Christmas Spirit

With threats from Don to come to my house in his Santa suit if I
didn't get myself in the Christmas spirit, I set that as my number one
goal today!  I had gift baskets to make and it wasn't long before I
was humming Christmas tunes!

Eating candy canes helped, too!

Since half of our house feels new with the reno last month, it didn't
feel right to pull out all the same old decorations.  And I'm in the mood
to keep things simple.  I want a few decorations but want them to
be something special.  A few things that really make a statement
instead of lots of little things all over the house.

Since I didn't want to clutter the tree with ornaments, I
filled a large tray with them for a table centerpiece.
It makes a statement, but is low enough not to block
anyone's view across the table.

The tree didn't stay completely bare, though.
I hung my bird ornaments and crystal icicles on it.

Velvet, however, still needs a little help.
Perhaps it was when I told her that
"Not a creature was stirring...not even a mouse!"
haha.

    2. I have to laugh because the way Velvet is positioned in the pod sort of makes her look like a huge grey cat with a black head! But don't tell her I said so ;-)

    3. From some angles she looked like a turtle! Hilarious!

  2. So not just Cocoa and Samantha in the kitty pod now? Velvet is becoming more trusting I can see... even if a mouse isn't stirring!
I love your basket of ornaments - I have done that before too and I love the look.
Your baskets look sooooooooooo festive - I bet those who receive them will love them. Always nice to peer through and see fun things!

    1. She was in there for the first time and I couldn't believe it! Her favorite spot is on the back of the leather chair...probably because she's up high and can feel safe up there while looking down on all that is going on. She's coming around...she'll even take food from my hand as long as I don't try to touch her. :)

  3. Oh what a beautiful and fun post. Your baskets are huge and lovely sitting in a row. And I love the idea of your ornaments in the long basket...nice! Your new kitchen straight from a magazine...know people doing reno's are going to copy you. I still haven't found all my Christmas CD's ~ where did I put them. Sending love.

    1. Hope you find your Christmas CD's. At Thanksgiving, I couldn't find my stash of good napkins! ha. Hopefully they will turn up before Christmas dinner! haha.

  4. I am keeping it simple too, even if I did have to rearrange the furniture for the possibility of acquiring a tree.

    1. We had to scoot a couch over a little and move a fern stand for the tree. Thankfully, it wasn't any major rearranging...although I have done that before!

    3. Well, thanks, Rhonda...what a nice thing to say! I'm like you....thinning out the decorations I don't use anymore! I got rid of about half of them last year and will take more to the thrift store after the new year. Just keeping what I really love.

  15. Hi Betsy - fantastic .. those gift baskets look wonderful and make excellent decorations! But I love the new lights in the kitchen and dining room ..while the basket of baubles looks amazing .. I hope we'll get to see a close up of the tree at some stage ... Velvet is a delight .. a spray of her basket, a twig of mistletoe (which won't do her any good I know) and she'd be perfect for Christmas ... fun to see everything .. puts me to shame I haven't started yet ... cheers Hilary
