new to our home. Yes, of course we know how fortunate we are and are very grateful. The Mister and I work hard for our money and we are paying cash....we saved a long time to be able to do this and waited until we paid our son's way through college. We aren't changing things out merely because it's out of style or we are bored with it. We had damaged and worn out floors, etc that were becoming a safety issue. 26 years, 6 people, 20 cats (not all at once) parakeets and a rabbit have all made their way through here. ha. Thanks for stopping by....
DeleteI am firmly in the rug camp - the winters here in Minnesota get really cold and the cold floor on my feet in the morning as I walk across the kitchen is a bit too harsh for me. I also like that I can change the rug anytime so now I am considering rugs for different seasons to match my table cloth (Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, St patricks Day etc)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great - enjoy it.
Our floors get cold here, too, in Ohio...and we're on a crawl space, so I think that makes it a little worse. But we always have socks and slippers on, so that helps a lot. I like your holiday rug idea! How fun!
DeleteI think it looks fabulous! I would definitely want to walk on it barefoot. Cool and smooth under the feet. Yes.
ReplyDelete:0)
Yes, I think it will feel fabulous!
DeleteWow! Love the floors! Great color choice, too. Will be so much easier to keep clean...Always my favorite thing. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for a rug. Hardwoods/tile here and in the winter *not as cold as yours* the floors are like ice even with a full heated basement underneath them.
I know...so much easier to keep clean! It will a whole different experience here....haha...
