Random Thoughts

  1. We've been getting calls left on the answering machine for Harry from the U.S. Marine Corps.  They want to invite him to give them a try and consider a career in the military.  Hmm.  I wonder who would be less likely to survive his boot camp.  Them or Harry.  hahaha...
  2. Have you noticed lots of blogs changing their format to giving just a snippet of the post with a 'read more' link?  Am I the only one that hates that?  Just give me the whole post!  Don't make me go to any more windows or pages to finish what I just started.  Simplfy is supposed to be 'in', right?
  3. I was looking for something on ebay this weekend and came across an embroidery kit for sale.  It was of a cat's face.  The seller, trying to give some pointers, included this...  "Collect your cat's whiskers and place them in the piece.  The whiskers give the piece a 3D effect and personalize it."  omg.  You have got to be kidding.  Ew!
  4. Do you ever wish you could go back in time and do something differently?  Yeah, I'm wishing that right about now.
  5. I gave the boys haircuts last night.  They were long overdue.  I think I cut about 4" off their heads!  They look so much better and getting them ready this morning was so much easier than trying to tame the bedheads of thick wild waves!
  6. Several of you have commented on my new header.  I love that picture for several reasons.  First, I love it because it's during WWII.  Those little girls don't have much.  You can see ration lines behind them.  Their socks are worn, their coats are filthy and probably second hand.  Yet they are so happy carrying those packages.  Their smiles are so sweet.  Every little thing was appreciated back then.  I also love it because I like the simplicity of brown paper and string for packages and use it myself.  And lastly, I love that song A Few Of My Favorite Things where that line comes from.  "...when I'm feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things..."

  1. Oh my, the header is precious... Just darling little girls celebrating life, even if it wasn't on 5th Ave.

Enjoyed your list... So the Marines want Harry...I loved your comment about this. HaHa.

I love all your little treasures..looking like Easter.

    Sending hugs and smiles.

    1. Well, look who's first! :)

Something tells me the marines would be asking Harry to go home before he asked to. haha.

  2. I love your new header too. I so wish people could be happy like that now.
I second the thought on blogs that send you to a new link to read the rest of the post. Keep it on one page and don't try to confuse me.
Yes, I'd like to do things over too.
Harry in the Marine Corp... Now wouldn't that be interesting?

    1. It seems it's only under a crisis that we forget the unimportant things and are grateful for the basics.

Let's find a time machine and have some do-overs. :)

Private Harry. I'm sure the story would be made into a blockbuster movie. :)

    2. A time machine! Oh, how exciting!!!
think of all the fun we could have.
      :0)

PS. Can't wait to see Harry's movie.

  3. Interesting Harry has received an invitation by the U.S. Marine Corps. I wonder why just Harry and not Alex and Spencer. Intriguing how they get names to contact.
No. 4. All ther time!! We continually make mistakes and a slightly older head would have made us do some things differently, maybe for the better but maybe for worse! Who knows.
Great you can give the guys haircuts.
Yes, as I said before, I love the header and you know what? We always strive to be happy in whatever circumstances we find ourselves and these little girls do it with very good effect. A powerful photo indeed. I like the little girl in the middle - doesn't she look happy?

    1. I'm sure the marines get their names from high school graduation lists. And I bet Spencer and Alex get their turn, too. Shall I wait until they are all invited and give it a go? haha...oh, I kid!

Yeah, some things I would have done differently. Some things the same but sooner. Probably would have actually done some of the things I only wished about.

Yes that little one looks happy. She's beaming!

    2. Did Alex and Spencer comment about Harry's invitation?

    3. Oh, no. My three boys have autism and do not speak. That was part of the joke...the marines wouldn't know what to do with them! lol...they would be sent home in no time at all I am sure. :)

      Delete
    4. Yes, I realise they have autism but did not understand they are not able to speak. But off course I realised they would never be able to actually join the marines and detected you were joking. Wish I could lay hand on them like in the Biblical days.

