Because some days you need more than others!
Here's a few tidbits of life that we've experienced
over the last few days...all in the spirit of keeping it real!
- I got my hair cut ~ 6 inches shorter! All 5 men approved! Actually, the triplets didn't even notice. But Harry did gave me a second look as I brushed his teeth tonight. :)
- We had a fast but violent thunder storm. The Mister looked outside in the lightening and hail and noticed we had a gutter stopped up. He had the pleasure of going out in that stuff, getting on a ladder, and unclogging it. Do you think it was Murph?
- Harry used the shower curtain for toilet paper. No, really...he did.
- The refrigerator door was left open about an inch...all night. (my fault!)
- One of the stove burners was left on 'high' ....all night. (Taylor's fault!) ..and no, not the same night that the refrigerator was open. ha!
- Nugget grew a few more inches.
- Spencer did a flying leap and landed on our large, four-poster bed, breaking part of the bottom support.
- The Mister repaired the bed using some left-over baseboard trim he found in the garage, only to have Alex throw a little tantrum, landing on our bed and breaking it again two days later.
- Taylor is enjoying the beginning of college life and brought home a new girl....named Taylor...( you say "No way!"....I say "Way!" )
- Speaking of The University...The H1N1 virus has arrived with 2 confirmed cases. Chapel was cancelled all week in an attempt to slow the spread. Ugh.
- Some of you may remember the skin burns from mincing jalapenos.
- I was sitting here at the computer with a cherry Tootsie Pop in my mouth. Spencer walked by and pulled it out of my mouth and popped it in his own, never missing a beat in his step. Ugh. I scolded him and he tried to put it back in my mouth. Um...no thanks.
- The Mister and I enjoyed huge bowls of chocolate icecream topped off with my thick, gooey hot fudge sauce. Because, we definitely deserved it! ha-ha!
I heart every single thing in this post! Well... except for the broken bed... twice.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you are my hero. :)
We just had the same thing with the frig - open one inch, all night! However - you have me beat with the other things!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, I am cracking up! Definitely Murph!
ReplyDeleteYou know, when I get six inches cut off it's not too noticeable, if at all, except to me. But it doesn't look like yours is as long...I'd love to see a picture of your hair now.
The Mister went out when it was lightning? Was he tempting Murph?
One night we had an ice cube stuck in the little rubber release thing in the door letting air out most of the night, and the next night Chatty left the freezer door open about an inch. The good thing was that I went down to get a drink at about midnight or so and the floor in front of the refrigerator was freezing (we have a bottom door freezer) and I was trying to figure out why. It was so slight you could hardly tell.
My cousin Jeff has a sister named Jennifer and then married a Jennifer. My mom and aunt both married John's. My cousin Jennifer's (the original) husband is Richard, and so was my sister's first husband. My mom's name is Janice and my dad's second wife's name is Janice. There are more, but that's probably enough to throw you. :)
I hope you had some coffee with your ice cream!
Ok girls ~ what's up with our friges? I did it again today, but fortunately I was cooking dinner and noticed it. There isn't anything blocking the door, so I'm wondering how it could be happening after 21 years!
ReplyDeleteKayren ~ those names! That is just incredible! We have two brothers in the extended family who both married Christys. But I think they are spelled differently. Still makes a family gathering a little confusing!
ReplyDeleteI love hearing about what's going on in your world. I had been wondering how Taylor was doing at school. Also, I showed you my haircut and now it's your turn. It sounds like you always have something going on at your house. There must never be a dull moment. How could you ever be bored?
ReplyDeleteBetsy,
ReplyDeleteI won't mince words~this was serious stuff!! You did good, girl. You maintained!!
I love your hair!! Now I have serious problems. I let it grow long out of laziness and lack of the daring. Then I go a little shorter and I look like I am 12 years old. On top of it, curly curly. My straightener is my best friend.
How about this...a long time ago we purchased a big freezer for the basement and bought 1/2 of a cow. One of my sons left the door open for 2 days. Blood every where. Cow blood. We were only able to salvage about 1/4 of it that was still frozen. Ugh!
After you make a list like this, look at the houses up & down your street. You never know what goes on behind closed doors...
Have a ...wait...try to have a good week, my friend!! ;-)
xoxo
Jane
Oh my stars Girlfriend! Lord I ask that you would bless this precious family and give them peaceful days this month!
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy
ReplyDeleteyour salsa post made me make a fresh salsa with corn tomato, red capsicum and spring onion plus coriander - which you call ummm I've forgotten, anyway I added a little chilli sauce olive oil S&P and it was delicious - I have made it two nights this week...But I will make the bottled version soon too...
Loved the day's list...breathe...
Happy days
This was so much fun to read, I laughed and shook my head in disbelieve in between!;)) A great post! Your days are absolutely anything but boring!;))
ReplyDeletexo
this is such a funny post, betsy. you're right though -- we have to just keep smiling! i hope this week is murph-free for you and your family!
ReplyDeleteWhen the guys were home, one of them was always leaving the fridge slightly open all night, after those late night snacks. And one of them, I'll withhold the name to protect the guilty, would always leave the burner on high!
ReplyDeleteWillow ~ oh no, it must be in the genes!
ReplyDeleteBlondie ~ oh, that freezer thaw made me sick! Not the blood...the money! Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI am NOT laughing AT you but WITH you as you listed these things...I can most certainly envision Alex LEAPING/throwing himself onto your bed once...but TWICE???
