Only a half day for our contractor, but he got the rest of that
yucky plywood torn up off the floor! Yay! Now that the dust
creating work is over, I can dust and start washing things up!
He also installed the last cabinet over the refrigerator
and installed lights in the upper cabinets that will have
glass doors. Fingers crossed that tomorrow the dishwasher
will get installed, along with the garbage disposal!
This is where I was today!
A rather large auction, mainly full of box lots.
900 box lots, to be exact!
The interesting thing about this is that this is the second
of three auctions we will have from a lady that was a true
hoarder. All of this stuff (and this is only one side of the barn)
was in her little one story ranch home. Some rooms were filled
from floor to ceiling without room to walk in.
Many items were new and still in the boxes.
I guess she had the compulsion to
buy things, even when they weren't ever needed.
Makes you stop and think, doesn't it? Kind of crazy.
I did bring home a beautiful vintage alabaster lamp
and brand new non-stick electric griddle, which I had on a
'need' list. Also rescued some things from the trash that
will show up in my shop soon.
Did you have a good day?
I want to hear all about it!
♥
wowsa thats amazing!!! I am always so interested what you find in the trash, lol!!! I had a super duper day!!
ReplyDeleteYou know how you were talking about Walmart and people there with carts overflowing with stuff they don't need? I thought about that again today. Amazing and crazy...and sad, really.
DeleteI found a few neat things in the trash!...story to be continued! ha.
I'm glad you had a super duper day, Laurie...you of all people deserve many super duper days. xo
I had a good day today, despite the rain. A few phone calls to me and most of my problems were solved, you know the ones I mean.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe all that stuff fitted into a small house! I suppose the lady lived in the dog kennel because there was no room at home. I know someone here who is very rich and just buys things from Amazon because he is fascinated by shopping on the Internet. He as no need of the stuff he buys and doesn't even unpack them when they are delivered. The garage is stacked from floor to ceiling with them. Madness!
I don't suppose you found an embossed rolling pin for making biscuits and/or cookies?
DeleteMaybe this lady is related to the man over there! ha. Sad...just think of that money going to charity or something useful instead of all that stuff they don't need or even open!
DeleteNo rolling pin...but you know I have my eye out for one for you!
No kidding about the phone calls.....fill me in by email when you're able. That's great, great news!
Hey...first day on my pain prescription and I feel pretty good! An auction day was a great day to really put it to the test. :)
Deleteoff to have Taylor and Lauren come for dinner....
Geesh.. that's a lot of hoarding. I'm glad you were able to find something you liked and that the renos are coming along. Your kitty is just adorable.
ReplyDeleteThat's Jack.....trying to get my attention. haha....I think he misses the counter top to lay on!
DeleteWow - that's some auction. The boxes are not auctioned off one at a time then, correct? I assume 900 box lots means more than one box per lot? Yikes. Can't believe that was all in one house... and more! Mind you I think we would all be amazed if our "stuff" were displayed like this. Hope you got some fun stuff for the shop. Or maybe I should stop before I amass too much? :-) Congrats on the lamp and griddle.
ReplyDeleteMy day has been lazy so far - sunny at first and now cloudy. But I am about to become energetic and run a few errands. Hope it doesn't rain!
Love the sentry kitty! I can just hear the thoughts, "When is this reno going to be over so we can flop on the floor with our furry bodies... and not stick to it?" :-)
Boxes are offered one at a time. If bidding starts, then great....if no bids, then another box is added and so on. We had two rings going at once to speed it up.
DeleteI did get some fun stuff for the shop! And Suz...I know you...you love beautiful things. You don't have 8 new electric can openers still in the box sitting along your bedroom wall, do you? lol....
I can't wait to walk on the floor barefoot! I miss it! ha.
DeleteNo... no, I don't. I don't even have one electric can opener! :-)
DeleteI could picked up on for you today...or 3...or 9...
Delete:-)
DeleteMy day has been very nice. Mr. Dish did not work today so we went to Costco and picked up some things on my list. Then we even had lunch at their food court. The amount of stuff at the auction boggles my mind! Glad you found some things. I use my electric griddle regularly - seems mostly for breakfast foods like bacon, eggs, pancakes, etc. I like appliances that are multi-taskers, and this is one. Love seeing your kitchen progress.
ReplyDeleteI was happy to see that griddle today. Well, actually, she had 4-5! haha. But yes, I want it for breakfast, mainly....pancakes will be great on it. Mine died long ago and it just isn't the same trying to make them in a little skillet...especially when you have a few hungry mouths to feed!
DeleteYour day sounds fun...I love little lunch/shopping dates.
Actually, that auction looks a lot like my basement! Not quite that much stuff, but it could get there :/
ReplyDeleteI love your model in the remodel. Brave to venture into the war zone! ;) It's certainly coming along. I love seeing the day to day differences :)
Well, if your stuff in the basement is in nice neat rows, then that's something! haha. At least it's organized!
DeleteI can walk through all of my rooms and even clean under the furniture. The only place I really have a struggle is my "walk in" closet... but I can still walk into it. Yes, it does give cause to ponder.
ReplyDeleteWe had a good day, I think. Hannah now has her own set of wheels and I will get full use of my van once again. She bought a 2003 Toyota Echo from down the road and around the corner. We found it on Craigslist and it actually belonged to Rocky's mother. They have now been in Italy for neigh unto a month. We didn't tell the selling agent that we knew them. Didn't want it to influence whether or not he accepted our offer. It looks like a nice little car and I'm really very happy for her.
