Random Thoughts

  1. Don won a little contest between he and me as to who would have the first ripe tomato.  Last week he posted one as big as a watermelon and it was deep dark red.  Of course I knew he would win.  He's in Georgia and he planted his garden and complained of the heat when I was still photographing snow!  I can't remember what the prize for winning was.  Good thing, because I'll have to shell it out! ha. Hopefully he won't see this!
  2. I spent a couple of hours in the boys' room doing some cleaning today while they were gone.  Their OCD and my OCD are not the same! Those stacks and stacks of train pictures two feet high and the inches and inches of scotch tape laminating everything does eventually get on my nerves.  Besides, things start smelling funky in there and I wonder if something is living between the stacks.  I have to be careful, though.  Last month I removed the tape Spencer had 'laminating' half of their laptop keyboards and when he got home, he cried big crocodile tears when I had taken the tape so he couldn't do it again.  Today I paired down his stacks, cleaned underneath them and gave everything a good dusting.  The grime on their mouses was beyond gross!  Spencer had to do a little rearranging when he got home, but after about an hour, he seems to be ok with things. Whew!
  3. Are you a crier?  I am not and I was wondering why that was lately.  Both of my sisters are criers and openly cried while we were growing up.  I remember my mother not letting me cry, telling me to dry my eyes or to stop my blubbering if I did.  To this day, I still won't let anyone see me cry.  Hmm.  Maybe I need a shrink. lol...
  4. Amy was talking about WIPs the other day and it took me reading her whole post and half the comments to figure out that it was Work In Progress.  Do you have any?  Gee, I sure do.  My cute little studio is beginning to look like a storage/junk room with all the things I have waiting for me to tackle.  I don't have any auctions this week or next, so I'm looking forward to getting some things not just half done, but completely done.
  5. Remember our three things that broke and then another started another cycle?  Well, the other two showed themselves.  It was the coffee grinder and the mister's brake caliper and rotor.  Next thing to break better be cheap....really cheap, to replace. ha.
I guess that's enough randomness for one day
or Pat will complain that I'm as blabby as he!
(not to be confused with blubbering. ha.)

  1. that wasn't a very fair contest about the tomato!!!! They have such an advantage!!!! I 'm so glad your rearranging didn't cause a big melt down, or maybe your boys don't have those now, I am a weeper, I've been know to weep watching commercials, I hate it, I thought maybe I needed a shrink! lol, !!!!! So there you are, to each his own!

    1. They really do have an advantage...same country but different world, really. ha. Oh, it's not that I don't want to cry sometimes, I guess I've just been trained to suppress the urge. Crying in the shower is a good place since you're alone and wet anyway. lol.... I remember of all things, there used to be commercials for Coton, that I thought were tear jerkers....that and The Waltons. ha.

  2. Usually Im not a crier, is curious because I was but the lasy times I dont cry but sometimes I feel so sad.
I dont think cry is bad of course not.
But the last times almost I don't.
but when I cry I make alone.

And when you cry you are not bad! Of course not.
      Only you are human:)

    3. Oh, I know that. And I do cry occasionally...I can just hold it in and it has to be something really bad to make me eventually cry.
Yes, Spencer was better with the tape. Oh my. He does use a lot of it! Miles and miles!

  3. Maybe you should have the next contest be to see who gets the first inch of snow. :)
I'm a crier, and I wish I could turn it off sometimes!
Sorry to hear about the brakes. My hubby just came home and said his muffler is going bad. :(

  4. Gosh you have been busy today!
I am surprised you found time to do all that.
Unfair contest about the growing - you should insist on Don having a handicap for unfair weather advantage in the south.
But your's are coming along very nicely.
Nothing wrong with anyone crying given sufficient reason - a lot of us do an ocassions, both for sadness and happiness.
Yes WIP abbreviation is very well used in BritLand.
Blubbering is such a strange word . . . . . guess our equivalent is blubbing.
Not very nice of her to say that. :(

    2. haha I guess so!! :) Unfortunately (?) I do cry but I hate for people to see me do it! I even do it for no reason when I need to speak to a crowd of people. I try never to have to do that, but sometimes it's unavoidable and it's something I'm determined to get over!! My kids hate it so I usually end up quiet so I don't embarrass them but sometimes you just have to say what's on your mind, eh?! I'm getting better at it but it's one of my "thorns in the flesh" so to speak.

      Delete
    3. your kids hate it...lol....I can just hear the "Mom!" haha. or as Taylor used to say, "Moooooom!"

Yes, sometimes you just have to say what needs to be said...tears or not!

