Grilled Turkey Burgers

I had never made these, but have had a turkey burger before.
So when I had a coupon for $2 off any freshly ground turkey
from the grocery and found a package in the clearance bin
marked half price, I thought it was time I tried making
them myself. I mean, the meat was practically free!
If made correctly, turkey burgers are juicy and full of flavor!

Grilled Turkey Burgers

1 1/2 lbs. ground fresh turkey
1/2 c grated white cheese (I used Jarlsberg)
2 t grated fresh onion
1/4 c fresh cilantro, snipped with scissors
1/4 c bread crumbs
1/4 c Dijon mustard
1 clove garlic, minced
salt and pepper

Mix well and form into 4 patties.
Grill as you would for beef burgers but
cook through just until there isn't any pink
in the middle.  Don't over cook or they will be dry.

I topped them with additional cheese, mayo, and lettuce.
Now if it was summer, a slice of tomato would
have been the finishing touch!

    1. they were...and a very nice change! I have them on the menu to have again soon. All the warm weather foods are starting to sound good...soup and comfort food will leave and we'll be grilling and making light salads soon. Sounds yummy, doesn't it?

    2. Sure does. We did some experimental grilling tonight. The kids were gracious and ate it :) Haha. But I do want to try it again maybe we can get it right the second time. It involved cedar plank grilling. Lovely flavor!

    4. Well we tried some flank steak. The smoky flavor was great but it was a tad dry. They had it with tossed salad so that helped juice it up a little. I ate mine with a marinated concoction of tomato onion and feta salad. That was yummy!

    5. well, that sounds good. I asked because I always think of salmon on a cedar plank. But I guess anything would be good!

    6. We're not really 'fish-y' folks around here. :) although i would love like to try it grilled like that sometime. The smoky flavor would help :) I do enjoy certain kinds of fish but I've never had salmon. And we have a son that doesn't feel good when he eats fish so I usually don't bother.

    7. None of our boys eat salmon. ha. It's my favorite, actually, and we eat it when it's just the two of us. I bet you'd like it grilled with a brown sugar soy sauce on it. It's not fishy. I love how quickly it's ready...just two minutes per side. Still...hardly worth the effort if you have to make something for the rest of the family.

  15. I've not had one before, I use it in my spaghetti sauce but hubby prefers beef. I've heard you can mix the beef and turkey and most people will taste the beef more than the turkey. And I have seen on the food network where they use ground turkey, beef, and pork to make a meatloaf and it is supposed to be the best tasting meatloaf. But then again they sometimes switch the turkey with ground lamb. I also think one could make shepherd's pie with ground turkey. You might have to change the spices a bit but I think it would be healthy. Your burgers do look yummy, and the salad too.

    God bless.
