Better know as the Red-Spotted Purple Butterfly!
Although, I think he looks blue!
Although, I think he looks blue!
He was flying around my backyard!
And the best part of this photo shoot was that right after I
snapped this photo, he flew over and sat on my shoulder!
I talked to him for a minute and he was very content to stay,
until I turned the camera around to take his picture there.
Then he flew off for the flowers again!
♥
Very pretty! I love that he sat on your shoulder even if you didn't get a picture.
ReplyDeleteOn Monday morning of our vacation there were 2 "gifts" outside the door, a beautiful green Luna moth and a giant Cecropia moth, one on either side of the door. Totally awesome!
I loved that he sat on my shoulder, too! Made me feel kind of special! ha. Now, those two moths...I've never seen either of them in person. Wow...that would be so neat! Did you get photos?
DeleteYes, I did take photos. I will post them soon.
DeleteOh fun! Can't wait! Both of the Marthas are snapping photos of moths. :)
DeleteThe Lunas are intriguing and beautiful! So neat that you got to see one! They are often hard to spot when they sit on plants. Lucky you!
DeleteI want a Luna! I want a Luna! lol.....
DeleteHe is a beauty! I agree that he looks blue.
ReplyDeleteEven the butterfly identification site I used had it under the blue ones! :)
DeleteI'm not sure I have ever seen this one before...very attractive...and yes, it looks blue
ReplyDeleteSaw a few Monarchs this weekend...
Hope you enjoy the rest of your evening...
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Monarchs...nice! I love them! Haven't seen too many in recent years...and none so far this summer!
Deletereally???
Deleteour cottage is on their migration route...so, in the Fall it gets pretty crazy out there...
I guess Cedarville, Ohio isn't one of their scheduled pit stops. lol....
DeleteBeautiful! So neat that he sat on your shoulder :) I snapped a photo of a pretty orange moth on the laundry hanging on the line today. One I had never seen before.
ReplyDeleteDid you find out it's name? There are some fun, easy-to-use identification sites online. It's fun to see some new ones!
DeleteNo haven't taken time for it yet but I want to. I thought of you when I saw it. Remembered that you post pics of winged critters like that now and then :)
DeleteYeah, this one had a happier ending. landing on my shoulder is much better than watching Marmalade swallow him! lol....
DeleteIs it hot enough for you? Some people around us don't have power. I'm so thankful that we do.
Our next door neighbor lost a huge tree in the storms last evening!
Yes it's quite warm here. So thankful for AC!! No storms here, though we need rain! I keep watering the new grass in hopes it will survive. My sister in law lives in Antrim, Ohio (near Zanesville) they were told they probably won't get the power back on till Friday! Yikes! Glad you guys still have yours on!
DeleteOh, I know. So very thankful for a/c. Oh my. We needed rain, too...still could use some more. It's very dry! Our whole yard is brown and crunchy. No power til Friday? Oh, that's awful.
DeleteBrown and Crunchy?! Wow! We're not quite that dry. Here and there is a cornfield with spikey corn but the yards are still green.
Deleteyeah, I hate brown crunchy grass! We could use a week of rain! I think the heat just advanced the seriousness of it.
DeleteWow I thought you caught some weird disease
ReplyDeleteWorse than fleas on knees hahaha
Then I though it was a bird
That name is just absurd
For a butterfly
That if the cat were to spy
He would eat
Like a tasty treat
Nice to look at though
Hopefully avoided the cats at your show
If we only knew Latin
Deletethose names wouldn't be so strat'n
lol.
Oh, my cats would love him for dessert
or maybe an appetizer, with a burp.
hahaha.
Yeah let's get on that
DeleteAnd then I'll be a latin speaking cat
That would surely confuse
And more would say strat and abuse haha
If you learned Latin, you could be a doctor, too!
Deleteand make more buckaroos!
or loonies and toonies, as you say
up there in the nova scotia bay.
lol....
now that was a moment,,,,
ReplyDeleteI know...so fun! Wish I got that photo, though!
DeleteThis is the more beauty time to butterflies this s amazing!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are lucky than can take the shot Betsy lol
He posed very nicely, didn't he? :)
DeleteAnd is nice you can take the picture, here in sp<ring I always see butterflies but is so diffiuclt take a shot!
