Kitchen Reno Day Seven

Today the glue was sanded from the floors.
The cabinet lighting connected, and the dishwasher brought
in and holes drilled for the hoses.

I felt like doing something creative, so I painted the lid
to an old glass tilt canister that I want to put in the kitchen.
I wanted it to look like brown transferware.
I painted the background with white acrylic and free-handed
the flowers with brown marker.

I'll spray a coat of clear protection over it tomorrow.
Does it need a knob in the center?
I think maybe it will hold coffee beans!

Did you see the moon last night?

  2. I vote for no knob. I think one might make it look a little busy. It's such a wow as it is. Lynne in NC

    1. Hmmm....you might have a point there! Maybe I can find a little white one if I find it needs one. I like it as is, though. Shall I let Slate decide? ha.

    2. I'm pretty sure eclipses are world wide..just like moon phases. We all see the same thing, just at different time zones.

Our sky was cloud-covered last night, in anticipation of the rain that started coming down about 4 AM

Our rain started later this morning....very grey and gloomy now!

    1. Oh and I DID see the moon! This morning at 2:30 when I packed Son #2's lunch and sent him off to New York for work! Then again at 5:00 when I packed the Son #1's lunch and sent him off then again at 7:10 when I got up the third and final time!! Yes, I'm tired tonight but the moon was beautiful and my boys have jobs so it's all good! :)

    2. Oh dear...you and those lunches! I pack three lunches every night..but around 10pm before I go to bed. They can sit in the frig until needed. ha.

  11. well tonite my fridges are full of 13 cheesecakes. ha! baked for a wedding a friend is catering on Saturday. I could pack the lunches at night except the one who leaves at 5:30 usually wants breakfast. And last night when the 2:30 one came upstairs he looked at the stove and said,"where's my breakfast?" haha, as if I'd fire it up at that hour of the night! He's perpetually hungry but I guess it takes real food to fuel all 6'3" ??? lbs. of him!

  13. Oh wow...your kitchen is really coming along. It's going to be beautiful, Betsy. Love the brown transferware look for the canister lid. You did a really nice job on that. I happen to have the very same canister that was once in my father-in-law's shop. I saw the moon tonight as we were driving home from caring for the retired-guy's friend's dog. It was amazing. Thanks so much for your nice comment today. I'm an emotional wreck...a puddle on the floor...but I'll get through this and love it, I'm sure. I think blogging will be fun from the country...yeehaw! Hugs, Deb

  16. I do love lights in cabinets! So pretty and especially at night when they are the only thing on in the kitchen. We will need some shots of that when the time comes. :-) Your tilt canister is beautiful. How creative to be able to draw freehand... I would have to make a stencil I think and trace it from that. I opt for no knob but I guess if you are always grabbing for things in it, then it might be a pain. I just think it looks so pretty as is. If you are going to add one, I was thinking of the bird ones that you have added to a few of your cloches. I think that would be a sweet, whimsical touch.

  17. The kitchen is coming together beautifully! I love that you even have the time and sanity for something creative.
I have some big decisions to make regarding my own sanity...

    1. I think being creative was me trying to preserve my sanity. ha. Just like this morning...the back of the house I vacuumed, made beds, did laundry and cleaned bathrooms. I think I'm trying to have some order. Oh dear.

I hope you find your sanity, too....without having to resort to drawing on lids. lol....

  19. Looks like you are almost done in the kitchen - how exciting. I will say I vote for a knob just to make it easier to open - maybe a small one that fades into the color?

I tried to wake my 15 year old up in the morning to see the moon and all I got was a grunt :) The 9 year old thought it was pretty cool though.

  23. Betsy, this is off subject but I'm wondering. Now that you have had your robovac for almost a year are you still happy with it? Does it still do a good job? I'm thinking about putting it on my Christmas list. Thanks for any input.

    1. Hi tressa...love your name, btw. :)

I do still love my bot! There's just something about him vacuuming a room while I do other things! It's great. I usually close him in each bedroom and set my timer for about 20 minutes so I don't forget him. Same with the bathrooms. The charge lasts about two hours which is a good long time.

If you get one, I would recommend getting it at bed bath and beyond and using one of their 20% off coupons, which is what we did. Let me know if you get one or have any more questions! And thanks for commenting...it's alway great to see who reads my posts.
