Laundry Room Redo

This is the only 'before' photo I have! Here is the laundry room in green paint and pink floral border. The shelf hung high to the ceiling was used for hangers and clothes from the dryer. Now it's grey, a little more organized, and much more pleasant to use!

please click on photos to enlarge

  1. My laundry room is actually a hallway. Things like that happen when you do renovations and build on additions. :) We have a long "L" shaped hallway in the house. I'm standing at the corner of the L, just in front of the master suite. The hallway in front of me extends the length of the ceramic tile and ends at the triplet's bedroom (which used to be a two-car garage!)
  2. I had some custom-made wood shelves in the attic that The Mister installed above the washer and dryer for me.
  3. I'm loving the grey color! Across from the washer and dryer I hung a memo board and cork board. To see how I made them, click HERE. Halfway down the hallway is a door opening that used to lead to the garage.
  4. The shelves got a fresh coat of paint, too.
  5. There aren't any windows, but the triplet's room has a very large window that lets light come down the hallway.

  1. Standing at the second doorway, halfway down the hall.
  2. This space is what started the redo to begin with. We had an upright freezer here. I decided to move it to my workroom so I could get one of these rolling laundry sorters.
  3. Looking at the wall across from the hamper.
  4. Since my laundry sorter came with a hanging bar, that freed up the space above the washer and dryer for the shelves!
  5. Standing at the door to the boys' room and looking back. Beside the laundry sorter is a 2nd pantry, which comes in handy for storing extra canned and paper goods. It also holds seasonal things like the pressure canner, punch bowl, light bulbs and the carpet steamer. Across the hall from the pantry is my workroom for my gift basket business and crafty stuff.

  1. I'm really enjoying my display of collectibles. Here's my vintage Cream of Wheat advertisement. It's nautical, too!
  2. This framed photo I picked up in the auction trash. It was in the grass in the freezing rain. I picked it up thinking I could use the frame, but when I got it home and took a closer look, I fell in love with the four kids, balancing on a floating log in the water. They are poised to dive in! So cute! Can't believe nobody in the family wanted it! I decided to clean it up and keep it with my nautical stuff. Besides a little water damage on the mat, it was in good condition.
  3. The big crock with the spigot is holding my liquid Era. And it looks better than the big red plastic jug, too. :)
  4. I painted the cherry branches on the bird house years ago. It's held a few nests while hanging on the front porch, but was beginning to show a lot of wear, so I brought it inside. It's new home is with the wicker lidded jar holding some wooden clothespins.
  5. The old metal ice bucket is holding baking soda and a scoop. I'll add a scoop to a load of Taylor's basketball and workout clothes. :)
  6. A collection of brown bottles. Love the one with the fish on it.
  7. My favorite big yellow metal bucket with wooden handle. I think it's been in every room of the house and even in the garden at some point in time. :)
  8. The shelf above the laundry sorter holds my vintage picnic basket, wooden ammunition box and some extra large blue Ball jars with zinc lids.
  9. The antique washboard with copper board had a broken top. I filled in the broken space with cork and am using it to display my sterling nautical broaches. Click HERE to see how I put it together!

Thanks again to Susan for hosting Metamorphosis Monday. I hadn't participated since last March when I redid the triplet's bedroom! I'll be back with her next Monday to show you what I did with all the doors in the house. That project is still in progress today. In fact, three doors are laying on my kitchen island as I'm typing up this post! They are looking good, though! :)

I've linked up with Metamorphosis Monday!

  10. I thought that Gray, might make the laundry room dark and dreary.
    Far from that!
Clean and crisp is more like it.
Really like the laundry basket area. What a bonus.
    Well done Betsy!

  17. Clattering against you as you walked past with your arms full of laundry. ;) I guess they are sort of 60ish aren't they?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm trying to picture Betsy as a hippie chick, sashaying around wearing love beads and some modified Gypsy outfit...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Rebecca ~ Yep ~ I'd have to sing "Help" and "Hey Jude" and "And I Love Her" while swinging through them! haha.

Thanks, Michelle ~ this was a good project to get done!

  20. I could do that! Barefoot...hoop earrings....

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hmmm, that's a little hard to picture, but I wasn't even born during the 60's. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hey, I like to go barefoot, does that make me a hippie?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Rebecca, you're just a baby, as I've said before, haha!

    ReplyDelete
  25. No, it takes more than bare feet to make a hippie!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well, I was born, but just a baby! I didn't know who the Beatles were then. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think look really beauty betsy, but I find beauty too the colours you have before:)

  72. Hi Betsy .. loved the starry starling, and the frosty outlook and all the other bits and bobs you've organised.

Having four boys - means I guess organisation is the key and here you seem to have made the best of your space with the things you use ready and to hand.

It does look really clean and fresh - enjoy using it this week! Cheers Hilary

  77. Wonderful Betsy! All of the touches are so warm...I think the laundry room should be beautiful too...we spend SOOOOOOO much time there!!!

I recognize those custom shelves. I re-purposed my two sets when we moved to The Glen as well. I ADORE THEM!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Jill ~ that is SO true. At least a third of our lives. lol...
Yes, love my shelves...and the nice man that made them! :)

  79. I love that colour - not quite blue, not quite grey.

    ReplyDelete
  80. It looks so good!! You're clearly very crafty :) I love the color scheme. My bedroom is a very similar steel blue.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Thanks, Jax! Love steel blue, too...that sounds so pretty!

  82. Dear Betsy I posted my recipe that I made for my Mom birthday if you want to see(lol)

  83. i like the collectibles a lot, especially the brown glass bottles. i always like feeling the different textures of glass, or just looking at them. glass is beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thanks, Ed. I've collected old bottles for as long as I can remember! I think it started with that fantasy of a message or treasure map in a bottle when I was young. :) The only thing that would make this better, is if they were in a window sill for the light to shine through them! :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. It looks wonderful, Betsy. I love your collectibles....they look great on your shelves.

The spigot is a really good idea. Gonna have to find me one!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Love that you use the crock to dispense your detergent - may do that for my fabric softener! This is what I love about blogland - finding creative ideas shared by amazing women like you Betsy!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. yeah, i like 'em, sunlight or none.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Very nicely done! I think my favorite part is the liquid detergent dispenser. I love how homey you've made the room feel.

    ReplyDelete
  89. How lovely Betsy! You are one creative and ambitious woman for sure. The work alone is a lot, and then you put together beautiful posts like this to show us everything???? Amazing! I do believe the very first post I saw here was when you redid the boys bedroom. SO glad to know I'm still taking this journey with you. Sweet blessings on your week! XO

    ReplyDelete
  90. So very nice! I'm ready to start a winter renovation project, now, just to decide which one!

    ReplyDelete
  91. I do like the contrast with the gray and white. You really did a great job in making it look more like an art gallery instead of a laundry room.

I too like the soap dispenser and hope you find one for the fabric softener pretty soon. I think one will show up at an auction sooner than later.

    God bless.
