H Is For Hydration

I've never been one to drink a lot of water.
I guess I don't usually feel thirsty and don't even
finish a glass with a meal!
But we all know that we're supposed to take
in 64 ounces of water daily for optimal health.
And half the population is at least mildly dehydrated!

Proper hydration helps us feel more alert,
balances mood, improves coordination, even
helps in better decision making and concentration.
It also helps manage hunger and weight control
and just allows our bodies to work better.
And it flushes toxins and sickness from our
bodies.  That's why doctor's orders usually
include, "drink plenty of fluids".

It was also my main New Year's Resolution.
(yeah Pat and Silver, I know how you feel..just
spare me the snide comments this once. haha)
And I'm happy to say that over three months
into the year, I'm still drinking my water!
And you know what?  I feel better!
(I'm still drinking my pot of coffee, too!
Can't give that up! ha.)

So, get hydrated and see if you feel
a difference, too!

  1. I'm glad you shared the facts, Betsy. I am probably taking in more fluids than I need to and always have. I always have something to drink by my side or on my kitchen counter or in my car. I alternate between coffee, tea, juice, Crystal Light and Diet Pepsi throughout the day. Although caffeine can dehydrate you, it won't in small quantities and substituting various drinks for water definitely counts. Sad thing is, now that I'm older, I'm running to the bathroom all night long! lol!

    1. And you were the one to advise me on having the boys drink a lot before having blood drawn! I will never forget that piece of advise...it made our day a success, thanks to you!

    2. A worker at our local blood bank gave me that advice about hydrating prior to a blood draw ... it was miraculous. For once, I didn't have to have blood taken from a vein on the top of my hand!!

    3. It's such a great tip to know! My boys have always been tortured with the needles. This last time was a breeze!

The flavor of the cucumber is very refreshing...

  17. Good for you. Water is really good for you. Hubby drinks over a gallon a day and ds is the same. They love it.

    But!
I hate water! The stuff makes me nauseated. You'd think I have rabies. :D
I keep crushed ice in a glass and that I can handle...just. I'll take my meds with water.
Usually get my hydration from iced tea w/lemon or Hot tea w/lemon&cream.

I get the nausea thing...I can't drink it first thing in the morning. But coffee on an empty stomach doesn't bother me at all! Go figure!

  18. I tell myself to do this every day, and like you, I'm not very thirsty so I don't even think about it, and sometimes it 'hits' in the evening and I don't like to drink too much before bedtime. A great post! Thanks for the reminder.

  21. Got I back just in time to comment on Hydration!
When I'm away for an overnight and don't have an alarm clock, I just drink a glass of water.
    That usually wakes me up!

  24. You're going to hate me Betsy but be careful with the water! I always tried to follow drinking lots of water after reading about it but it escalated and I kept drinking more and more until I found out that too much of water was good and about water poisoning. The thought terrified me for so long haha, though I guess I've grown out of it now, I just drink less.

    1. Oh, water poisoning is deadly! But that is drinking more than a gallon in one hour...it thins your blood. 64 ounces throughout the day is safe! Be careful!