DeleteYes, you kind of have to wait until they land and then take it quickly! I took a few that were blurry because he was moving! ha.
DeleteI have to try for spring maybe!
DeleteThis is probably not going to come to a shock to you, but I'm petrified of butterflies!!! I admire your ability to speak to them though ;) lol
ReplyDeleteJax you dont like butterflies???
DeleteI am not shocked, Jax...in a way, they are kind of like birds! haha. I'm a little creeped out by moths...but not butterflies!
DeleteNo, I don't like butterflies!!!! They scare me. They flutter about all beautiful until you get too close, and then they ATTACK!!!
Deleteattack? lol.....I think you're getting butterflies mixed up with creepy men at the gas station! So, you wouldn't have let a butterfly sit on your shoulder! I bet it's a sign of good luck or something! :)
DeleteJax has problems with strawberriea and butterflies lol
DeleteBetsy I like whe butterflies in my shoulder or my hair. Ha!
DeleteOh Jax you are soooo funny!
Strawberries?
that must mean your hair smells like flowers, Gloria! :)
DeleteWOW! Now that's even better than the tomato photo!
ReplyDeleteWhy thanks, Silver. You know, he actually looks a lot like your avatar there. Was that you trying not to be recognized? lol....
DeleteWell, it wouldn't be the first disguise I've worn, especially around your place...
DeleteIs that so?
DeleteI've found that they work even better than hidden cameras, yeah...
DeleteSo beautiful...I have a couple of note cards with butterflies...This looks like one I'd like to paint. Sitting on your shoulder, now that is special, picture or not...that's special!!
ReplyDeletehe would make a beautiful painting! I love his coloring. I know..I loved that he sat on my shoulder! So fun!
DeleteWould you mind if I make a copy and try a painting?
DeleteNo, of course not! Can't wait to see it!
DeleteNow that's a magic moment :)
ReplyDeleteIt was! :)
DeleteOh, Betsy, I love the treatment on this photo. Glorious! To have a butterfly whispering in your ear...what fun!
ReplyDeleteIt was SO neat! I really wish I could have snapped a photo!
DeleteA true Dr. Doolittle moment!
ReplyDeletehaha..oh that is SO true! lol.....
DeleteOh wow!! Oh what a priveledge!! What a beautiful butterfly to visit you! Yay! Take care
ReplyDeletex
SO fun! I hope he comes back!
DeleteYou were chosen. And a most excellent photo.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about butterflies in my garden and the fact that I haven't seen many. Maybe I need to plant flowers just to attract them.
Debber I try to stopping by at your blog but I cant. Have problems?

ReplyDeletethank you, alida! :)
DeleteSuch a beautiful butterfly...love the markings. Another great photo.
ReplyDeletereally pretty, isn't it? A new one to me, too!
DeleteAt first I thought to myself, what on earth is she talking about and if this is some sort of 'new' English. You remember when new math rolled in... it bamboozled most of us.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty colours!
haha,..oh, I know! I'm so glad to be done with biology and all of those crazy names...not that I remember any of them except lepidoptera!
DeleteHi Gloria. Just call me Deb, please. Or debber, if you prefer. I got your message and I hope that you might re-try to make an account on the blog. We've been having a few technical difficulties for a while now but I believe they've been solved.
ReplyDeleteYes, Betsy that wonderful WARNING message is now gone. Thank u for being the go-between here for Gloria and me.
Is it? Ok...it was there yesterday when I commented! Glad you got that worked out! :)
DeleteYes, just this afternoon it got fixed. It was some evil plugin that hinder several things from operating. I'm sure everyone will be glad it's worked out. Sorry for that pain but you were patient and I appreciate that.
DeleteThanks Deb I will try again:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Betsy. :)
Great! See you there. :)
DeleteTOTALLY. JEALOUS. (0:
ReplyDeletethat coming from you ...Ms. Professional Photographer...is the very best compliment! :)
DeleteThis is one of those once in a lifetime shots, absolutely stunning. I rarely see colourful butterflies here, it must be our cold climate.;))
