Progress with Peaches

If you have a squeamish stomach leave now.
Yucky sick cat photo to follow...viewer discretion advised!

And if you're sick of hearing about Peaches, leave now. ha.

After being gone several days, Peaches came by this evening.
I decided to put his food in my cat carrier to practice for
the big capture and trip to the vet.

He was a little leary, but went in and ate.
I think he felt vulnerable sticking out like that.
If this was the real capture, I'd put an empty bowl
all the way in the back and quickly close up the end
once his tail got in.  Then fingers crossed the vet
will be in when I call and say we're on our way!
Now I just need him to come during the day
instead of late at night!

I wanted to show you a good close up of
how Peaches really looks, for those who say he
looks like he isn't sick.  When he washes his
face, he looks much better, but this is what
he normally looks like.

He was starving tonight when he came.
I wish I knew why he doesn't come every day.
What would be keeping him from coming?
We're close to getting him some help!
I just need a morning visit on a week day!

  2. you will do it, I have all the faith in the world in you!I have had sick cats before and one thing I did learn from all the strays we brought in is a cat is a tough animal, they do not die easily, they can withstand a lot, sad to say, but its truth,,,,,
, they should never have to suffer but stupid selfish people tire of them or just do not take care of them and they become feral suffering all that the wild brings with, injuries, disease,, its the people that need education, but a sad fact of life is any idiot can have a child and any idiot can have a pet, and that sure doesn't mean they should,,

    1. Oh, Laurie, that is so true! I want to get him all healthy and pamper him! Poor guy. It's so fun to see him come to my voice and he lets out a little squeak. :)

  3. Also, thought how odd it was to have a skull and cross bones on a pet carrier. Then I realised it was a dog with a bone. Ha!

    1. yeah, it's actually a dog carrier...but I needed one that day and that was all the store had. :)
It's kind of fitting, anyway...most cats don't like dogs. haha.

  4. Poor baby. :(
I had to go back and take a second look at the carrier after reading Suza's comment.
Praying you make the capture soon.

  5. Yes, he's a poorly lad, the sooner you can get him to the vet the better, but you already know that.
One thing I'm concerned about is........when we work with feral cats, they have to come to the clinic in a humane trap, the kind that looks like a wire cage. In order to work with ferals who are almost always panicked and non-cooperative we have to give the anesthesia through the wire, usually tipping the cage on it's end and with the cat trapped, a quick poke in the bum, and nighty night. Sometimes it's impossible to get them to sit still long enough, and unless your vet has a different way of containing them, I'm wondering how they would get the shot in him, through your carrier.
Maybe they have a transfer cage which they use, we don't have access to one, I just don't want anyone to get hurt, including Peaches.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you dear one.

    1. Yes, they said they would give him a shot and knock him out before removing him from the carrier. See the mesh windows? They are on all four sides. I've taken ferals to be spayed/neutered in this carrier several times before and it worked fine....and they didn't tell me not to use it, so I think it will be ok.

    4. Perhaps a little but I feel a lot better now ~ I was thinking because Peaches seems to come only by night his middle name could be Nicodemus . . . . . lol

    5. lol....doesn't really roll off the tongue as easily as Peaches, does it. You crack me up.

    6. Poor peaches. It is so sad that people treat animals this way. I have had personal experience of seeing some neighbours throwing their cat out when it was ill, rather than take it to the vets and pay for treatment. These were the very people who assured me previously that they loved their cat. Another neighbour took it to the vet, but unfortunately it died of Feline Panleukopenia a few days later. What I would like to do to people like that is unprintable.

Eddie - I too suffer extra pain with the compression bandages and have to get up in the night and have a shot of painkiller medication, the name on the bottle is 'Johnnie Walker', and it usually works!

    7. I am cracked up too . . . I can just imagine you, Betsy, with your soft warm gentle vice calling, Nicodemus! Nicodemus! Nicodemus! . . come kitty to Mamma . . . there's a good boy! Nicodemus . . . hahaha!

  11. If Peaches could only know such good things are ahead for him. I too just admire your persistence and care for your feral cats. It won't be long now...The up close and personal really shows how much he needs your help. Got home this afternoon, and with the exception of a bag of laundry, every think is unpacked and put away.... My own bed tonight......yeah. Sweet dreams ahead. Hugs.

How nice that you are home.....your own bed is going to feel so good! Do you travel with your own pillow? I do when I can...it makes a big difference in how I sleep away from home.

    1. Yes, it's a mystery why he only shows up once or twice a week. He obviously doesn't belong to anyone and he surely is hungry every day!

  14. Wow, poor guy has quite the runny eye
Hopefully soon to the vet you can fly
Maybe he knows from all the others cats at your sea
And purposely avoids that days not wanting to go on a vet spree

    1. I'm sure cats tell each other
that the vet is a real bother!
      Poked and prodded you are!
      Stay away by far!
That's why they cry the whole trip
and really give you the lip!

  15. Ah, poor kitty. He does look like he feels miserable. You're gaining his trust, though. I know it will be a big relief when you can get him to the vet. Are you planning to keep him?

  19. It looks very much like an abscess caused by AID's, Betsy. We 'adopted' a cat who had that. Once he was better, we were able to spend 6 years with him. Good luck!

    1. Well, that is encouraging! I can't wait to get him into the vet...so many things out of my control, though....like the fact that he only comes sporadically and not during vet hours!
