    1. Yes! French Onion Soup. Just saute onions until tender, add beef broth, a little sugar, a little Worcestershire, salt, pepper. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed. Ladle in bowls, add a slice of french bread and top with cheese....swiss, provolone...something like that. Broil until brown and bubbly. That's it! I've cubed the bread before, too, which makes it easier to eat.

  3. Funny your blog should be about soup today. About an hour ago my neighbor brought me a large container of "Jewish penicillin". In other words, homemade chicken soup. I've come down with a cold or some other kind of virus for the 2nd time since Christmas. That soup tasted like heaven. Lynne in NC

    1. What a wonderful thing for your neighbor to do! I'm glad someone is there looking after you! So sorry you are sick again! You know, a few years ago, I read about a study that said chicken soup really does boost your immune system. It's not just a feel good thing when you're sick but there is some science behind it! Hope it works for you! Slate sends hugs and kisses!

    2. I send "air" hugs and kisses back to our fabulous boy. Even if I could actually touch him, it wouldn't be prudent, as Dana Carvey used to say. I had to disappoint a neighbor's sweet dog today who couldn't understand why I couldn't pet her. I may be overly cautious, but I'm afraid animals might catch human germs.

    3. Slate accepts all kinds of affection...even through the air. Ha. Feel better!

  4. Yum! I love soup....especially when it's cold. My go to is homemade vegetable soup, but your French Onion recipe sounds so good that I might try it soon.

    1. It is 40 degrees and rainy here...perfect soup weather! :)

  5. Your recipe sounds easier and less time consuming than the one I use...which starts by cooking the onions low and slow (about 45 minutes) until they caramelize.

  6. Oh I love French Onion.....but have never made it. I didn't realize how simple it is, to taste so good. Will do that soon. The potato soup I took to our Ladies Bible Study potluck turned out good. One gal, who is a chef...make clam chowder....delicious. And another gal, chicken cheese noodle. They were all so good. These ladies really know how to do a potluck. The salads were great too.

    1. Yum...all of those soups sound delish! I love a good potluck. The potlucks at our church are yucky. (shhh! haha) I thought Baptists were supposed to know how to cook! It's been an ongoing joke here for years. When I worked, though..my, everyone was a good cook...even the men! We sure had fun and used any event as an excuse to bring in food! haha.

    2. The church before we moved here didn't know how to put on a good potluck. They thought it was easier to cater everything. The 27 years we were up north...oh did we know how to put on a potluck. This new church is impressing me in that department. HaHa. Hear a cute joke. Children were asked to bring a symbol of their church to class at school. Jewish boy brought a star of David, Catholic girl brought a crucifix and the little Baptist boy ~~ A casserole...HaHa. Baptists do love potlucks.

    3. It's always fun if there are a lot of good cooks! Lucky you!

And that joke is hilarious! :)

    5. Yes! Can't fall asleep at night because my body thinks it's too early to go to bed.
Then when it's time to get up it's dark and feels like the middle of the night!
      Same with the boys...

      And the up side? :)

    6. The downside for me is getting up ~ always is . . . lol
The upside is enjoying lighter evenings which means out in the garden more . . . and walks when it is light . . I can sleep very easily in any circumstance,. always have.

Yes I can see it will take time for the boys to adapt . .

Love the header, I think courtesy of Gloria if I remember well . . :)

  10. Oh, that looks so good - one of my favourite soups. I was just out with friends for Mexican - it was delicious. It's a tapas-like place so we ordered a few different things and shared. Then had our own separate desserts. My tum is full! And yet... I am still thinking I could eat this soup right now!
And I like that the birdies are back on your header - that's one of my faves too,
