Sending Guests Home With Holiday Leftovers

I did something a little different with leftovers this past
Thanksgiving and it turned out to be a great idea!
I filled Chinese take out containers and labelled them
right when we cleared the table.  Then I lined them up
on a wicker tray and slid them into the refrigerator!

When it was time for the guests to go home, I just handed them
a tray!  So much better than dragging food out and trying to
find containers while they are wanting to leave!

Chinese take out containers are easy to find these days...
in craft stores and supply stores.  But I got lucky and found a new,
sealed package of 500 16 oz containers in the auction trash.
That's a lifetime supply, I'm thinking. ha.
So, come over for dinner and I'll fill a few for you to take home!

  3. That is amazing, and so was your find at the auction. My son bought those plastic containers at the dollar store for our leftovers, but I like your idea better. Clever, clever!

  5. Great idea! I like the idea of the wicker tray, too. We bought a bunch of those plastic containers to send leftovers home with our Thanksgiving diners. Will have to remember this for the future.

  6. And the very best part was that the gravy stayed with the mashed potatoes and everything was in its own separate container :-)

    1. OK, but some party or dinner, you will have guests come that won't be so bold as to assume they get to take home food. ha.

  13. That definitely does sound like a life time supply to me Betsy, such a wonderful idea. Winds me up though, I have this onrunning joke with my gym buddy Jamie, he puts his chalk into an old Chinese container and if I so much as touch it he always jokes about how expensive it cost him and how I'll owe him money if I break it. I am going to use this post as evidence next time that these are accessible!

  14. Great! I had the same thoughts for leftovers, but our Chinese restaurant uses the clear/white plastic rectangular/round bowls, so that's what I used. As I was cleaning off the turkey from the bones (while my hubby was doing the dishes!), the guests were filling up their own individual containers and everyone had leftovers for the next day, which they so appreciated.
