Random Thoughts and Giveaway Winner

  1. The Mister and I were out for dinner and a little shopping Saturday night and I got a little honey suckle scented candle at the Pottery Barn Outlet.  Mmmmm. Smells wonderful.
  2. I licked an envelope to seal it and got a paper cut on my lip.  It does not feel wonderful. lol.
  3. I can tell it is officially summer because my last few cups of coffee get poured over ice!
  4. We have a lovely new pool up in the back yard.  So far, Spencer has been the only one to get in it.  Autism is a hard thing to figure out.  ha ha.  But they will get there.  They have loved it in past years.  Some times I think their brains tell them 'no' even when they really want to do something.  It's also hard to break away from the electronics obsession.  The weather is cooperating, though..hot and humid!
  5. I made a Fudge Upside Down Cake for Father's Day.  Rich, dark, ooey and gooey.  Best served warm with ice cream. I'll share the recipe later this week.  Having a piece every night after dinner is making me run extra on the treadmill. ha ha.
  6. I live with 5 men and 4 of them are hoarders.  Alex is the opposite, throwing out things we need...like unopened mail, tissues as you are trying to use them and important forms waiting for our signatures.  The Mister is a hoarder, though.  He bought 3 pairs of shoes (much needed, btw) Saturday and on the way home, I said, "I hope you're going to throw out three pairs from your closet when you get home!"  He gave me a weird look and I said.."At least the ones on the top shoe shelf that have an inch of dust on them...proving that you haven't worn them in over a year!"  Well, he picked out two to throw out and was wavering on the third pair until I rolled my eyes.  haha.  Finally, he had the courage.  lol.  Geesh!  I have to get tough or we're going to end up on that show!  haha. And Jax, you know how we were talking about 'two shoe' guys?  He is not one of them!  He missed that memo! lol.
  7. Spencer went to Sam's Club with me tonight.  I'm exhausted. lol.  I'll give him his own post about it soon. :)
AND THE GIVEAWAY WINNER IS.....

  6. I think I can smell that candle...the little stream of smoke adds to the picture doesn't it? Congratulations to Magpie..it's always fun to win a giveaway. I just ordered some of my watercolor cards, as I've been out...and to lazy to order more. I think I'll do another Watercolor Note Card Giveaway. I always enjoyed doing that. I added a couple of some of my CT art...we'll see how they turned out.

I went back to the YMCA today....but can I tell I've been off a couple of weeks. We did a lot of walking, but it's not the same.
    Sending love...

Back to the Y...after vacation...and reality hits. lol. You catch up again soon. I took a couple of months off from my treadmill and got back on last week. Whoa. That first couple of days was awful. hahaha.

I'm enjoying the candle...a new scent for me and it's lovely for summer!

    2. I've been thinking about planting some honey suckle on my back fence...I have a large bare spot, and I do love the smell...but I know it will bring bees, and my grandkids don't like bees...we'll see.....honey suckle or grandkids...mmmm!

  7. I won! What fun! I'm smiling from ear to ear. Thank you for hosting such a wonderful party. I know everyone who participated had a fun time.
A honeysuckle candle really sounds inviting. I use a candle warmer and have been "warming" Citrus Cream and it's heavenly.

    1. I'm so glad you won! Your little treat will be in the mail this week! :) Citrus Cream sounds wonderful and summery. I've never had a candle warmer...sounds interesting...it melts it, right? I think I've seen them.

  9. LOL! I need you here to "get tough" with me about throwing out old clothes/shoes. My hubbie does a great job of that... I on the other hand, well he quotes a line from Lonesome Dove about Deets, "... doesn't give up on a garment just because its got a little age on it." LOL! Hate paper cuts!

Love all shades of gray these days... used to hate it. Go figure. Great drawing. blessings ~ tanna

    1. Oh, don't get me wrong...I love age on anything..even clothes! But if it's not wearable because of size, damage or taste, then it needs to go and make room for something else!

  10. Yikes!! Hope your cut lip is healing ok now! Oh your fudge cake sounds gorgeous!!!

  11. That candle scent sounds lovely! I've known a few hoarders in my lifetime :) I try not to be one of them though. It's such a pain to try and find room for everything! Much easier to just give it away, have a yard sale or take it to the thrift store. The last being the most fun because then I can browse and find new treasures. haha, vicious cycle!

    ReplyDelete

    1. a vicious cycle, yes...but that's better than never moving things out! haha. My house borders on the cluttered look, but I have come a long way in purging it of stuff we don't need, use, or want any longer. Thrift store shopping is my favorite thing to do! Well, that and picking through the auction leftovers!