      Delete
    5. haha.a..well, if you could do that, I'd have you shipping (along with your hand) over here immediately! :) They make lots of noise but don't really speak. Spencer says a handful of words, but "Yes, Sir" isn't one of them. hahaha....

    6. I think a lot of us would jib at having to say, "Yes Sir!" lol

    7. I can't always bounce a quarter off my bed, either. ha.

      Delete
    8. Did not know that expression, bouce a quarter off my bed, and had to look it up. Yes, I see what you mean. A very quaint expression I will remember it.
I went to boarding school and I had to make my bed for 7 years AND they were inspected and boy if they were not up to standard we were put on 'gankers' by our school Regimental Sergeant Major (ex Grenadier Guards no less). It was a very strict regime but did not do me much harm and developed my sense of humour.

      Delete
    9. Well, keeping your sense of humor probably helped you survive, too. So when you mum said to get up and shut up, that prepared you for the future, huh? :)

      Delete
    10. She said wake up first, remember!! lol
I think my sense of humour has always helped me survive and always will. My grandmother had a great saying (they all do don't they?)
"Laugh and the whole world laughs with you. Weep and yo weep alone."
She had another one, "He who goes borrowing, goes sorrowing!" lol TRUE

      Delete
    11. Oh, I agree. I always try to find the humor! And I always had something humorous going on when all four boys were babies. ha! Oh my!
Your grandmother had some good sayings! Wise woman she was!

    12. Computer was on the blink but revived!
Yes she was remarkable. She also said, "Be the matter what it may, always speak the truth!"
Personally I am not clever enough to lie because I would never remeber what I said LOL, so it is much easier to do as Grandma says.

So I wonder what you would change in your No 4 if you could.

      Delete
    13. yes, the truth is always easier to remember!

I told Yuji below a few things I'd change.

Hey, I know...maybe we could go back and remove Daylight Savings Time! haha.

      Delete
    14. Computer definitely on the blink tonight!

Just checked them out at Yuji's - Was the 18 month vaccine responsible for damage to your boys?

As far as others concerned we would all wish for some things to be different. I would have worked harder at school for a start. Turning in. Must do some cleaning tomorrow.

      Delete
    15. Yes, I think it was...but it will always be a disputed theory.

Ooh...a little cleaning tomorrow? Better rest up! Sweet dreams!

    16. Been thinking about point #2.
You and most of your readers are right and I removed it this morning from my blog.
Much better and less clutted up.

    18. Hi Betsi - just caught me before I get the hoover going!! LOL
Well maybe not exactly like you meant, but at the bottom of each post it shows three "You might also like to read" piccies and post titles. I've had it for a few years and it's still on "Plato's Procrastnations" blog. I've been wondering about whether to ditch these for a while and I think I said I wanted to revemp the blog and it would have gone then anyway. I looks a bit less cluttered now. I need to redo and update my profile, and take some of the Sunday Roast stuff off. Laying off dear Gloria. She is such a nice lass and I don't want to upset her, although she knows its just a bit of fun. Well gotta go - a man's work is never done!! LOL . . . . . did I hear you say, "Or started!"

      Delete
    19. Oh, I see. Yes, many have that. I used to and cut it just for why you did. It just seemed like more clutter...and I'm not sure if it's really that beneficial. Most people I know don't go back to look at the old ones..they are off to the next blog.

      Have fun Hoovering. ha.

    20. Beautiful afternoon so did a good deed. Took an elderly lady for a drive into the local countryside and by a lake and bought her/me a pot of tea and cakes - like we do in England!! lol . . . .and then had an ice cream. Then back to my place to listen to some glorious music on my stereo hi-hi.
So the hoovering did not last too long!! lol

  4. Okay. I am laughing. I am just picturing boot camp. And Harry would insist on bringing Alex and Spencer and... oh my. I would like to see the drill sergeant.

I like the pics of the boys in the sidebar - is their hair that length now? They have such lovely thick hair.

