I've never been one to drink a lot of water.
I guess I don't usually feel thirsty and don't even
finish a glass with a meal!
But we all know that we're supposed to take
in 64 ounces of water daily for optimal health.
And half the population is at least mildly dehydrated!
Proper hydration helps us feel more alert,
balances mood, improves coordination, even
helps in better decision making and concentration.
It also helps manage hunger and weight control
and just allows our bodies to work better.
And it flushes toxins and sickness from our
bodies. That's why doctor's orders usually
include, "drink plenty of fluids".

It was also my main New Year's Resolution.
(yeah Pat and Silver, I know how you feel..just
spare me the snide comments this once. haha)
And I'm happy to say that over three months
into the year, I'm still drinking my water!
And you know what? I feel better!
(I'm still drinking my pot of coffee, too!
Can't give that up! ha.)
So, get hydrated and see if you feel
a difference, too!

I'm glad you shared the facts, Betsy. I am probably taking in more fluids than I need to and always have. I always have something to drink by my side or on my kitchen counter or in my car. I alternate between coffee, tea, juice, Crystal Light and Diet Pepsi throughout the day. Although caffeine can dehydrate you, it won't in small quantities and substituting various drinks for water definitely counts. Sad thing is, now that I'm older, I'm running to the bathroom all night long! lol!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
well, good for you...sounds like you're very well hydrated!
DeleteAnd yeah, I know the bathroom trip in the night...at least it's only one for me. haha.
Betsy, I've always been one to drink a lot of water, and I really believe that is one reason why I've been blessed with good health overall. Good going on keeping your resolution!
ReplyDeleteAnd you were the one to advise me on having the boys drink a lot before having blood drawn! I will never forget that piece of advise...it made our day a success, thanks to you!
DeleteA worker at our local blood bank gave me that advice about hydrating prior to a blood draw ... it was miraculous. For once, I didn't have to have blood taken from a vein on the top of my hand!!
DeleteIt's such a great tip to know! My boys have always been tortured with the needles. This last time was a breeze!
DeleteI do try to drink a lot - but even I don't drink as much as I should. sandie
ReplyDeletejust the effort is good, I think...
Delete2 litres a day
ReplyDeleteAt least at my bay
And that is it
Sadly body is still rather umm strat quite a bit
And hmmm I'll let Grammar Nazi take that
And be a good cat haha
There was nothing wrong with my grammar!
DeleteI didn't even stammer!
hahaha. He probably won't even read this
so won't be able to leave a hiss.
:)
2 liters is a lot for you,
always running to the loo.
Nah body is used to it now
DeleteAnd no longer has a cow
Making me go
Every hour on the hour at my show haha
so your bladder stretched a ton
Deleteand now you don't have to run?
lol....
I am a 'horrible' person ~~ do not drink nearly enough water ~~ and have already fallen off the poem a day bandwagon ~~ just call me slacker!!
ReplyDeletehaha....well, I think drinking the water would be much easier than writing a poem a day!
DeleteMe too... I try to keep a bottle with me as I go about my work. Oh dear....it's 6 pm here, and I see it's only half gone.... I better get busy!!! You glass of water really looks refreshing.
ReplyDeleteHope that isn't your first bottle of the day! ha.
DeleteI was but it's a REALLY big bottle.... I'll do better tomorrow.
DeleteWater is important, but sometimes I get so tired of drinking it! lol
ReplyDeleteI guess it can be a little boring. ha.
DeleteI am a water drinker....I always have been. People sometimes tease me about drinking water rather than pop or something else. But I really do prefer it. Good for you keeping up with the water!
ReplyDeleteI now follow you on Pinterest. :)
I have been getting things ready to put in the greenhouse(it was 70 in there today), but not outside.
Take care,
Nancy
well, water is better for you than pop, of course, so it's great you prefer it! Your greenhouse sounds like so much fun!