  6. Well your tomatoes will come when you need them most! For those burgies and salsa and such that are so good through the summer.
I was wondering how the boys reacted to you paring things down. Poor Spencer... but sometimes enough is enough, yes? But I am glad he got his tape back.
I am a crier. Always have been. And I never apologize for it. For me it is the equivalent of laughing, or any other strong emotion. It needs to come out! And I always feel better after a good cry or a good laugh. I sometimes wish I could control the time and place a bit better. But generally I feel quite free to express whatever comes bubbling to the surface. I can't bear sad animal movies/commercials/stories. Does me in every time. And music often, very often, makes me weep. For the pure joy of it... or the pure sorrow of it. I cry when I read some of your posts that I find touching. Am I a big blubberpuss? No. But this girl can cry! :-)

  8. Fun randomness! Guess I've learned I'll never bet with a gardener who lives in Georgia! ;)

Gosh- I'm such a crier. I sweat tears. I cry when I'm sad, tired, joyful, emotional, angry . . . I even tear up from yawning! Maybe we could merge and you could share some of my tears 'cause it gets ridiculous at times!

WIPs- hee hee, so glad I'm not the only one to struggle with the meaning of that (and many many other abbreviations). I've got all sorts of 'irons in the fire' so to speak- everything from painting my front door and putting in a stone path in the garden, to organizing my basement and designing my own 'art studio' that was once the room I homeschooled in! Too much, but I simply don't know any other way :) Fortunately I've learned to not give myself deadlines . . . I just go with what I can for the day and allow peace in that. Things do get done . . . they just take their sweet time! :)

No deadlines for me, either...but I'm itching to finish off some things! So fun!

  10. Ha, with your contrasting OCDs, it's a wonder that you and the boys can share the same house. :) Glad Spencer was okay with your cleaning. My son hates it when Mom throws out one of his 'valuable' papers.

You kind of have a man's attitude toward crying in public. Ha.

    1. I'm really glad they have their own big bedroom that contains their stuff...and I don't share a bathroom with them. That does make it tolerable. I'm glad today worked out, though. I don't mind them having their quirks about things but there does need to be a certain level of cleanliness around here. lol. I filled three large garbage bags of his old papers. I really am surprised he was ok with it. But I was careful and kept the top 12" or so on each of the 6 stacks. I know the tops ones are his favorites.

You know...you're right! Not a girlie attitude about crying at all! lol...

  11. You know, I started writing about my daughter "without emotions" earlier today. She obviously does have emotions, but she isn't a crier. She's more of a stresser, though she does cry sometimes. Her stresses manifest themselves in sleeplessness and shortness of breath. I'm not sure that's any better than crying, but that's how she works. When her boyfriend was gone for five days her sleep apnea kicked up. It wasn't until he was home again that I realized what had caused it.

Me? I tend to be a crier, just not lately. I still need to have that break down and sob cry over my mom, but I feel as though I am encased in an invisible shell. Part of me desperately wants to cry it all out, and another part keeps shoving it back again.

I have way more WIP's than I care to count.
    :0)

    1. It is interesting how we all deal with things differently. When I stress I clinch my jaw....but I always sleep well, even when going through horrible stress. I might dream weird things, though! haha. You should let yourself have that sob over your mom. I did that with both of my inlaws when they died...it's part of the process and very cleansing. But I had to be alone, of course. lol....

  12. I cry at the drop of a hat, which can be really embarrassing in certain situations. Maybe I need a shrink, too :-)

I do think having the WIP out where you can see them helps. That's why I keep the door to my studio open. Hopefully I'll smile when I walk by in two weeks instead of groaning! ha.

  13. I am a quilter and have many WIP's. We quilters also call them UFO's (unfinished objects) Trying to get them finished though. I have been working on Christmas and baby stuff lately. Both kind of fun. I don't cry often but sometimes. Dh really can't figure out what to do when I cry. Almost 34 years married and dh still can't figure out what to do when I cry. Usually it is something pretty sad or I am getting sick. Your garden looks great. Taria

  14. When my boys still lived at home (one still does), I would have to do the same thing in their rooms. Go in every so often and just get rid of the oldest clutter - whatever I thought I could get away with without them noticing. I have a few WIPs, mainly because I need to be in the right frame of mind to get projects done. No, I am not a crier, and am so glad to find out I am not alone. It seems most of my friends cry very easily,
and I was wondering why I don't. I would find it very embarrassing to cry in public - I don't think I am a "pretty" crier haha. I decided I would just claim to be partly British - stiff upper lip and all.

I think pretty criers only exist in the movies. That's because it's fake. lol....

  15. Aww, your poor guys, all that work with the tape, then you go and wreck it!!!!! It is so funny how as you say their OCD is totally different from what ours might be. I guess that we all have our own ways of doing things don't we! Still lots of WIP's in progress here, and a new one finally started today as the scaffolders came and covered the front of our house so that the builders can start work. At least that is their WIP, mine is just to keep them in line and make sure they do it properly and don't wreck anything in the meantime!! xx

  16. Hi Betsy .. gosh cleaning around the boys' room must be somewhat challenging - but I guess you learn as you go .. and you are lucky you were able to whip the tape away and hide it ... it's wonderful we can get fresh fruit and veg ... oh I know short forms are really quite frustrating until I can remember them .. WIP was one, and POV was another .. I might have got them now!!

Cheers - and oh I do cry .. even at the tele or film if something emotional for me is happening!! Hilary
