Auction Day

  1. It was about 40 degrees in the warehouse today and with the doors open all day, I was happy to see a heater by our cash table.  First time for that ever!  It made it tolerable, although we wore texting gloves, boots and coats all day...and drank lots of coffee! :)
  2. Loved the old lanterns.  I wanted to bid on some old rail road lanterns once for the boys' bedroom (train theme) but they went for a ton of money.  Old lanterns are always popular.
  3. A life-sized smurf was in the crowd today.  I could barely keep a straight face as I checked him out at the end of the day. :)
  4. Wanted this pedestal cake stand!  Too busy to bid or even notice when it was up for bid! ha.
  5. And look!  My not-so-secret admirer was there!  And yes, after being his cold and stern self, he smiled and paid me a sweet compliment.  Hilarious...and kind of endearing, too.
  6. I've showed you this man before.  He's always in his conductor hat.  My boys would love that.  Today, he bought an antique Japanese rifle.
  7. Cool old gas cans.
  8. Always lots of crystal!
  9. A huge collection of Longaberger baskets today.
  10. But by far, the most hilarious (to me) sight today was this man who carefully undressed about a dozen vintage Barbies and checked them out with a magnifying glass.  A-hem.  Yeah, I was cracking up.

Aren't you glad I got to people watch with my zoom lens in hand?  lol.

Brian, I know you'd be quite the gawker.  You'd write a cool poem instead of
making a cool photo collage. haha.

  1. What an interesting day! I remember using lanterns like that when I was 'knee high to a grasshopper'. I like that cake stand too. A perfect place for a beautiful dessert!

  5. Oh what fun...loved the Barbie Inspector. My brother's wife has an original Barbie Doll, and she's not giving it up!

    1. Ooh...it would be fun to know how much it is worth! I didn't get a chance to see if Mr. Inspector actually won any of those dolls! I think they were sold as a set..they were in a case.

    2. I really don't know if Becky has had it appraised... I'll find out. It also has all the original clothes. She was a neat little girl, if it were mine, I'm sure it would be in terrible shape. Although, I always like "Baby Dolls" better than the Barbie type.

  6. I'd do the photo collage too. Just take me to the beach and see what happens.

  9. Hey, was that guy peeping the Barbie dolls name Chester? lol

Man, those lanterns do sell for a hefty sum. I watch pickers all the time and have a good read on the cost of things.

Sounds like you guys had some fun despite the cold.

Did Barbie freeze her booty off?

    1. Chester? haha... Barbie must have been frozen because it was very cold in there. At least he dressed her again. ha.

  12. Oh my ... the guy checking out the babies is creepy! Did the Longaberger baskets sell? I have probably 150+ of them that I collected over several years and I'd love to sell them, although I've heard that there's not much interest in them any more. A friend of mine was a consultant for quite some time so I, of course, had to buy them to help her out...lol! And there was a group of us who made several trips to Dresden over the years, which we dubbed "the holy land". I wish now that I had the cash I put into them!

    1. That should have been "barbies" not "babies" -- though that would have been creepy too!

      Delete
    2. yeah, babies would have been worse! hahaha...a whole different kind of creepiness! lol! Actually, he's just looking at the serial numbers on their backs, but you probably knew that.

I've been to Dresden...fun place! When we were a double income-no kids couple, I'd buy them at parties, too. Fun. I only have 10 or so, though. :) It's hard to know what they would go for. You could look them up on ebay and see. I did notice a little berry basket went for $15 yesterday, which is probably about half the price you paid new, right? If you hang on to them, they will probably be in demand again and the prices will increase. Things do go in cycles I've noticed. Still... 150? I'd love to see them. My goodness, that's a lot of baskets! Very cool!

      Delete
    3. I think $15 is about half the original price and from what I've heard, that's pretty typical right now. Yeah, 150 is a lot of baskets, although some of my friends probably have more - we've often said we don't know what ever possessed us to accumulate so many! At the time I bought them I was working but when I left my job I decided that was an addiction I could no longer afford...lol! I'm sure hoping they'll become collectable again.

  13. What a lovely collage! I can't imagine being able to control my laughter seeing that guy with the Barbie in one hand and the magnifying glass in the other! You sure do see some sights don't you??? LOL Thanks for sharing -

  14. The post reminded me that my family became somewhat like lunatics when it came to Longaberger baskets. I even made one! It was a "thing" that was popular and nowadays I couldn't find one anywhere around the house. Of course that would be my fault because my wife is a secret hoarder and I toss things out that set around in the same spot too long. LOL. I like auctions but seldom go as I don't like to be out or cannot be out very long even with oxygen. So I watch the "Picker" program and "Storage Wars" and other programs that are like auctions.

    1. I've never watched Pickers! I guess I just AM a 'picker' hahaha. I really should look up that show. :)

  15. I just backed up to try and catch up with your posts that I've been missing. I will look for that cheese!! Loved the commentary on the new "restaurant" in town and the final picture of the restaurant critic flying off to beat his deadline and file the rave review on your new eatery. :) The basket was such a thoughtful and unique thank you gift. I always love your auction recaps, but "Barbie Man" will be a new favorite for awhile.
