I spent the weekend working on making a guest room
out of our spare bedroom. It had been used as a storage
room...an attic, really....full of projects waiting for me
to tackle, boxes of auction finds to be put in my shop,
our Christmas tree, extra furniture, etc.
I worked all week on emptying the room!
I had some honest discussions with myself on what
projects I would seriously do in the future and which
ones probably wouldn't ever happen. A few boxes of
things went to the thrift store and a few boxes of things
were listed in my etsy shop.
Then the fun came! I did some online shopping for
mattresses, night stands, a dresser, bed linens, pillows, etc.
Overstock.com is my favorite for that kind of thing!
This weekend I put a fresh coat of paint on the walls
and steam cleaned the carpet. Then I got out my girlie
power tools and put together a dresser. It was a huge
thing with 8 drawers, a tracking system, and hardware.
Fortunately it came with good instructions. haha.
Hopefully this week all the deliveries will be made and
I can finish putting it all together!
♥
Yay for you! I love the carpet. You'll have to show pictures of the finished room!
ReplyDeleteI will....the hard stuff is done, I think....now I just wait on shipments!
DeleteWow! What a project. I am impressed. You are like my Julie....she had her own tool box and does everything from changing faucets, ripping up carpet, and assembling a hutch. You girls would really get along. Can't wait to see the Guest Room.....who will be the first guest??? Do we have to make reservations...HaHa.
ReplyDeletehaha...Taylor and Lauren will be the first guest. Can't believe they live in Pennsylvania now!
DeleteReservations will get you clean sheets and food, so it might be advised. hahaha....
Woohoo for you! Can't wait to see the end result.
ReplyDeleteLooks so much better already!
DeleteWow, you are such a dynamo!
ReplyDeleteI'm very impressed .
Can't wait to see the transformation...
Way to go for GIRL POWER.
A long overdue project....I just needed a little nudge to get moving on it!
DeleteHow exciting !
ReplyDeleteDo you hire out, I need a few projects done :)
Can't wait for the reveal.
~JO
Well, that would be fun! Wish you lived closer! :)
DeleteExcellent....moving and honestly going through things was the best thing I ever did.....girl power.
ReplyDeleteYep....I do love this kind of thing!
DeleteCan't wait to see it. Taylor and Lauren are fortunate to be the first visitors.
ReplyDeleteI am in the midst of renos, too. Unending fight with drywall dust... and it's winning!
I didn't know that! How exciting! You need to put pics on IG so we can follow along!
DeleteWonderful Betsy - and how fantastic Lauren and Taylor will be there to test it all out for you - and I expect have plenty of future stays ahead ... looks amazing - good job nearly done ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteYes, it will be nice to have a guest room! I like how it looks so far!
DeleteWell, aren't you the handy girl?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great project. Like the carpet.
You look very useful with that drill ~ fancy helping me with some bird boxes and a tree bench? . . :)
But of course I'm a handy girl! :)
DeleteWell, I'm handy so what are you waiting for . . . hahaha!
DeleteI look forward to seeing the finished guest room. You always have such fun ideas.
ReplyDeleteNothing like your kids wanting to come home to get you moving on a place for them to sleep. haha.
DeleteWow, good for you, getting down and dirty, getting rid of those projects you will never get into, these are all things I am trying to concentrate on but it's difficult. Glad to see that 'gun' in your hand...good job!
ReplyDeleteIt is a little difficult, isn't it? Sometimes you just need a push. Without the space and a time crunch, I was able to admit that quite a few things just needed to leave the house....I kept the best projects to get to and the rest are gone. I know I'll never miss that stuff.
DeleteYou go girl! Whipping out the power tools like that! Sounds like an all weekender. There's nothing like the promise of guests coming to light the organizing/decorating fire. It's a big motivater, for sure. Can't wait to see the finished room.
ReplyDeleteYep...that is so true! You look at things differently when company is coming! haha.
DeleteIt was a good week...and weekend...lots of things crossed off my list..woo hoo! lol....you
know I love to do that!
Yes, I do! Lol!!
DeleteI am totally impressed Betsy!! I love Overstock too. I always check there first when contemplating some redecorating.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Overstock great? We redid our entire living room earlier this year from their Clearance
Deletesection. Amazing prices and free shipping...plus I love shopping at home!
I love getting packages delivered, even when I know they are coming!
ReplyDeleteIt will be like Christmas in July.
Yep...I know my UPS man very well. haha.
DeleteWow, you are ambitious! Great to get something like that done though, isn't it........
ReplyDeleteI never thought I'd see the day I had to build my own furniture from a kit but that day is here. I've had to help hubby put together an armoire, a desk and a large cabinet for our TV, even a swivel chair. Each time I swear I'll never buy another piece of do-it-yourself furniture because something never fits right or a piece of hardware is missing. LOL It does make for some colorful conversation some time though.
I look forward to seeing the finished room, I bet it will be lovely and welcoming.
Uh oh...fortunately I haven't had that problem. This went together beautifully and the instructions actually made sense! haha.
DeleteThat will be great when the kiddos come
ReplyDeleteHave a place to rest their bum
A spare room always meant to me
Unwanted guests at my sea
They thought they could stay
For more than a day
Pfffft to that
Says the cat and Pat
Sometimes it's a nice excuse to say
Deleteyou have no place for guests to stay.
I've used that one before myself.
They'd have to sleep on a bookshelf. hahaha...
Dreadful decisions made with company coming?
ReplyDeleteDreadful? Goodness, I hope not!
DeleteOh it's upstairs, did Jeff get displaced from his office? Sounds like a great place for guests/family!
ReplyDeleteNo, it's not upstairs. He still has his office. :)
DeleteWe have a home picture framing business and art gallery that is ready to go away. It will still be a studio for my wife but its function is going to change into more of a family room. I have to gut everything and start over, and throw a lot of things away. Once I start, it will be hard work, but fun. Keep up the good work on your project.
ReplyDeleteWell, I know how that feels! But it's all good in the end. Holding on to things that are no longer used is not good for anything and actually holds you back from something good to come along! Good luck with it!
DeleteSo we finally get to see your girlie tools in action... sort of.
ReplyDeletevroom - vroom! :)
DeleteYES!!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Linda :o)