I have a personal rule...no storing under beds or furniture....if you have to do that, you have too much stuff. And I'm really good about taking things out of the closet if I'm adding new things. I do have lots of 'pretties', though...but they are used or displayed and not hoarded away.
DeleteSo fun about Hannah's car...I bet she's excited! Can't wait to hear about the neighbors when they find out she got the car! haha. Very fun!
The kitchen is looking great . . . gets better every time . .
ReplyDeleteGosh what a hoarder that lady was. . .
Wonder what you rescued from the trash . . . . :)
it's a secret. :)
DeleteLooks good!
ReplyDeleteCan't hardly believe that all that stuff was in one small house!
Glad you picked up a few things...
Getting ready for Thanksgiving....what kind of dessert should I make?
Enjoy your meal with the big kids...
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Oooh...dessert...anything you make will be fabulous, darling! haha.
DeleteI usually make pumpkin bars and pecan pie....
Perhaps "peach" pie ♥️......oh pecan....there's a thought!
DeleteWish there was a good recipe for gluten free pastry.....
ha i see that the forecat is keeping an eye on the workers making sure that they put everything in right...smiles.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he's well aquainted with most of the flock by now. lol....
DeleteWhoa!! That is just... Wow! I have no words!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a good day here if you keep things in perspective. Dentist for me, and x-rays for Son #1. Rotator Cuff issues :) but I got to hang out with him and talk :)
A little nice one on one time...love that. ...sorry for the reasons, though!
DeleteYour menagerie really know how to pose well, Betsy. That auction work looks really daunting, although it probably made you feel better (in comparison) about your reno. Lynne in NC
ReplyDeleteOh yeah...that auction! I've always been fascinated with hoarding and that kind of psycho illness. Seeing it up close like that was interesting...especially the obvious items not needed and still in boxes...and duplicates at that.
DeleteKitty looks happy no dust is flying
ReplyDeleteWow, my ocd would surely be sighing
I'd be out of there with all of that in one home
Compulsions like that make me glad i don't roam
I told the cats of your idea here
Deleteto tie dusters to them from front to rear
and let them run around the house
clearing out dust inside and out!
haha.
hahaha be clean in no time
DeleteNo dust or grime
Wow - that's a lot of stuff! I can't imagine living like that.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying watching the progress on the kitchen.
yeah...incredible. One of our guys had pictures on his phone of the house...rooms completely filled..you couldn't even see the windows!
DeleteAnd a third auction to go!
Makes me think she could have played Santa...think of all the RAK's she could have done giving that new stuff away! She would have blessed so many people and herself, too.
Deletehaha The kitty is bored with the mess.He say I want back my kitchen:))
ReplyDeleteand this was a funny auction!!
I agree with Jack! Where is the kitchen? lol...
DeleteHe looks worry:)
DeleteKitty-cat posing for us is priceless! A quiet day for me .. good news .. Carl's physician says he NEVER expected results so quickly based on his blood glucose numbers in August! He called Carl the 'model patient' and took him off one of the meds!! He lost an additional six pounds and is close to his ideal weight! Still have a bit more to do but the goal is to manage this disease with diet and exercise. Keeping all fingers crossed and staying on track. Side benefit of the new food plan? I've lost nine pounds in six weeks! Our lives have changed forever.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is just wonderful! Yay for both of you...a blessing in disguise perhaps? good for karl and all his efforts...and for you helping, which I know you did! :)
DeleteBless your heart on that kitchen reno! Looks like the cat is totally over it! Can't wait to see how it all turns out! That auction looks crazy! Hard to believe people buy so much stuff!
ReplyDeleteAll the cats are looking like they miss some soft cozy spots to curl in! haha...and I think they miss me being in there a good part of my day! It's just not the same! ha.
DeleteWhat is more fun than remodeling your kitchen? I've done two and they were both a great experience. I was lucky to have a very fine contractor. The first one taught me all about the process. The second one came more easily as we knew what to do, what we wanted & how to get it. Our contractor did half and we did half which saved us money.
ReplyDeleteIs your kitty helping?
It is fun....and I can't wait to see the finished room! How neat that you've done two of them!
DeleteHi Betsy - it's definitely improving .. hope some major appliances get fixed for the weekend. Clever you to find all those goodies ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteA definite improvement!
DeleteI. JUST. CAN'T. WAIT. TO. SEE. YOUR. FINISHED. KITCHEN! It is going to be lovely. I want to attend these auctions. Where do I go? What do I Google? You really find a lot of good stuff!
ReplyDeleteI know! I'm ready for the end! haha. Moving back into it will be the most fun, of course!
DeleteYou can find auctions in your area by going to auctionzip.com and look for estate auctions!
The contractor is definitely making progress!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool auction- I've never been to one like that. Show us that lamp, I'm interested in seeing it :)
I need to clean up the lamp and get a new shade...but she's pretty!
DeleteWow that's just crazy!! My husband is a hoarder and it drives me nuts!! The good thing is that he barely shops for things, but he doesn't like to get rid of the stuff that are old and don't serve a purpose anymore. I have to do it for him sometimes behind his back and drop it off at a good wills or something! Lol
ReplyDeleteBtw, I'd love to see a picture of the lamp you got! :)
