I had a very large painting on canvas that I didn't care for,
so today I hung it on the wall in my laundry room and
painted over it! I wanted a gray-themed picture so
I pulled out all the grays and white buckets of wall paint
from the closet, a few brushes, and this is how it turned out!
I'm going to ask The Mister to pull that brass trim off the
frame for me. My arthritic hands just can't do it today,
especially after holding the paint brushes! ha.
If you see a framed painting on canvas in the clearance
section somewhere, don't forget that you can paint over it!
If you went to an art supply store and bought a
canvas this size, it would cost about $100 unframed.
This is a great economical way to do it.
I saw the idea at emilyaclark.com a few years ago and
thought it was a great idea! I have one more canvas
waiting for an idea. That one will go in the living room!
♥
LOL...If I threw a bit of paint on a canvas I know it would not look like your fabulous piece! I love it Betsy.....very talented. I don't paint over other canvases but I do look for wonderful frames at the thrift stores....all the time. Have a wonderful weekend. xo
ReplyDeletehaha...I don't believe that for one second! I've seen your talent! And you could always stencil, right? lol....
DeleteI like your frame idea...I do that, too, at the auctions!
Gosh . . . what talent . . . you never cease to amaze me . . . :)
ReplyDeleteWell, that was sweet. :)
DeleteThe end result is wonderful. I bet you could crank out a lot of artwork if you had a set up some where other than the laundry room. You are too young to have arthritis. My old hands started giving me trouble the past few years and I really think I will reach a point that I won't be blogging anymore. Again, great job on the painting.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Larry. I think that painting is going to hang right there in the laundry room, too....it's a nice surprise in that long hallway.
DeleteYes, I agree I'm too young! And my doctor says that every time he sees me. It's getting progressively worse, too, so I suppose there will come a time when I can't do some things. Now I just work through the pain with some advil. It doesn't hurt at all to type, though, so I think my blog is safe for now. :)
So serene and relaxing.......
ReplyDeleteJust allow your imagination to wander whilst folding the undies :)
Such a talented lady !
~Jo
Exactly.....that's one way to make the chore more enjoyable!
DeleteLooks great, Betsy. My oldest daughter does the same. Changes it to suit her decor.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great idea...you can pick them up pretty cheap..especially the really ugly ones. ha.
DeleteI'll be darned ~ and here I thought I was the only person who did this!! Your creation is lovely! (Take good care of your hands.)
ReplyDeleteWell, this is my first time but I loved the idea when I read about it!
DeleteVery often there are canvases at the auctions that nobody wants....
VERY nice!
ReplyDeleteThank you! A fun little project to do today!
DeleteA nice idea!
ReplyDeleteLook beautiful!
Thank you....I had fun doing it!
DeleteRemarkable! Joan and I bought a similar picture to that in 2009 by Valerie Leri called "Choppy Waters", $440 (£285?) as a wedding present for some very good friends of ours.
ReplyDeleteI wish now I had asked you to paint one for us!
Well, I'm glad it reminds you of Choppy Waters. I wanted it to look stormy!
DeleteA nice idea!
ReplyDeleteLook beautiful!
Thanks, Gloria. :)
Deletezorry by twice!
DeleteIt was double nice to hear from you! Ha
DeleteThat's a great idea! I like the colors you chose to paint with- and it goes super with your wall color. Looks great!
ReplyDeletehaha...that's because I used the left over wall paint! Perfect match you could say...lol...
DeleteLooks like Lake Ontario on a windy day.
ReplyDelete:0)
Yes! Definitely not tropical...very gray.
DeleteI like it.
DeleteAwesome job indeed
ReplyDeleteAs always at your feed
Painting over a dud is a great trick
Save money and it still looks slick
Zero cost is a big plus.
DeleteNo paying a lot in disgust. ha.
Well Betsy, that's gorgeous! You have talent. It does look like stormy waters. Love it!
ReplyDeleteSince I don't live near the water like you, I'll have to make do with this. Lol....
DeleteWhat a great idea! I'm afraid mine would look like I painted it - and that's not good!
ReplyDeleteWell, the nice thing about paint is that you can paint over anything you don't like...I fixed the clouds a few times, once even after I took this photo..lol....anyone could do it..I really believe that.
DeleteWOW! Spectacular, Betsy!
ReplyDeleteI did this once with my children, only it was a nice frame, crummy picture from a thrift store.
Hummm... wonder where that painting is now?
That's a great idea, too! Something tells me that painting didn't make it to the cottage...or Idaho....because if it did, you'd know exactly where it was right now. Ha.
DeleteThis is stunning! What a great idea. I am now going to be on the lookout for ugly paintings! Do you have a "before" shot perchance?
ReplyDeleteNo before photo! It was black and gold....quite ugly. Ha. I'm just glad the original didn't try to peek back through the the paint after I was done!
DeleteThis is incredible!!!! Yay! Have you thought of painting the frame? Of course...I'm silly. Have you?
ReplyDeleteJane x
No, the frame is staying...I like it black!
DeleteIt's just gorgeous Betsy. Your grays and whites are perfect and it's just a wonderfully calming painting.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wanda.....it was a very nice change from my usual routine around here...I had been itching to do something creative for weeks now!
DeleteWell you certainly scratched your itch with that excellent painting... Hugs...Have a great Father's Day weekend. Are you cooking?
DeleteOf course, "it" being a good idea if one can paint;-) You certainly can....a woman of many talents. It is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteblessings, jill
I almost left it with three wide bands of color...white, gray and charcoal.....kind of contemporary but super easy.....anyone could do it and anything was an improvement over the original. Lol....
DeleteHi Betsy - loved the scene ... I love looking at the sea ... be it cloudy and grey, or sunny and blue-green ... gorgeous ... clever lady! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI love looking at the sea, too! Always have! Wish we lived closer to it!
DeleteFine art in the laundry room? I love it. You are pretty darned talented.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know about the 'fine' part. lol.... I guess it's a step up from a Velvet Elvis. ha!
DeleteI love this Betsy...I keep saying it, you should have a TV program!
ReplyDeletelol....well, thanks...but all those cameras in my house? That doesn't sound fun at all! haha...
DeleteBetsy, I love that idea of painting over a canvas. I would like to do one with a 'splatter, swish and blob' effect..sounds pretty good doesn't it? :)
ReplyDeleteYes...it does! I bet it would be very cool. ...you should do it!
DeleteWow, you are so talented!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenny....it was fun to do....
DeleteGreat idea and I love your clouds!
ReplyDeleteThe clouds were fun...I've tweaked them since this photo. One looked too flat to me. lol...
DeleteYou just amaze me. Constantly. ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, the feeling is mutual, of course!
DeleteSomething like that might make a Master's Thesis for the boys. Have they ever painted?
ReplyDeleteI've tried a few times to get them interested in painting or drawing...especially trains, but it never clicked with them! Too bad!
DeleteLooks amazing!
ReplyDeleteNow that it's been hanging there a few days, I'm really enjoying it! I think it's a keeper!
