With threats from Don to come to my house in his Santa suit if I
didn't get myself in the Christmas spirit, I set that as my number one
goal today! I had gift baskets to make and it wasn't long before I
was humming Christmas tunes!
Eating candy canes helped, too!
Since half of our house feels new with the reno last month, it didn't
feel right to pull out all the same old decorations. And I'm in the mood
to keep things simple. I want a few decorations but want them to
be something special. A few things that really make a statement
instead of lots of little things all over the house.
Since I didn't want to clutter the tree with ornaments, I
filled a large tray with them for a table centerpiece.
It makes a statement, but is low enough not to block
anyone's view across the table.
The tree didn't stay completely bare, though.
I hung my bird ornaments and crystal icicles on it.
Velvet, however, still needs a little help.
Perhaps it was when I told her that
"Not a creature was stirring...not even a mouse!"
haha.
♥
HA! Laughing at the Humbug Kitty!
ReplyDeleteShe can really give the evil eye, can't she? haha.
DeleteI have to laugh because the way Velvet is positioned in the pod sort of makes her look like a huge grey cat with a black head! But don't tell her I said so ;-)
DeleteFrom some angles she looked like a turtle! Hilarious!
DeleteSo not just Cocoa and Samantha in the kitty pod now? Velvet is becoming more trusting I can see... even if a mouse isn't stirring!
ReplyDeleteI love your basket of ornaments - I have done that before too and I love the look.
Your baskets look sooooooooooo festive - I bet those who receive them will love them. Always nice to peer through and see fun things!
She was in there for the first time and I couldn't believe it! Her favorite spot is on the back of the leather chair...probably because she's up high and can feel safe up there while looking down on all that is going on. She's coming around...she'll even take food from my hand as long as I don't try to touch her. :)
DeleteOh what a beautiful and fun post. Your baskets are huge and lovely sitting in a row. And I love the idea of your ornaments in the long basket...nice! Your new kitchen straight from a magazine...know people doing reno's are going to copy you. I still haven't found all my Christmas CD's ~ where did I put them. Sending love.
ReplyDeleteHope you find your Christmas CD's. At Thanksgiving, I couldn't find my stash of good napkins! ha. Hopefully they will turn up before Christmas dinner! haha.
DeleteI am keeping it simple too, even if I did have to rearrange the furniture for the possibility of acquiring a tree.
ReplyDelete:0)
We had to scoot a couch over a little and move a fern stand for the tree. Thankfully, it wasn't any major rearranging...although I have done that before!
DeleteI love the ornaments in the tray, Betsy. The colours are gorgeous. Your home looks so festive already especially with the tree peaking around the corner.
ReplyDeleteIt's coming along! Just a few more things I want to do...I'm taking my time this week and trying to use what I have in new ways...really fun!
DeleteOh...tell me what I have to do to get your list for a gift basket! They look beautiful...and yummy! :) Your low key decorating is gorgeous! I'm a firm believer that less can definitely be more!
ReplyDeleteLess is most certainly more! It's taken me many years to learn and relearn that. haha.
DeleteYour gift baskets look like something anyone would like! I love the ornaments on the table, and Velvet too!
ReplyDeleteThey are gourmet foods....going to businesses ...so I think they will enjoy snacking while working. Always fun to shop for and put together!
DeleteLove! the table ornament tray. The baskets are so pretty. And! Velvet came home?!
ReplyDeleteMy sister Velvet just got her first grandchild from her daughter Samantha. He is an absolute darling
and she is beside herself in love. Just in time for Christmas...What a present!
Velvet came home after only 3-4 days. So glad....but it's Grey that never returned. She was such a dear and one of my favorites. :(
DeleteOhhhh myyyy..... HAHAHAHAHA..... (and you know why!) Your baskets look absolutely beautiful and festive. And I love the ornaments in the tray, and I love the simplicity of everything.... it works great with the new kitchen/dining/office. Beautiful job. (I guess you have the spirit after all.)
ReplyDeleteI guess I can thank you for...well, for giving me a push in the right direction. hahaha....although, if you want to model the Santa suit still, that's ok, too. hahaha....
DeleteAbsolutely stunning ~ what taste and flair. You really are a classy lassie with the sassy chassis . . . . . .
ReplyDeleteJust love everything you have done ~ I think you would make an excellent interior designer/event organiser. I would buy shares in your company because it would be a winner . . . . :)
I have been hired to do some interior decorating for people...always fun!
DeleteYou need to get your tree up so Peter can enjoy it!
I agree with Eddie, you have the classiest taste and your home is just beautiful and comfortable looking too.
DeleteThe ornaments in the tray are a great looking centerpiece.
Well, thanks, Rhonda...what a nice thing to say! I'm like you....thinning out the decorations I don't use anymore! I got rid of about half of them last year and will take more to the thrift store after the new year. Just keeping what I really love.
Deletelmao she looks cranky too
ReplyDeleteDisturbing her slumber at your zoo
Minimal is the way to go
Then easy to clean up later at your show
The evil eye she gives
Deleteto anything that lives!
I want to scratch her ears
but she has too many fears!
I adore the basket of ornaments and Velvet, of course! Those gift baskets are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteVelvet is a beauty. I wish she was a lap cat. :)
DeleteYou're way ahead of me in the holiday decorating department!
ReplyDeleteWell, it's that office party here on the 14th that's kicking my rear in gear! ha.
DeleteI'm so totally in the Christmas Spirit this year and I'm usually not! Your gift baskets are the cutest!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, how fun....it's so much happier when the Christmas spirit hits you hard and you can just enjoy everything to the fullest! Yay!
DeleteHi Betsy - fantastic .. those gift baskets look wonderful and make excellent decorations! But I love the new lights in the kitchen and dining room ..while the basket of baubles looks amazing .. I hope we'll get to see a close up of the tree at some stage ... Velvet is a delight .. a spray of her basket, a twig of mistletoe (which won't do her any good I know) and she'd be perfect for Christmas ... fun to see everything .. puts me to shame I haven't started yet ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteMaybe a little mistletoe will soften her little heart. haha.
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful baskets Betsy but always I love all you make for Christmas:)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to have those done...now they need to get out of my kitchen! ha.
DeleteAnd Velvet look cozy there in the pod!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't she? I love that little cave.
DeleteMaybe you will need other one because all cats love it!
DeleteOrnaments in a basket- that's a neat idea! Now I know I have seen this cat bed/pod thingie before...but up close, it looks super cozy, and I think my Katie would LOVE it. Where did you get it?
ReplyDeleteI got it on etsy. There are many sellers that make then in a wide range of prices. Just search for felted cat cave.
DeleteI'm thinking the same..simple yet making a statement! You did a good job Betsy. I'm also loving those baskets. I need to make some for gifts.
ReplyDeleteHumming silent night here..
Love your decorations! The Gift Baskets are so pretty! =)
