I brought this little planter home from the auctions
a while ago. It's a tiny little thing but the perfect size
for hanging above my kitchen desk.
After some online investigating, I discovered it
is called a 'ferner'. Most have heavy gold edging and
are beautifully hand painted porcelain. They were
created in Limoges, France from 1890 to 1932.
If you happen upon a little hanging Jardiniere
planter, I suggest you take it home with you!
They sell for $250 to $350!
Mine was a steal at $6!
The little plant has been a favorite of mine for years.
The first time I ever saw one, I had just found out I was
pregnant for the first time. I was in the grocery doing the
weekly shopping and saw this pretty little lacy plant.
I looked at the tag and it was called "Baby Tears".
Well, of course I had to have it, so into my cart it went!
I had been on the lookout for a new Baby Tears for several
years now and couldn't find one. Over the winter I found
them for sale on Amazon! Yes, I had a little one shipped to me
from Florida. Although I wouldn't recommend doing that
during our kind of winter! It was -15F the day it was delivered
and it sat outside all day since nobody was home to bring
it in! It barely survived ... I think it was in shock, having
been living in Florida! ....but it has made a nice come-back.
So there you have my two tips for the day...
If you see a ferner, get it! And if you can't find the
kind of houseplant you want, look on amazon!
