I saw this page in a Martha Stewart magazine and liked the color palette.
Our living room walls need painting and this seemed like a good
combination of colors since the carpet in that room is a
cranberry red and we have a dark purple
over-stuffed chair and an eggplant colored
leather sofa. The only things we're missing is gray
walls with a hint of purple! Sounds like a strange
combination, doesn't it? But I like it and, well Martha
likes it, too! LOL! I picked the darkest paint chip shown.
are paired with dark gold and pine colored walls, shown
below. It's fine and I've liked it a lot. But the paint on
the walls is dirty, chipped and is about 14 years old.
It's time for a change! I love my new gray walls in
the bedroom and thought a purplish variation would
be a nice, fresh change in the living room. And I won't
have to do any other major changes with the furniture.
I can't wait to see a photo of the finished product. I want to change the color in my bedroom to gray too. Wish I could afford to hire someone to do the painting.
ReplyDeleteI like the colour (with the magazine script on) behind the cornucopia. Just a tad warmer. The room looks lovely as is but I know, we all love a fresh change.
ReplyDeleteWish my carpet was cranberry - red wine on coffee table went flying on the weekend with a little boy doing a whirling dervish in his dressing gown - cream carpet!!
Looking forward to the end result!
Your color choice sounds beautiful to me. I trust Martha too. She did not get where she is by making ugly stuff,
ReplyDeleteand that is great you won't have to do the painting your self!
I think it's funny... when you know you like something and see it...then go for it!
ReplyDeleteWay to go.
Hi Betsy!
ReplyDeleteI can certainly relate to your arthritic thumbs...I developed a major problem in my early 50's. My doctor told me it was one of the worst cases he had seen in a person my age. I also have Dupuytren's Contracture in my right hand ... can no longer close that hand in a tight fist.
On a positive note, everything else basically works and that's what's most important!
Can't wait to see your paint job.
And, the fern moved inside .. wow!
Rhonda ~ I like it too, obviously. :) I think I like it because it IS different!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really good and interesting. I would love to see your after pictures. It will give me some good ideas. I have a lot of red/gold in my kitchen family room right now. Also, I love that fern! I can't seem to get mine to grow inside when I bring them in :(
ReplyDeleteI love the colors!! I also love having someone do it for you:-)
ReplyDeletenice. cant wait to see the after pics...and awesome you can have someone do it for you...
ReplyDeleteMartha is all about her grays isn't she? It will be a perfect choice. I look forward the your reveal. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty color Betsy. Can't wait to see the finished room and the plant!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the results.
ReplyDeleteYou need a beautiful stand to hold your Monster Fern--maybe next to the window?
KathyG ~ you're right! I have a fern stand but it is too small for it now that I repotted it! Something by the window would be nice. Who knows..I'll probably rearrange the furniture before I'm all done! ha.
ReplyDelete"He's as big as a piece of furniture!" Sounds like my cat.
ReplyDeleteI'm also redecorating, but room by room as I can (and sometimes can't) afford it. Your house should look wonderful and I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures.
ReplyDeleteI am looking ford to see your new painted living room, good luck. I love the old picture though, looks like taken from a magazine.;)
ReplyDeletexoxo
Good luck with your decorating : the colour choice looks ideal to me.
ReplyDeleteBetsy, good luck with the decorating! I like the new picture of you that you have on the side ... you are still young but you look very very very!!! young on that picture - amazing!). Happy week!
ReplyDeleteAwww...Birdie! You just made my day! But I'm OLD...really! :)
ReplyDeleteZuzana ~ well, thanks...hopefully the new room will look even better! :)
ReplyDelete"But I'm OLD...really!"
ReplyDeleteGee, I hate to argue with the author of any blog I visit, but...
You are NOT!
FUN! SUCH FUN!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the new room with Mr. Fern too.
Beautiful color! I think it will go very well in that room. Good luck painting! Not my favorite thing unless it's a craft project. :-)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Coreen
Mr. Fox ~ well, let's face it. I'm old. You're ancient. :)
ReplyDeleteSilly rabbit. I'm ancient; you're ageless!
ReplyDeleteMr. Fox ~ you're also very sweet. :)
ReplyDeleteSh! You'll ruin my reputation.
ReplyDeleteGreat colors! We have gray in an office at home and love the calm factors of the color! Can't wait to see the results! I laughed about Monster fern too!
ReplyDeleteWell first I love your old look LOL.But Im liking your choices for a newer look as well.My living room is a wine color with a touch of purple. So I have to use alot of light accents to make it do.Im enjoying it I did it myself (first time painting since my husband died, lol)about 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI love your monster fern.Mine is the exact same size.Im not planning on transplanting it yet.I do not like that job.lol.
Happy new week betsy!
So fun to see you joining me in the "shades of gray" society! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished room. Enjoy having the work done for you... how nice!
ReplyDeleteCan;t wait till we see the finish!
ReplyDeleteLoving your choice of colors....Can't wait for the final pictures.
ReplyDeletePerfect colors for the winter months coming, all so warm and ready to hop on that couch and snuggle with a throw and a book!
I can't wait to see the new colors! I have a spider plant I need to repot because its too big to hang too.
ReplyDeleteYour re-decorating inspires me! (Our old paint and carpet of 13 years has to go SOON) Keep showing those pictures! Some day maybe I will ask for decorating advice!
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be beautiful and I can't wait to see it!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been putting my ferns in the garage in the winter and trimming them back in the spring and they do great....does your fern shed alot in the house? That window was a perfect place for it, uh?
that's divine!
ReplyDeleteI haven't stopped by in a while ~ i really like your new blog design and colors! You really have an eye for color. Bet that applies at home as well.
ReplyDeleteBless you, sweet lady. I always enjoy my visits here.
I can't imagine that fern being bigger. It's huge in that picture.
ReplyDeleteAll that furniture being moved around by the boys (or is it just Spencer when he does his train books and needs to spread them out) probably was a little rough on those walls.
I can't wait to see it. I'm so happy for you that you got to have someone do it for you!
That is a gorgeously rich color combo and I do like it very much. Can't wait for project photos when complete.
ReplyDeleteI love your huge fern--used to have one of those too until a move where it got destroyed. Yes, I can totally see those colours working for you altogetehr. Great idea. It's gogin to be calming too. Love it, Betsy.
