Auction Stories

Today I worked an auction that was 95% vintage jewelry!
I guess that made up for the auction Saturday that was 100% farm equipment
out in the freezing cold! ha.  This one was inside, warm and low key.
There were lots of vintage baby carriages, vintage wedding gowns,
and furs.  And there were gorgeous pieces of jewelry.
Not the gaudy mannequin.  haha.  I just snapped that photo
to give you a look.  The nice stuff was on the front tables in
glass cases and I didn't have time to take photos of them.
There were some lovely old brooches that went for up to $100.
And literally thousands of pieces of jewelry.
Fortunately I was busy working and that prevented me
from buying most of it myself. :)

The gold fur stole on the dress form below was parked right in front of me, calling my name.
And yeah, I had to bid and bring home so it could accompany me
to all of those black tie dinners The Mister has to go to!
It's in perfect condition and I paid $35.
It has a label inside from Rike's.  Any locals will remember that
Rike's, downtown, Dayton, Ohio was THE place to shop back in the day!
It has a pretty satin lining with the previous owner's monogram
stitched inside.

I also bid on these three rhinestone stretch band bracelets.
I'm keeping the top one, but might put the other two in my Etsy shop.
Can't wait to clean them up and see how sparkly they really are.
Won't I look all dolled up in my fur stole and sparkly bracelet?  Very fun!

And lastly, there was a rack of damaged furs.  I had intended to bid if they
were going for dirt cheap.  I thought it would be fun to make a couple of pillows out of a coat,
but I missed the bidding.  Well, remember the
guy that was inspecting the Barbie dolls so carefully?  He bought a rack
of them for $1 total!  And he gave me this one!  It has a rip near the shoulder
seam.  It's a full length mink and weighs a TON!  I'd fall over if I tried to wear
it!  haha.  So, it will be turned into pillows or a throw or maybe I'll sell it
just like it is and let someone else enjoy it.

Fun day all in all...even got home in time for dinner!
We had a frigid day again today but bright sunshine!
Happy Spring!

    1. no cow patties, I'm glad to report
and even give a sparkly retort!
I'd never wear that heavy fur
although it would prevent me from saying 'Brr!'. haha.

    1. Does she? Oh, that is cool! Did she push her babies in it or was she pushed in it herself?
I think they are beautiful. I think one would be great to own for baby showers...it would be beautiful full of wrapped gifts, wouldn't it?

    2. yes it would be neat to use it for gifts! cool idea! baby shower perhaps?

I'm not sure if she ever used it for us or if she has it because she collects antiques.

    1. I have that mink coat laying on the dining room take right now, just to see their reaction. So far, nobody has touched it. I imagined at least a few cats rolling around on it. haha.

  15. It is amazing what people buy and sell.;) Seems like you made some good deals.;) Have you read about that family that bought a bowl at a flea market for $3 and later made a fortune selling it for millions at an auction as it was a Chinese antique bowl? One day maybe you will have that kind of luck.;)
    Have a great weekend Betsy.;)

  17. Oh Betsy, how I would have loved to be there!! We just got an invitation for the wedding of some good old friends´daughter and I could make use of a lovely fur stole... I would not think of buying new fur, but these animals can´t be spared anyway. Does this sound frivolous to you? Anyway the wedding will be in June and hopefully it will have stopped snowing by then. Today it does snow again!
    Have a nice, cozy weekend!