ReplyDeleteAND Spencer and the stealing of the lollipop? I just laughed out loud!!!
Taylor and Taylor? OH BOTHER!
NEVER a DULL moment!!!
I think you and The Mister should have hot fudge sundaes complete with whipped cream, nuts and TWO maraschino cherries! HECK! Eat the whole jar!
I hate to laugh at your expense, but thanks for the smiles this morning! Some weeks are just like that, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine Spencer's flying leap!
The H1N1 is rampant here... seems the virus loves college campuses. I've resigned myself to the fact that the professor is being exposed to it on a daily basis. We're just doing a lot of germ gel-ing.
Christian ~ our bed has always been confused with the trampouline in the backyard!
ReplyDeleteI think that virus spreads through campuses just because kids at that age think they are invinsible. I have to practically beat Taylor over the head to get him to wash his hands. Grrr.
Nanatrish ~ yes, I'll post a picture...as soon as I can take a good one! LOL!
ReplyDeleteWow - that is an "amazing" week! Think I might've just eaten chocolate sauce right out of the pan after a week like that!
ReplyDeleteLove your new banner!
When it rains, it pours!! We have weeks like that too around here. You definitely need to keep your sense of humor and a few sweet treats don't hurt!
ReplyDeleteI have a "fridge-door-leaver-opener" here as well. He will go and help himself to a cold beer the last thing at night and sentence me to warm beers the next day. But he goes back to uni next week and I will miss the little chap.
ReplyDeleteOh Betsy...What a week, indeed...Sending you a cyber pot of hot tea your way and a basket full of cream cheese scones with a jar of cherry curd....
ReplyDeleteRebecca ~ oh yum...I think that little treat would cure just about anything! :)
ReplyDeleteDear Betsy, I am hesitant to ask 'what else could happen?'
ReplyDeleteI also had many inches lopped off my hair last week and it is soooooo much better! Happy rest of this week and weekend!
Wow, Betsy! I didn't know whether to laugh hysterically or go eat ice cream in empathy! I can't match this... for which I am devoutly grateful, lol!
ReplyDeleteOh my! what a week you have had - and you make it sound funny and totally pleasant just like a sit-com.......
ReplyDeleteI think you deserve whipped cream, nuts and a cherry on top of those big bowls of ice cream too.
Yes you have to have a good sense of humour - you certainly made me laugh. Hope next week is better though!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, I am amazed at how you keep your cool! Maybe the ice cream helps?? teehee
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope the next few weeks are quiet ones for you all.
I just love reading about your day to day Real Happenings.....I hate it when I leave the refrigerator door open....
ReplyDeleteTaylor not with the girl he treated so sweetly on valentines' day....ummmmm
Nanny ~ I know! That girl didn't know how good she had it!
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy,
ReplyDeleteYou ARE super woman. Bless your heart! You have a brilliant sense of humor. Thanks for sharing your last few days with us.
I'm tired now-hehe.
hugs,
Barb
What a week!! Wow! So grateful for your easy-going attitue and sense of humor. :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could keep as up beat about it all as you do! That's too funny about the bed!
ReplyDeleteThe doctor didn't test for H1N1 but whatever it is it's bad. She finally slept so hard this afternoon that when she woke up she thought she was waking up from surgery. (she's had two scheduled recently but they were postponed)
Hope next week is better for everyone.
Dawn
Man, you know I really do admire you and your hubs. You have to contend with so much unexpected most would not on any given day. The bed sage more sounds like Murph than the gutters even. Adn to admit you left the fridge door open--that takes realness when it would be all too easy to blame it on one of your boys! I had to laugh at the lollipop story, btw.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up, keep it real, A great post. You are so commendable. What a mom and wife cheering your hubs along the way through all these joint trials. !f anything you have a mutual esperience that few couple ever get to share and which can bond one closer together than ever. Way to go.
P.S. LOVE the pic, btw. Just draw curls on his head and that could be me with my big cuppa, breathing in every last breath of the tea's aroma. Soothing to the soul, I tell you. You should try it sometime--might help! :) Earl Grey works particularly well for that sort of thing late at night.
ReplyDeleteYou had me laughing, and shaking my head.... I didn't realize how boring my life is...
ReplyDeleteWe have the name Michael over and over in our family. Son, grandsons, son-in-law and great grandson....
Love coming to your post Betsy..
LOL:Wanda
Mmm~ thanks so much for your kind words to me and The Mister. I passed them on to him, and he appreciates it, too.
ReplyDeleteI HAD to take responsibility for the refrigerator as I was the last in it the night before, getting some kale out to feed Nugget before going to bed. Ha! Some things you just can't blame the kiddos for!
Mmm ~ shall I draw some goofy curls on this guy's head so he looks like you? But then he'd need a zip up sweater, no? ha-ha...Earl Gray in the evenings? I'm going to try that!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd rather read your week than replicate mine. You make me tired but I make me tired too. Your boys sound so full of life. The Tootsie Pop thingie, ha!
ReplyDeleteBreaking the bed? All boys do that. My 21 yr old is STILL jumping on his bed.
Hi! Betsy,
ReplyDeleteGoodness! I wonder what next week will bring! It's all about keeping your sense of humor, isn't it? And taking it one day at a time....which, sometimes can be more than enough to handle!
There you go...Betsy!
Take care!
DeeDee ;-D
Well, maybe you can't but you could try! :)
ReplyDeleteoh man...i was rolling on the floor laughing...sorry...can i say laughing with and not at? oh these are the days arent't they!!??
