Just this week I've noticed those tell tale signs that the warm weather is gone and autumn is here!
- I'm snuggled deeper down in my bed when I wake up. The bedroom feels chilly when I sit up to have my coffee, especially if we left the window cracked open a wee bit.
- It's too cold to putter around the house in my bare feet! I've been digging into my sock drawer! When winter comes, the socks won't be enough and I'll be digging out my slippers!
- I drink the whole pot of coffee hot instead of pouring it over ice half way through the morning.
- I've had my fill of potato salad and zucchini. Comfort foods like mashed potatoes, apple crisp and beef stew are sounding good!
- No more ice in my water! Brrr!
- The after dinner bowl of icecream has been replaced by a mug of hot earl grey.
- I find myself wrapping my hands around my mug to warm them up!
- The windows and doors are open in the afternoon to let in a nice, comfortable breeze.
- No A/C in the Jeep....just the open sunroof to make it comfortable.
- We're using the throws on the back of the couches again.
- Big rolls of hay are laying in the fields.
- The skies seem bluer.
- The butterflies are gone!
- The trees are turning red and orange.
- Banana bread has been replaced by pumpkin.
- Shorts have been replaced by jeans.
- Nugget stopped shedding!
- I'm already feeling the need for hand lotion!
So what about you? Any other signs that the seasons have changed?
Fall is my favorite! Happy October to you!
Love your blog, I've not had a chance to see what changes I have made yet! Loved reading yours!
ReplyDeleteOhooo, I should not be reading blogs, but I am and I admit, I'm having fun! Should be packing or doing something like that!
Nancy
Sleeping with the windows cracked makes it hard to get up in the morning...I love it.
ReplyDeleteMy taste buds want chili and soup..
I think you have got them all down Betsy.I do know its brrrr.. in the mornings LOL.Im like you have to have socks on or fuzzy footies.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to some comfort foods and stew does sound good.I have been having chili but I think maybe this time, some chicken rice soup homemade.
Happy Sunday ahead to you!
I have noticed similar things. It becomes a relief that I have the outside chores done with for a whole season and I can stay in and puttsy in all the little projects. That leaf picture is stunning.
ReplyDeleteNancy ~ aww..you have to balance all that moving work with a little blogging pleasure! :)
ReplyDeleteEverybody's talking chili! I forgot about that one! Yum...with cornbread!
ReplyDeleteLarry ~ I agree...I'd much rather putter around inside than all that yard work!
ReplyDeleteah, we felt it today..we spent the day at the pumpkin patch...corn mazes...hayrides...pumpkin canons...much fun...and chill that only fall knows...
ReplyDelete- The apples are disappearing from the orchards.
ReplyDelete- apple pie is in the oven (The timer is beeping...)
-Mom is back to doing puzzles.
-Mitten are looking cozy.
-The air smells like woodsmoke.
I LOVE fall!
Oh I want to feel what you are feeling, but we are still having very hot weather.
ReplyDeleteI did change the bulletin board at Church today to Fall Colors and placed some pumpkins, leaves and decorative corn husks to the refreshment table.
I found a cute jacket at the Thrift Store with Fall Colors.
I'm really thinking pumpkin bread and pie....
Love your list!!!
BTW ~~Do you drink your coffee black in the morning in bed... Or do you have a secret mini refrigerator in the night stand for half/half?? Just curious! (perhaps nosy) HaHa
ReplyDeleteWanda ~ I heard that California is still triple digits! Ugh!
ReplyDeleteI have sugar and powdered creamer in my night stand drawer. :)
fall is such a lovely time--sweater and socks--books and tea--great post!
ReplyDeleteI brought in the houseplants today (thanks for visiting and leaving the nice comment).
ReplyDeleteWe, too, have the throws on the back of the couch. Hubby has used one, but I haven't needed to yet. However, I DID get the first lap-cat blanket of the season today-he snubs our laps during the warm weather, but likes to stretch out on legs when the weather gets chilly!
Our dogs won't be getting the short hair cuts.
ReplyDeleteI loved your list, me too to everyone of those...and I am layering more for my morning walks! ;D
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post, I enjoyed reading of the changes you are experiencing. Here I am noticing the lengthening of the days, have started wearing 3/4 trousers, the perfume in the gardens, frilly pink blossom and acid green leaves appearing on the formerly winter naked tress.
ReplyDeleteAh Tallulah, our seasons march towards winter in unison. I bought a new cap to protect my head yesterday and when I walk Amy I now walk that little bit faster.
ReplyDeleteAs you head toward the cooler season be head towards the hotter one.
ReplyDeleteWe are shedding our jumpers & jeans for shorts & T's.
And moving away from eating good soul food to salads & grills.
Have a lovely Sunday Betsy!
I really enjoyed this post Betsy, I recognize so many of your details here; if not all. Mainly the warming of my hands around the cup, using my big pink cosy slippers in the mornings and snuggling under blankets when watching TV in the evenings...
ReplyDeletexoxo
Marilyn ~ oh, spring is my next favorite! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteKatherine ~ I know that feeling, too...isn't the changing of the seasons a wonderful thing? Enjoy the warmer weather and yummy grilling!
ReplyDeleteNice photo! Taken with your new camera?!
ReplyDeleteAutumn breezes (cool ones!), open windows, dappled light, cinnamon candles, wearing jeans again... some of my favorite things.
My Saint Bernard stays in bed longer (in the summer she gets too hot and jumps off after 5 minutes), she sheds more then her hair gets thicker and she is more energetic. I love fall!
ReplyDeleteIt still kinda feels like summer in North Carolina! I like summer!
ReplyDeleteFall in full swing up here. My dogs START to shed in Fall. sigh.
ReplyDeleteI need to develop your attitude about fall, because I don't think I can do much to change the fact that it is followed by winter. Our butterflies and hummingbirds are gone too. AND I have to say it was kind of fun to put on a big sweater and have hot cocoa! And this week I am making the pruce cake!
ReplyDeleteAnita ~ sweaters and hot chocolate...very nice! I do hope you like that prune cake! :)
ReplyDeleteBetsy, fall is my favorite as well :-) and yes, the hand lotion I do need it now as well... happy October to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteI'm so envious!! I wish fall would get here already. Still way too hot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my blog, you may just make me a fan of fall after all! I'm more of a spring summer gal! I have also always wanted to understand autism better.
ReplyDeleteSigns of Fall... Went to Starbucks this week and my favorite returned to the menu.... Salted Carmel Hot Cocoa! Mmmm
ReplyDeleteFall is my favorite season also! It is still on the warm side here is So. Calif. but I am looking forward to sipping on hot tea, using my throws on my sofa's, sitting next to the fireplace, and all of the wonderful smells of autumn. :)
ReplyDeleteThe last one got me...within a day or two at the most of the cooler weather, my skin on my hands is cracking at the knuckles. My hubby affectionately, or not, called me dinosaur on the way to church Sunday when I showed him. I was saying that I really needed to start carrying my Neutrogena hand cream with me. Caboose called my hands crispy when he felt them!
ReplyDeleteNo reds adn oragnes here--just yellows but how true on snuggling down in the early mornings. Want to do that more in fact in stead of rushing out the door.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love Earl Grey, can it really replace ice cream? I jsut had a bowl last night. :)
