Morning View ~ Morning Thoughts

Morning view from my front window.
10-21-13

There are four things you cannot recover~

                                    1.  The stone..... after it's thrown.
                                    2.  The word....after it's said.
                                    3.  The occasion...after it's missed.
                                    4.  The time....after it's gone.

  15. What I need is a little tiny Betsy that I can put in my pocket to remind me of these things as I go about my day - can you shrink yourself really small?

  17. What a lovely tree. Is it a Liquidambar or a Maple maybe?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think it's a maple. Funny you should mention Liquidambar. I was just reading about those yesterday...never heard of them, but they are recommended if you want a fast growing tree.

      Delete
    2. They do grow fast. You may know Liquidambars as Sweet Gums or maybe even Alligator Wood? I think they are native to the the eastern states of the US. Maples of course you get just everywhere! Liquidambars have very exciting autumn colour - they'll turn bright yellow and orange and crimson and still some green leaves all at once. I wish my garden was big enough to grow one but we have a Purple Leaf Plum and a genuine ex-Christmas tree already.

    3. I've heard of Sweet Gums, but couldn't identify one. They sound beautiful!

      Delete
    4. Um. Hand shaped leaves like maples but they grown alternate on the twig where maple leaves always grow opposite. Probably a bit late in the year to squish a leaf and get a lovely zesty lemon smell but you might be lucky. Little bobbly flowers and prickly bobbly fruits - of course you know that maples have clusters of little green/yellow flowers and the fruits (samaras or keys) come in clusters and fly like helicopters. They probably grow wild near you. Not in London of course but we have several wild maples instead.

  20. Beautiful picture! I think our leaves are going to fall before they get any great color. Happens here in the south on occasion. I did read that some parts of our GA. state are doing well with color.

The list really makes one think. And so true.
