A Little Bird Painting

I had so much fun giving that sign a makeover yesterday
than I decided to try a little more painting!
I had brought home some stained pieces of wood
from an auction that were just about the right size.
They were beveled and I sanded the inside part so the
paint would stick better.  Then I put a coat of white paint
and then a coat of black mixed with white.

When that was dry I started sketching in pencil.

First, I painted the shadows and leaves.

Then the nest and some bees!

berries...

and then the birds.

It's so 'me', isn't it?  ha.
I'm not sure about the stained 'frame' though.
Should I paint it, too?
I'm thinking black paint.  Or should I leave it as it is?

Once I decide, it's going in the shop!

update...

Oh, so much better.  Thanks for your help!
In the shop today!

  13. I'm with some of the others, voting for a black frame, but I am sooo not an artist. I've been painting over the weekend but nothing to do with art. Decided to paint my front door & shutters. The beautiful fall weather in PA inspired me. Now I need to get a new fall wreath

  14. Another beautiful work of art! As much as I like a natural wood look, I agree that either a black or charcoal gray frame would look great with this.

    1. Yes, I do agree,...I think the wood tone is too distracting! Tomorrow it will change! Thanks for the input!

  19. Oh, I didn't even know you had a shop! That painting is beautiful, sweet, and full of adorable. You are so talented. I'll bet I would find all sorts of "props" if I tagged along with you to all of those auctions.

  20. I thought I had posted a comment yesterday but I guess it got lost on blogger somewhere. Anyway thought the pic was beautiful and I was voting for the charcoal gray. Black was too stark possibly and the wood does make it look like it is in a frame. I think I suggested painting some tape and putting that around it and to see how it looked. I hate when I lost my comments. Maybe it went on another post.

    God bless.

    1. well, I didn't see a comment...it must be out in cyberspace somewhere! Blogger does love to eat them, you know! ;) Yes, it is charcoal grey...the first coat is drying and it already looks much, much better!
I set up my pinterest last night...thanks for your tips on doing that! And yes, it sucked me in for a few hours! haha...so fun!

    2. I opened mine up and saw all your pins and I was thinking "oh my, she had to have spent a couple of hours here!" LOL. It is fun. I am trying to make the Crusty Bread right now, and it takes 12 - 18 hours for it to rise. I can't sleep because I keep getting up every hour to see if it has risen at all. So slow, it is like trying to watch water boil. Will let you know how it does. It is a "no knead" bread and the site has had over a million hits for the recipe since posted in March. And you can add lots of different ingredients to make all kinds of flavored breads. Easier than the Bread Machine.

Can't wait to see the Charcoal Gray on it.

      God bless.

    3. the bread sounds good!

a watched pot never boils, you know...or maybe we should say a watched loaf never rises? lol....
