1. Spencer was excited to take a trip to Sam's Club with me to get the weekly
groceries. It's a pleasant drive through the country to get there! We saw
fields being plowed.
2. Here he's all buckled up and ready to go. When I asked if he wanted to buy something, he nodded and said, "DVD's" or "dee-dee" is what he sounds like. :)
3. Normally, he's very good about getting all through our list and then we go to
the DVD aisle. We were putting things in the cart and he was finding their name
on my list and watching me cross off each item. I could tell he was antsy to get to the fun stuff and kept trying to walk away from me. I made him help me push the cart, mainly to keep him attached to it! ha. But half way through, I turned away for one second and he was gone! You know that instant dread and panic you feel when your child is gone in a public place? For the first time ever, I didn't have it! I immediately thought, "That Stinker! Grrrr!" lol....and scanned the store for that yellow ball cap (put on him specifically for quick identification)! He was already on the other side of the store looking at the movies!
4. He quickly found 3 sets of DVDs about trains. I'm so glad they had some! Have I ever told you about the time our whole family was shopping and there wasn't a single train DVD? Not even a Thomas the Tank Engine? The boys were about 10 years old. All three threw a royal fit, actually laid down on the floor in protest at the checkout lane and screamed. Wow. They just didn't understand and refused to leave without one. It's almost impossible to get a 180lb kid off the floor when they don't want to move. Yeah, we had no pride left after that. Most everything since has been a breeze. hahahaha. Well, almost everything. :)
5. In the candy aisle, I asked him if he wanted to get some Tootsie Pops. He put a box in the cart and then grabbed a box of Blow Pops, too! I said, "200 suckers? OK, but just don't unwrap ALL of them tonight, alright?" :)
6. He was too excited to help load up the Jeep and jumped into his seat and looked at his purchases.
7. We stopped for gas on the way home. I kept a close eye on him while I filled the tank. Once he escapes from you, your trust is gone! lol. I didn't want him tearing across the parking lot because he saw a store that might have DVD's in it! ha ha.
So, overall it was a pretty good trip. He still likes to go full blast with the cart, not understanding that he could run over people. And he still had a hard time steering it, not slowing down for corners and practically going on two wheels to turn. :) He wasn't as content to stay with me this year, which made it a little more stressful. I don't know how many times I said, "Stay with me!" He certainly had his independent streak in full gear. He was, however, very patient in the checkout, and didn't freak out when his stuff had to go on the conveyor belt.
I did get the biggest kick out of him during the drive. I cranked up the radio and he bee-bopped in his seat to the music. If he didn't have a seat belt on, I just know his forehead would have hit the windshield! SO hilarious. :)
♥
Oh what a trip, I was laughing, smiling, shaking my head, rolling my eyes...Oh Betsy, you really know how to tell a story, and then pictures to boot to make it all come alive...
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you get my Hero Award today, and Spencer gets a big hug....if he'd let me. HaHa
Spencer allows hugs. :) That is one thing they are not autistic about is the touching and affection. haha. In fact, Harry is too affectionate and kisses people at school. haha. He just comes from a loving home! What can I say? lol....
DeleteNever a dull moment around here, let me tell you! haha. Whew!
I think was so fun to him and a little stress for you, but is normal when I go out with the kids always Im seeing where are, Esperanza lost in a Grocery many years ago, was terrible.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures are really nice!Love picture 2, look nice!
I wanna say you an Heather said the same, love your post of the kids, really love!!
DeleteYes, overall it was a good trip. And it's good for him to get out with me. During the school year I go when all are in school!
DeleteProbably my favorites posts to read are your posts about the boys and your shopping excursions!! Love them! You will have to let us know how long the 200 suckers go before they are unwrapped! LOL
ReplyDeletehaha...you just love them because you know there is going to be adventure and craziness! lol. :)
DeleteThe suckers were forgotten for the moment. DVDs were the main concern. We hid the suckers until he asks for them. :)
Well, I DO love the adventure and craziness for sure! Those boys of yours are just so stinkin cute!!!
DeleteWhat a trip! I love reading about your shopping trips - they are always an adventure. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad they had train dvd's, glad he was easily found and hooray for suckers too!
Yes, we all survived. I could have used a good strong drink when I got home, though! lol.
DeleteSounds like an adventure. Wonder how long it will take them to work their way through two boxes of suckers. I think it would be fun to go shopping with you. :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully it will take more than a week. haha. And you would be fun to shop with! If you promise not to tantrum, I'll let you pick out a few treats, too! :)
DeleteOh, I never throw tantrums--at least not in the grocery store. :)
DeleteI guess I could give you a coffee before we start just to make sure. :)
DeleteThat might be the best way to ensure there were no tantrums. :)
DeleteAnd I'll have one too, just to be able to keep you in line. hahaha.
DeleteAre you sure that we should shop together in that state? :) We might make impulsive purchases like 5 pound bags of coffee beans. :)
DeleteOoh...just think how cheap that would be per pound! haha. We might talk really, really fast, too! hahaha.
DeleteYes, and laugh hysterically at things that aren't funny. :)
DeleteOh, you sound way too much like me. We would be in trouble for sure. hahaha. Do you cry when you laugh hard?
DeleteOnce in a while. Sometimes something random strikes me funny, and my family just stares at me while I laugh. oh dear :)
DeleteI have to be really tired and in a silly mood. Then I can't stop!
DeleteYeah, tired is bad. Almost worse than too much caffeine.
DeleteSo, how are your chickens? How many eggs do you get per day? Did you find someone to buy them?