DeleteI have been filling one of my pitchers with water and sliced english cucumber...
ReplyDeleteThe flavor of the cucumber is very refreshing...
I do drink a lot of water daily...and pee a lot as well!!! hahaha!
Sliced Lemons is also a good thing to add...
Makes downing all that water just a wee bit tastier!!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
My Taylor likes cucumber in his water!
Deleteha all that water may help flush out some of that coffee...smiles...i cant talk...coffee is my drug of choice...i need to drink more...i know when i have i lost a ton of weigh...
ReplyDeletewell, of course you love coffee, my twin. haha...
Deleteremembering to drink the amount of water is important but easy to forget for me!
ReplyDeleteespecially in the cold weather, I think. It's never something I crave, that is for sure!
DeleteA good reminder...
ReplyDeletewell, I needed an "H". haha.
DeleteWater is good for you!! Take care
ReplyDeletex
yes, it is! Very well said. lol...
DeleteI do try to drink a lot but when I am going out I drink next to nothing. It is not easy to find toilets in some places!! Have a good week Diane
ReplyDeleteI do the same...I hate trying to find a bathroom!
DeleteI've been struggling with drinking enough this winter. I'm so cold, and I like my water cold, and that makes me shiver, and ................ Anyway, my dr. gave me a lecture about it. When you're pregnant you need to drink a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteyeah, it's still not my favorite thing to do...I think of it as more of a chore, like taking vitamins. lol....
DeleteI can really feel the difference in my body - and my mind! - when I'm not hydrated.
ReplyDeleteHappy A-Z!
I have begun to notice that, too! It's nice!
DeleteI've been trying to drink more water this year too. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes not.
ReplyDeleteit does take a while to get into the habit, I will admit that!
DeleteGood for you. Water is really good for you. Hubby drinks over a gallon a day and ds is the same. They love it.
ReplyDeleteBut!
I hate water! The stuff makes me nauseated. You'd think I have rabies. :D
I keep crushed ice in a glass and that I can handle...just. I'll take my meds with water.
Usually get my hydration from iced tea w/lemon or Hot tea w/lemon&cream.
Jake's a Girl
a gallon a day...that's twice as much as me. wow!
DeleteI get the nausea thing...I can't drink it first thing in the morning. But coffee on an empty stomach doesn't bother me at all! Go figure!
I tell myself to do this every day, and like you, I'm not very thirsty so I don't even think about it, and sometimes it 'hits' in the evening and I don't like to drink too much before bedtime. A great post! Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteanything I can do to help...lol....
DeleteOh - and I LOVE your singing bird on the sidebar - perfect for you! =)
ReplyDeleteisn't he sweet??
DeleteI just can't seem to get into the water drinking habit. If only an IV bag were an option...
ReplyDeletekeep trying!! :)
DeleteGot I back just in time to comment on Hydration!
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm away for an overnight and don't have an alarm clock, I just drink a glass of water.
That usually wakes me up!
haha...I'll remember that trick!
DeleteA New Year's Resolution? Okay, okay, I'll behave.
ReplyDeleteGuess you don't believe those who say that all that coffee dehydrates you. I don't either, actually.
Oh, it might...but not enough for me to notice...
Delete64 ounces? Does tea count? I try to remember to drink liquids but, like you say, I don't feel thirsty often enough.
ReplyDeleteYou're going to hate me Betsy but be careful with the water! I always tried to follow drinking lots of water after reading about it but it escalated and I kept drinking more and more until I found out that too much of water was good and about water poisoning. The thought terrified me for so long haha, though I guess I've grown out of it now, I just drink less.
ReplyDeleteOh, water poisoning is deadly! But that is drinking more than a gallon in one hour...it thins your blood. 64 ounces throughout the day is safe! Be careful!
DeleteOh yes .. I drink water all the time - then have to stop when I go out!! But such is life .. but I've always loved water .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI love water betsy Is my favorite drink!! and is good for you!:)