I prefer the way your blog is set up, although there was an interesting "discussion/argument" that I saw on a few blogs last year that had pros and cons. And I could understand the pros of the other way. however, I personally like the way yours is.

Going back in time. Hmmmm... I always think things happen for a reason. And yes, perhaps there are things that I would have/should have done differently, behaved differently... but I am pretty happy with "me" at this moment in time and I wouldn't be that "me" without the past. Hard question. I DO wish I had checked my lottery tickets more often!

Yeah - the cat whisker thing is a little ewe-y. Why not attach some roaming furballs too? :-)

Love this Easter pic - fresh and fun and whimsical. Such a sweet bunny bank. Can't wait for my bunny teapot from a certain shop!

    1. Yeah, that sergeant would really need to stay on his toes. Alex would love working in the mess hall, though. And Harry would organize the pantry. Spencer would be good at paper control. Harry is constantly humming and making noise, though. He'd be in trouble for sure. :)

You should be getting your package soon. It seems to have been a long time!

  7. Perhaps you could try out for the Marine Corps? It might be an easier job than keeping all of your cats and pets and kids and husband and shop and ............ in order!!!!!!! What do you think? Not sure that they would allow cute stuff though and you would miss that!!! I hate that blog thing too, I can kind of understand for older posts that are further down on the front page, but for the newest post!!!!!! 2. Wonder if it has to do with SEO?

      Delete
    3. Hmm...maybe! But a search engine gets you there either way. Maybe it has to do with the number of clicks on their site? It reminds of me of reading an article in a magazine or newspaper and you have to go to the back to find the end of the story. ha.

    4. I bet you're right about the clicks. Sometimes I don't bother to read the rest of the story after the jump, either :-)

  11. I wonder why only Harry is getting called by the Marines... what list is he on that Alex and Spencer are not?

Wish you could tell us what you'd do differently... it's fun to think about but I wonder if it would be like It's a Wonderful Life where changing one thing would also change other things, and the end result may not necessarily be for the better.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm sure the calls to Spencer and Alex will get here eventually. :)

Well, the thing I was thinking of specifically is too personal for the blog. And yes, you have a point about It's A Wonderful Life. You can't just change one thing without it effecting hundreds of others.

      Delete
    2. ok...here's a few I wish I could go back and change...

~I'd say no when the nurse said she could combine all the remaining vaccines and give them all to the boys at once when we went for their 18 month shots.

~I would have chosen a different college major. I enjoyed Music, but wish I'd gone into a field that reflects my interests now. Culinary school, Veterinary, or CIA. haha...now, don't laugh. My interests are varied. lol.... and yes, I'm complicated.

~I would have taken a road trip or two that I only talked about.

      Delete
    3. Thanks for sharing, Betsy. Those are some major things. The first one... it's so hard to know for sure, isn't it? I just hope you're not feeling any guilt about it.

I probably would have chosen a different college major as well if I had to do it all over again. But then, it took me a long time to figure out what my interests really are. Maybe I needed to do all the different things I did in order to figure that out.

Seems like you are finding a way to enjoy cooking and animals without having gone to school to formally learn those things. As for the CIA, ha, well, maybe you're involved in that, too, and we just don't know about it. :)

Still time to do a road trip...

      Delete
    4. That is really true. It's hard to know at age 18 what you want to do as far as a career!

No, not in the CIA but I was a repo girl. haha...that's as close to detective work as I'm going to get. :)

Geez desperate for people I guess
Calling to try to get all into that mess
    And yep agree
Stupid stupid additional crap annoys me
The read thing, the captcha, the stupid disquis comment thing
All need to be taken and given a fling
As for changing things that opens up a whole kettle of fish
For if you change it you won't know you changed it and then once again to as you wish
Or set up an alternate reality at your sea
In which case you spin off a whole new time branch of the tree
Or change one thing and all goes boom
Changing the past just brings doom
