I needed an extra chair in the living room and remembered
this one that was in the boys' TV room. The white paint
was fine. It even has some natural distressing on it. :)
But the fabric on the cushion was sporting some holes
and stains. So I removed Spencer's stack of train books
that it was holding and got out my girlie tools and
an old sweater that was in a bag to go to the thrift store.
I removed the seat and the old fabric and cut out the front of the sweater.
Fishy was added by Jack, faithful kitty, always willing to help. :)
Then I used my staple gun to attach the fabric to the seat
and my power screw driver to attach the seat back to the chair.
It fits perfectly in this spot and provides an additional
seat in this room if we need it.
Much fresher! And it cost nothing!
The French Market Basket came in from the front porch after
the holidays and is holding some big sugar pine cones.
I'm enjoying the way this corner looks!
I have to tell you, though, that when the boys came home from
school, Spencer immediately noticed the chair and tossed the
pillow to the floor and whisked the chair back down the hall
to hold his stack of train books.
But mom won and said she had reclaimed the chair.
He would have to do without! ha.
So when I wasn't looking, he stole the kitchen stool. :)
♥
seriously betsy...you are like the craft queen..so if i send you some random old things can you make something cool out of it? i think we could maybe make a TV show about it too...smiles.
ReplyDeletesure...you have my address :) and hey..The Brian and Betsy Show has a nice ring to it. lol....
DeleteI would watch! sounds way better than the other stuff on TV.
Deleteand I love that term "natural distressing" I think everything in my home has some natural distressing.
oh that looks great! and it's always more fun when it's free! Spencer's story makes me smile :)
ReplyDeletevery sorry to see that you are not feeling well! know the feeling all too well because that was me for about a week and a half. no fun! get better soon!
Deletefree is fabulous! haha.
Deleteand thank you...I'm feeling SO much better already! I took a ton of vitamin C, gargled a million times yesterday and drank gallons of water. It must have done the trick..my symptoms are practially gone!
and I made chicken soup last night...I read that it isn't a wive's tale anymore about it healing a cold and that there really are scientific properties to it..or something like that. haha.
DeleteI did a double-take when I saw the image of your chair ... I have one at my desk just like yours, the only difference being the back design. My chair used to belong to my in-laws and was purchased in the early 40s. It has been painted, covered and re-covered, repaired more times than I can even estimate. Yours looks great. Right now, mine is green ... before that it was black, before that white, before that blue and I cannot remember back any farther.
ReplyDeleteoh, that's funny! Well, I was the first to paint this chair...it was just the original dark stain on it. But the fabric has been changed out on the seat about 8 times. haha
DeleteThe chair look amazing, I think like Brian LOL you are the queen in this but I find the sweater lovely!!!!
ReplyDeletelove this type of sweater!!
yes, it was a lovely sweater. I love cable-knit! But it was too big! Now I can enjoy it this way!
Deletelove cable knit too!!
DeleteLOL you twin has a point
ReplyDeleteCan make anything at your joint
The chair got a great makeover at your lair
I bet the stool thinks, "no fair"
I tried to take the stool back
Deletebut spencer won that attack.
So until I need to reach something up high
I guess he can keep it. Sigh.
haha.
hahaha have to make him his own picture holder thing
DeleteSure you could construct something at your wing
The chair looks just perfect in that corner...As usual, I'm laughing as I picture the pillow being thrown, and the chair getting back to the train room....and back to the living room...then the stool. Oh what a story..only video would make it better.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a couple of chairs at the thrift store I would love to redo....but where would I put them...my little house is already wall to wall....
I did laugh at Spencer. He was SO quick about it! I moved the stool back to the kitchen but it's already gone again. :)
DeleteWith your family growing, you should be on the look out,
ReplyDeletefor few more chairs to add to your collection.
And Free is a great price!
free is always good! :)
DeleteCan't wait to see what else you do with sweaters!
ReplyDeleteI have a couple more ideas! :)
DeleteSpencer has a use more important than just decorating for that chair...love that. Do you ever just do nothing? (o:
ReplyDeleteyeah, I read blogs. :)
DeleteGreat idea, Betsy...
ReplyDeleteHopefully it will stay in the living room..hahaha...
I guess the thrift shop bag needs a second look, eh???
Sometimes I have regrets about what I donate...but it soon passes..
You certainly put that sweater to good use...
Glad to hear you are feeling better...
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Gotta love a girl who knows how to use her tools. :)
ReplyDeleteI think your next project needs to be a shelf to hold Spencer's train books.
haha...that shelf would have to hold a lot of weight! lol....
DeleteThe the sweater cover looks really comfy. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many things to do with an old sweater! Fun, fun!
DeleteWhat a cool idea to use a sweater as a new chair cover! It looks fantastic and like it can hold up to a lot of use. Maybe you can get a new chair for Spencer at a future auction?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the best wishes for our new granddaughter! We agree that she looks a lot like her dad! :)
Pottery Barn has pillows that look exactly like that cable knit sweater. So easy to make if you have an old sweater!
DeleteI agree. The corner looks very nice with the addition of your newly refurbished and quite wonderful chair. I'm glad you were able to reclaim it from Spencer...funny story. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat boy keeps me on my toes! ha. And he not only has his father's stubborness, but his mother's, too! Oh dear. lol...
DeleteLOL! Stolen stool in place of a chair. I get it. LOL! I DO love that chaircover, Betsy!!! Great look. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteand you could just knit your own! :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful job you did! I only wish I was so crafty. The sweater was a great idea!!! I have lots of ideas, but seldom do they come to fruition. I must not let myself be so distracted.
ReplyDeleteThis take NO talent, believe me! Every time I pin something on Pinterest, I say to myself, "Now, you need to actually do it...or make it...or bake it... lol...
DeleteThere used to be a saying: "There is more than one way to skin a cat." It reminded me that Spencer was going to get a stool, chair or something to hold his collection of books. And he did. I like what you did with the chair. I used to do a lot of that but not in years.
ReplyDeleteYes, he can be very resourceful! :) Thanks, Abe...glad you stopped by!
DeleteYou are so clever, Betsy. The chair looks great and I had to laugh at the mental image of Spencer running off with it! And how sweet that Jack wanted to share his fishy with you!
ReplyDeleteJack is always there to lend a hand. lol. And yes, Spencer always makes me laugh!
DeleteI cracked up laughing when you said he stole the stool instead. :) I love what you did Betsy! And I am really in love with your French market basket. I am on the hunt for one. xoxo HappyWeekend
ReplyDeleteI already needed that stool once, too! haha. I got my market basket at an auction...love it!
DeleteAren't you clever!!! it looks wonderful - great idea :)
