Here's what greeted us on the back porch this morning.
Four new little fluff balls!
Velvet, looks pretty proud, doesn't she?
The Mister went out to feed our regular group (herd?) and they all
scampered into the bushes. Velvet stayed and ate.
Velvet has been limping the last few days and this evening I could see why.
She has an infected gash on one of her front legs. Hmmm. She won't let me
within two feet of her, of course, so how do you treat a wound like that without loosing your own hand? ha ha.
Well, I tried to get a dab of
Neosporin on it while she was distracted with eating but it didn't stick.
So, I resorted to a spray of Colloidal Silver (a natural antibiotic and immune support supplement)
which I was successful in getting
at least two sprays on her leg. Maybe I can do that for a few days
and help it heal.
Aren't those kittens cute? Would you believe The Mister already said
he wants to keep that dark grey fluffy one? Maybe he's the Crazy Cat Man?
And for anyone new to my blog, no, I didn't ask for 14 cats!
I befriended a starving stray cat that brought her litter to me last year.
Four months later another mom brought her litter.
We fed them, provided
shelter on our back porch, had them spayed and neutered, and they got their shots.
I figured if I kept at this, we could get the stray cat population
under control in our neighborhood.
Then we had a malnourished little baby brought to us in June that we nursed back to health,
which we named Jack. And now this! :)
All of them have stayed except for the first mama and one from that
first litter. I have no idea what happened to them!
Maybe we should move out to a farm with land.
One good thing...we don't have mice or moles!
And they have all been very sweet pets!
So before Pat can say it, I officially have taken the crown from
his nanny, who has a dozen cats. Sorry, Nanny!
I didn't mean to take the title...it was forced upon at me! lol.
But mine aren't all inside, thank goodness! ha.
♥
My neighbor who is a good friend too, has 12 cats she keeps inside. Her story is similar to your story in that she friends the strays, has them fixed, gives them shelter. First on her porch, then in her garage and before you know it, in her house. And once they are in there, she doesn't let them back outside. She spends tons of money on them, she is always catching the feral cats to get them fix, many times spending her money to get it done. Finally, I think I have her convince that she might need to take some of the feral cats to the shelter.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a crazy cat woman ;o)
haha...oh yeah, that makes me feel a little more sane. :) I do let mine inside if they want..and the baby Jack is just big enough to be out without me fearing a hawk will carry him away. ha. But he's not allowed out at night yet. Since mine all grew up outside, I think they prefer it. We'll see if they decide differently this winter. :) Although I spoiled them with a heated little house out on the porch (electric blanket inside) ha. The thing I don't like is the litter box. So, if they want to be outside, that's fine with me. haha.
DeleteThe neighbor has a heated water bowl for her 'outdoor' cats so that their drinking water won't freeze in the winter. Funny thing about it: it's not uncommon to see a raccoon or two in it too. We called it the raccoon's own personal Jacuzzi ;o)
DeleteOh, yes, I've seen those bowls! We do have to occasional raccoon, too...or families of them. They caused such a commotion, though, and were mean....we've trapped several and relocated them. We had a skunk, too, which thankfully seems to have relocated himself! hahaha.
DeleteLOVE the kitten pictures! Hope your city doesn't have laws limiting the number of animals you can have.
ReplyDeleteAre they all technically mine if they live outside and come and go as they please? It would be hard to officially charge me for anything except controlling the feral cat population.
DeleteWell.... there was another infamous "CatWoman" that was a foe to Batman. Are you shooting for that title now?? The CatWoman of Ohio! There you go!
ReplyDeleteI really just want to be Wonder Woman. Did she have cats? lol.....
Deletehahahaha yes you have the crown
ReplyDeleteI think now it is well known all over town
And they are cute as well
Still find it quite amusing you have so many at your cell
All young ones too
You should move to a farm and have a kitty zoo
You could teach them to march two by two
And put on shoes for all to view haha
Oh you and gloria just seconds apart!!!!
DeleteMarmalade can make them march and sway
Deletethey follow him like they're in a parade!
And I like the shoe idea, too
but let's go with Puss In Boots
Watching me put them on should be a hoot!
hahahaha.
LOL damn that should be show
DeleteIt was late here you know
And pfft I still beat her
Gloria can't beat my spotted fur
Yep, a movie reference you did miss
Deletebut don't pout or even hiss
since it was later there
I'll give you a pass at your lair.
ha.
OH MY dear Betsy are soooo cute! are you sure dear? well wi these litte faces looking you lol
ReplyDeleteIm sure these cats that live in your house tell to all cats people they can go or they invited lol
No wonder woman doesnt have cats but the catgirl or cat woman yes!But never have all these you have lol

psst what said the Mr.?
I know I read again and the Mr. is ok so you both are the same LOL
DeleteBetsy: He follows me !! hahaa
Deleteyeah, The Mister got me out of bed to come and see them. And he thinks they are cute...especially that dark grey one! hahaha. But it would be different if we had 14 sitting on the couch with us. LOL! Oh my. hahaha.
DeleteWonder Woman didn't have cats? Something is just wrong there! ha.
Yes, I think they spread the news in teh neighborhood that I will feed them. ha.
Follows you? hahaha...well, cats do that, you know!
DeleteI love the dark grey too so please tell the Mr. he has to care him so much:)
DeleteI think Velvet say yes more cats OMYGOD LOL
DeletePerhaps you could pop one or two into a gift basket?
ReplyDeletehaha...or I could send a couple to you when college students come home for Thanksgiving! :)
DeleteIf only I needed a kitten.
DeleteOh, you DO! You NEED one...or two.....lol...everybody does! hahaha.
DeleteYou may be crazy, but they sure are cute!