    2. I know, me too. It's where you find the unusual things that have the character that I like. Brand new things just don't quite cut it, unless they are made to look old. :)

  12. Can't say in the cake
    I would partake
Still not liking such mushy things much
and or course ice cream with the scary dairy and such
And a paper cut on the lip
    Blah that is not hip
    Beats a numb tongue though
Yeah I'll never let that go
A hoarder I can be at times I suppose
But then when the wind blows
    Out the things go
And I make room at my show
Two shoes are all I have as well
    That is just swell
    Although new must be bought
Learned that as my 7 year old pair was making my feet rot..lol
And a candle with cats would never do
As Orlin would knock it over on cue
At least then the place would burn down
And I could take the insurance money and move to a better town hahaha

    1. yeah, the cake is really gooey
and would make you say pooey.
Had to put the candle up high
on top of the china cabinet near the sky.
Wouldn't want any whiskers to be singed
or noses toasted here at my bend! haha

      Delete
    2. Yeah that they would do
Acting like they didn't have a clue
      As curiosity came to be
And they become singed at your sea

      Delete
    3. I always have to be on my toes
between the boys and the cats, a flame could really cause woes! ha.
and although you'd like to torch your scene
I rather like my zoo and want to keep it flame free!
      lol.

  13. I had to laugh at the "I live with hoarders" part because my husband is the same way. He hates to part with certain things for fear he may need them the second he throws it out. And, shoes...don't get me started! He is a size 13/14 so it's difficult for him to find anything that will fit so he hates to part with them once he finds them LOL

    1. Now those are some big shoes! All the more reason not to have unworn pairs taking up closet space! haha.

  14. I've licked an envelope and got a paper cut--owie!

I think Alex should come and help me clean closets--he could throw everything away, and I wouldn't be tempted to keep things I shouldn't. hahaha

    1. yep, yep! He's help out a lot! hahaha...and if you didn't have anything to throw away, he'd 'create' some things to toss, too! :) When shall I send him up there? hee.

    2. I hate clean closets too! Maybe I need Alex too LOL

  17. Regarding the pool, I have a feeling that if you can coax your boys in one time, they will enjoy it and want to use it again and again. My son tends to obsess about things, but in spurts. He can do something over and over for weeks, then not do it for months. But once he is reintroduced to it, he will be right back to doing it all the time. It is a great summer for having a pool!

I am a hoarder. Don't throw out my stuff... never know when I might need that thing I haven't touched in 20 years. :)

    1. Well, Yuji...they are in there as I type this! :) I had to force them in! haha. Spencer and Harry went fairy willingly and I had to push Alex up each step of the ladder. Then I stood guard on the ladder and told them they "were going to have fun!" lol. Harry was immediately happy, Spencer warmed up to it in a few minutes and Alex finally smiled after Taylor arrived and got in with them.

I think you're right...after they do it once, it will be easier. It's just a hurdle they have to overcome...sometimes many times and without reason. But all are wet and getting a little sun. Nice!
The water felt great on my hands...tomorrow I'll have to get in with them!

      Delete
    2. Great! Sometimes they just need a little nudge. :) Sounds like they are enjoying it, and hopefully will go in more willingly next time.

      Delete
    3. Yes, and I did think of Kai and those big water slides. :)

Little nudge? haha...you should have seen me 'nudging' Alex. He's so much bigger than me and was quite stubborn. lol. But they all ended up staying out much longer than I expected. The first time is the worst...tomorrow they will probably stay out long enough to need sunscreen! :)

      Delete
    4. Haha, I can just picture you 'nudging' Alex. I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't get them back inside once they start getting used to this.

  18. Congratulations Magpie!

Betsy, you throw the best parties. My blue toes have been a hit with all the high school girls.
What a way to go out! Would never of painted them blue if it weren't for your party.

    1. Oh, I bet they have been a hit! And you know, I'm really loving my blue ones, too! I never would have dreamed that I would not only paint them blue, but end up loving them! I bet the girls think you are SO hip. :)

We'll do a couple more through out the summer. What daring color should we try next? lol....

  19. Betsy, you are so awesome. I don't know how you do all you do and always keep such a great attitude. I could really learn from you. That's funny you say 2 of the boys are hoarders because I think Parker would be too. He wants to save every paper from school and has enough movies to run a video store, lol. The cake you made sounds really good.
