    1. I haven't done that in a long time! But the romaine and grapes would have been a little weird in this one! ha.

    1. The crackers are Town House Pretzel Thins. Try them if you can find them up there. But I warn you...they are very addictive. :)

  3. Yesterday I cleaned out my fridge and freezer, but most of the stuff was a bit yucky. I manage to rescue enough to make a salad sandwich though. I grieves me when I have to throw out so much food because I can't eat it in time. Our one and only supermarket only sell the veg and fruit pre-packed in family sized portions, to make it easy for the checkout girls when swiping the food through the scanner. Because they have the monopoly in the village they charge high prices too.

    1. I wonder if you could split some of those big packages with your neighbor...maybe they could buy the celery and you could buy the lettuce. That is one thing that usually doesn't happen here with all these men....food doesn't usually linger long enough to spoil. ha. When I don't feel like cooking, a fridge salad is usually what happens. Sometimes they taste better than if I'd slaved over the hot oven! :)

    2. Good idea, except that my neighbours don't even speak. In fact I don't even know their names next door. I tried to communicate with them, but the trend nowadays seems that people here just don't want to interact with others, unless they are close friends.

    3. I love the tradition in America when new neighbours move in, and people come round bearing a gift of a pie or something to welcome them. That's something we could do well to copy in this country.

    4. Hmm...I was thinking of the lady that brought you some strawberries this summer.

A house-warming gift...yes, that is a nice tradition that we have! I'm surprised you don't do it over there. Too American?

  4. Hi Betsy - quite agree .. it looks scrummy. I'm always using odds and ends up - and come up with 'funny' dishes - that I probably wouldn't serve to others .. but for me are fine! I hate wasting food ... cheers Hilary

    1. Some times my clean out the fridge meals are weird, too....not fit for company. Sometimes they are all one color...all white or all yellow....kind of amusing!

  5. That looks yummy! I don't think my clean out the fridge dish would look so good. :)

  6. your fridge has good stuff in it. I fear a salad made out of mine would look very sad, most of the time. My dad teases his fridge is full of stuff too new to throw away and too old to eat. Taria

Do you ever notice that the salads that taste the best are the ones that "someone else" makes?

    1. I have noticed that...but not just salads...with everything! I think all cooks think that...so nice to have a plate of something presented to you once in a while.
