S'more Bars

I saw recipes for s'more bars online and tweaked a few things
and made it my own.  I've made these twice now....it's a keeper!

There's a graham cracker crumb crust on the top and bottom,
Hershey's chocolate and marshmallow fluff.
They are layered in the traditional way, but baked in the oven!

S'more Bars

1/2 c soft butter
1/2 c sugar
1/4 c brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 t vanilla
1 1/3 c flour
3/4 c graham cracker crumbs
1 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
2 king-sized Hershey bars.
1 1/2 c marshmallow fluff

Preheat oven to 350.
Grease a 8" square pan.

In mixer, cream sugars and butter.  Add egg and vanilla.
In a separate bowl, whisk the dry ingredients and add to mixer.
Mix well.

 Divide crust into two parts.
Press one part into the bottom of prepared pan.
Cover that crust with foil, pressing the foil down so it touches
the crust in all areas.  Add the second half of the crust mixtures
and press firmly to create the top crust.
Carefully lift foil and top crust out of pan and set aside.

Place two chocolate bars over the crust in the pan.
They should fit perfectly side by side, without overlapping.
If you need to, like I did, trim to make fit.
Eat scraps while finishing the recipe. ha.

Spread marshmallow fluff over the chocolate.
Add top crust by carefully flipping over the foil, pressing crust
into place and peeling foil off the top.

Bake 30-35 minutes until nicely browned.

Cool completely before cutting or serving.

Enjoy!

    1. Food always tastes better eaten with your fingers, have you noticed that? Pecan pie, especially. haha. Well, not all things, of course. Mashed potatoes come to mind. lol......

    2. Depends where your fingers have been prior to the eating event. . . . .

  4. We hear a lot about these Hershey Bars in Old England, as opposed to New England in the colonies, but we never see them in our shops around here. The last one I bought was in London (at Harrods) about three years ago. We do have Wispa bars though, fantastic, I'm hooked on them!

    1. I saw you on Pinterest this morning and thought you must have a snow day! It was a nice, slow day. I'd take another tomorrow! Haven't heard that it's a snow day, though...and probably won't be as they will have it all off the streets by morning, I'm sure.

    4. lol Zero calories, very true. Thanks, just eaten a tangerine and imagined it was one of your S'more bars!! Liked it so much I had another one. What an imagination you might think. I expect with the triplets refraining from sweets their teeth must in in quite good nick.

    5. I love tangerines! Or clementines...do you have those?

      Delete
    6. Yes we do! To tell you the truth I've never fathomed the difference but I eat anything like that - oh what's the other one? Come on brain, think. Ah yes! Satsumas - they are all delicious but I cannot ascertain the difference - perhaps we should ask our blogging friends.

    7. S'more the merrier! ROFL - sorry! Awful pun!!

    8. clementines have no seeds and are easier to peel than tangerines. But I think the taste is the same. I've never heard of satsumas!

    9. Then I must have been eating clementines - problem solved! nite!

  8. AGGGHHHH!! Betsy, you are torturing me!!! I love s'mores, they are just yum yum yum. I will not be rushing off to make this though because I am restraining myself - oh and the fact that I have to drive 2 hours to buy marshmallow fluff over here!! I will wait until the summer and make them the normal way with marshmallows - which only need a 10 minute walk to buy! I hope that these were as yummy as they look, I am sure they were! Is that another thing crossed off your list? Does giving impromptu crochet lessons count as a random act of kindness? Not had the opportunity for anything else this week. Sorry, I have rambled on here tonight! xx

Yes, I certainly do think crochet lessons count as an act of kindness! Absolutely! And what a nice one, too! I hope you share it on Friday! Fun!

  9. Perfect with some tea or coffee on this icy day!

During the night the ice broke the tree outside my kitchen window that my bird friends enjoyed sitting on :( and a whole mess of other trees I might add!

So your smores would be perfect to soothe some of that disappointment :) haha sugar cures many things I hear tell :)

    1. Oh, that is awful about your trees! How sad. I almost feel like trees are human. ha. It's so sad when you loose one! Do you remember Hurricane Ike? We lost our big shade tree due to those high winds. It was very sad. You got more ice than we did. We had 8" of snow with a layer of ice on top....but just a thin layer.

You deserve a plate of s'mores....yes, sugar is a cure...especially chocolate. haha.

      Delete
    2. Yeah we had about 8-10 inches of snow as well. now the ice, then more snow this weekend? a good old fashioned winter for sure!!

We will plant new trees but will certainly miss the shade these provided!!

    3. yes, that is true....it takes years to get that nice maturity and shade. We still need to replace ours!

  16. Satsumas are delicious - very juicy, hardly any seeds, and practically peel themselves. I love the taste.

From wiki: The name "satsuma" is credited to the wife of a United States minister to Japan, General Van Valkenberg, who sent trees home in 1878 from Satsuma, the name of a former province, now Kagoshima Prefecture, on the southern tip of Kyushu Island, where it is believed to have originated.

    1. I looked at them online. They look just like a clementine! I wonder if I've had them and didn't realize it! I'll have to look for them next grocery trip. Citrus takes extra good during the winter, doesn't it? yum.

      Delete
  17. It sure does! I finished the last of my clementines and my honey tangerines yesterday and I am pining for some more. Yes, satsumas do look like clementines but slightly larger and, to me, have a slightly deeper flavor. I love blood oranges too. Yum! I saw a great recipe the other day for beet and orange salad which is not a combination I had thought of before - but makes perfect sense.

    1. I made a citrus salad yesterday with our dinner that was really yummy. Greens and thinly sliced red onion. Then I had the last of our citrus that needed to be used up...grapefruit and orange...peeled and cut in chunks. I used the juice on the cutting board and whisked it with canola oil, honey, s & p, poppy seeds...and that made a really yummy dressing. It was a nice, fresh change from our typical tossed salad.

blood oranges...yum. I haven't had one in a while, though.

beet and orange salad....that sounds very interesting! I want to try it! :)

Here's the one I saw: http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/orange_and_beet_salad/ But I also like this one with roasted beets http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/23/health/beet-orange-and-arugula-salad.html?_r=0o Tonight I had a great salad of mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, pecans, pears and blue cheese! So tasty.

  21. That looks so good and being sick with a lung infection for over a week now, this even makes me want to go to the store but I doubt I could get any energy to go. Will have to make this when I get well. I did pin it under chocolate to share it. Going back to bed now. Stay warm. We did get one day of some rain. Not a dent into our drought situation.

    God bless.

No, I don't suppose one day of rain would help at all, really! You need a month of soaking or more!

  22. I see there is quite a lot of comment about Satsumas. Tangerines and Clementines lol.
Much clearer now - they were definitely Clementines - I'll always get those by preference.