ReplyDeleteAren't they? Awwww. :)
Deleteomg betsy...haha...'hey are you the lady that takes care of us' 'someone told us to sit here and it would be ok.' 'you are not going to clip our ears like the others are you?'
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! No, I promise you can keep both of your ears! But other parts will be snipped! hahahahaha. And how can I resist your sweet faces! ha.
DeleteHow could anyone resist when they look at you with the look they are giving. It is almost as if they are looking at you with a look that says: "Hey are you my human Mommy? Are you going to take care of me from now on. I heard you were the 'one'." And they are right, they are are some very lucky kittens. I hope you are able to get this next group to the vets to get fixed. The Humane Society should be giving you a group discount by now. LOL We all thank you for doing such a great service for the cat population in the world.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
:
Those expressions were priceless, weren't they? haha. I'm sure we'll get them fixed soon enough. I mean, if I can do 9, and can do 5 more, right? lol.... I think I have trapping them down to a good system, so it will be easier now.
DeleteOh my! That is all I can think or say! They are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour other rescuees must be spreading the word!
It kind of reminds me of the classic 100 Dalmatians and their gossip chain. I'm sure cats have one, too! lol.... "Go to the Brocks! She will love and feed you!" hahahaha....
DeleteI'm wondering when you will start drawing kittens into your bird pictures... HaHa...those new ones are adorable.
ReplyDeleteI really should try, shouldn't I? Maybe I should draw Nugget first, so he won't be jealous. :)
DeleteRight...there are priorities.... Nugget first. You Zoo is bigger than Jill's now. Haha
DeleteOh, my! Your kitty population keeps multiplying! These latest arrivals are very cute.
ReplyDeleteOh my is right! Can you imagine how many there would be if I wasn't getting them fixed?
DeleteIn some municipalities if you feed a cat for a week it is considered yours. I have been feeding several 'foreclosure' kitties that have been left behind but I don't consider them mine. Other neighbors have also taken to caring for them which helps. I have my own inside kitties too. 12 years ago I had never lived with a cat and now I have gone over the edge like you! After an expensive vet bill for one of the 'strays' here someone told me about fish antibiotics. You can get them at pet supply stores and they don't cost a lot. They have worked for a couple cats with abcesses and saved vet bills. One problem with having all the strays though is we have less birds than we used to. good luck with your new brood.
ReplyDeletetaria
Hi Taria. Thanks for your comment. Yes, I'm sure they would be considered mine, and I was really joking with my comment above. I do claim them and care for them but if they run off, I won't be out searching for them. I do have probiotics for my parakeets which I've occasionally given the cats. I'll look into the fish ones and do that...thanks for the suggestion...that's a great idea. Once the cats trust me and let me pet them, it's easier to care for any hurts. I feel bad for this mom who I can't get close to. Her leg looks bad. :( Best of luck with your little herd, too! haha.
DeleteLol! Glad you are finally recognizing what the rest of us have known for awhile "cat lady". ;) I love how you rescue and love them, Betsy!! Warms my heart as I am catching up this morning. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteaw, you're nice to leave out the 'crazy' lol....
DeleteYou're such a softie. Don't ever change.
ReplyDeleteThank you for loving these animals that might otherwise be forgotten.
well, how can I not? Just look at those faces!! :)
Deleteand it is difficult not to be crazy with such a cute kittens! Funny how they all look at the camera!
ReplyDeleteI know...it was very funny...more curiosity than anything, I'm sure but made for a good photo! :)
DeleteThey have already perfected that 'melt your heart' look, I see. What lovely soft greys they all are.
ReplyDeleteand you know how I love grey...oh my. ;)
DeleteThis is just another reason to love you! You are the best & I know these kitties must agree.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, Bette...I might load up the jeep, drive south and find you to give you a few 'gifts' hahahaha :)
DeleteYou wear the crown well!
ReplyDeleteSnicker-snicker, Cat Lady!
Gray Fluff is adorable.
haha...(she says as she straightens her crown) :)
Deleteyes, that one is the cutest...oh my. He/she just looks like he's full of personality!
So stinkin cute!!! I'm trying to convince Josh he needs one...he likes the little grey fluffy one! I told him he can't have that one cause it needs to stay at your house so I can enjoy it :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's the one J. wants, too! You three can fight over him/her. haha.
DeleteOh my gosh Betsy - you have such a huge heart - I'm afraid I would be just like you - however my husband has all he can handle with two dogs and a cat. (he is not so much of an animal guy. If we had more room, I would gladly welcome more!) Our cat, Teddy, is gray - looks just like the grays in your most adorable picture! I wish I could take one for you - ever passing through Iowa...... Kelley
ReplyDeletehaha...Iowa...ok...I'll remember that! :) We had a cat named Teddy once. The best cat ever. :) He lived 16 years and died on my birthday several years ago. :( Dogs are the one pet we've never had!
DeleteHow adorable....
ReplyDeletearen't they? awww....
DeleteLove these kittens! You have a huge heart as does your husband! We recently (2years ago) got a rescue kitten- a Siamese from Craig's list! They neutered him before we received him home and my boys would love at least one more! But Yoda is an alpha male and does not play well with others lol! I think he has kitty Asperger's because he has so many of my older son's traits! I'm assuming your boys love the cats too? Blessings!
ReplyDeletekitty aspergers...hahahaha! Actually, my autistic boys don't care for the pets. They don't mind them being around but don't want to touch them or play with them. They do not like dogs, though, and we don't have any of those. Our rabbit, though, loves the boys and hangs out in whatever room they happen to be in! ha.
DeleteThis new litter hangs out under my folks' deck! THEY are darling! Okay.. Betsy...I think an intervention is coming!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow I know! At least they are safe there! I'm sure they'll be over to eat again soon! :)