DeleteThey're doing good. I'm getting around 24-28 eggs a day. I have 4 regular customers--between them, and our family I actually empty my fridge of eggs about once a week. :)
Deletewow...that is perfect! How fun. I wish I could have chickens. I think it would be fun. I need to buy them from my friend more regularly.
DeleteDo you buy from the same person that Jill/Killeny Glenn does?
DeleteNo, but she gave me a dozen not too long ago and they were wonderful!
DeleteSpencer is looking so much older! Glad you had a good trip.
ReplyDeleteyes, he's all grown up now...and we hadn't shaved his face in about a week. lol. He so much skinnier than he was at this time last year!
DeleteSo nice that Spencer had a nice outing with you! I can't believe there are that many train dvds on sale... what happens the next time one of them goes and there's no new one?
ReplyDeleteOh, they have no problem buying duplicates. Isn't that crazy? But most of the time the original needs to be replaced. They are not very good about caring for them or understanding that a scratch or dirt will not let them play properly.
DeleteHahaha lying one the floor
ReplyDeleteYelling out to the whole store
They will know to have a trin dvd
Forever now at their sea
And 200 suckers at one time
Would surely get him in the record books with such a chime
Sounds like a fun trip was had
But must be glad to have survived and be back at ur pad haha
three on the floor
Deleteyelling all the more!
Oh, what a day
but we laugh about it at our bay
as a 'remember when'
with a grin.
I should do a post soon
of some of the worst times of this host
as they are quite hilarious now
thinking we lived through them some how!
hahaha sure that would be a great post to be had
DeleteAnd all is better and not so bad
Once it has been lived through I suppose
Although some things might still cause woes
no tantrums? that's always a good thing :) sounds like a successful trip! :) and wowzers on the lollipops!
ReplyDeleteno tantrums...but we haven't had any of those in many years. That big one was about 8 years ago. :) Now they like to just be independent and run!
DeleteThat's a great story Bets. You make it easy to visualize. Is Spencer the son who spreadsthings all over the room..til you get him to pick them up?
ReplyDeleteThe stacks of pages he's printed off the internet? yes, that's him. :)
DeleteAnother eventful day for Betsy and her Zoo!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou must live way out in the country, by the looks of the scenery....
So glad that you and Spencer had a good day....he must be very pleased with his purchases...
Enjoy the rest of your evening...
Cheers!
Linda :o)
our little village is out in the middle of nowhere!
DeleteWe can drive 15 minutes to a Walmart Supercenter
and it's about 25 to Sams Club.
When you run errands...you get them all done at once...
no running out for one or two things! ha.
The farmland is beautiful, though...very scenic
and no traffic!
Sounds wonderful, Betsy..
Deletewell, there are pros and cons like everywhere. :)
Deletenice....just got back from a day trip with my wife...no train videos where we went...smiles...glad he found some...and lol...good luck on all those lollipops...smiles....
ReplyDeletewell, good for you...sounds fun! :)
DeleteSpencer is getting very independent. Sounds like a good shopping trip. How fun that he bops to the music. Does he have a favorite type of music?
ReplyDeleteHe likes anything from Pop and Rock to Alvin and The Chipmunks! lol! It really doesn't matter...he even likes Beethoven!
Deletelol So sneaky, Betsy!!! Putting the yellow cap on with hidden motives. Sneaky, sneaky!
ReplyDeletehaha...that's my middle name!..and it's a survival technique. ;)
DeleteI love hearing about your trips with each of the boys to the store. For us it's always something entertaining and we can smile. For you, I'm sure it's not always as entertaining or funny at the time it's happening. Choo choo!
ReplyDeleteIt isn't always, but it can me very amusing...especially once it's over. :) I'm glad you all love to laugh with me!
DeleteYou are so good with them! I just love your stories. Isn't it amazing how a dvd or something they are into can make them so happy. Parker loves fire videos and there are barely any left in the world he doesn't have, lol. When we used to go to yardsales, if they didn't have any fire movies or books Parker would freak. He thought every yardsale should have some. He's learning as he gets older but he still gets really disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking it must be scary to think he could get away from you and it would be hard to catch him or bring him back. Is he easier with you or your husband? I loved that story about when they were ten and all threw themselves down. I bet looking back you really laugh about it. How did you get them up off the floor? This is terrible but I used to tell Parker there was a bug or a snake on the floor so he would finally get up.
Cute post, sorry about the rambling.
oh, I wish they would have been scared of a bug...I might have used that in an emergency situation. lol.
DeleteFire videos...wow...that's even more exclusive than trains!
What a great adventure for Spencer!! Take care
ReplyDeletex
he had fun! We'll do it again, too! :)
DeleteYou are such an amazing mom, Betsy!!! I am thankful they had three train DVDs too. And, glad you didn't have that "panic" feeling... that'll take years off your life!! LOL! Yea for Spencer finding his favorites! Would love to have been there for the bee-bopping!! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteYeah, no panic feeling...just immediate anger. lol! :)
DeleteThe high school where I'm a special ed teacher there is a family with 3 autistic children - not tripletts but pretty darn close in age. The topper is the dad is autistic also. I don't know how they manage to go anywhere or get anything done, but they do. Thanks for presenting such a positive outlook fo kids/familie with autism. Spencer sure is cute! 3 10 year olds throwing a public fit I'd probably lay down and throw one myself.
ReplyDeletehaha...well, I didn't lay down and throw one myself, but I did cry all the way home! :(
DeleteYour a good momma.. you know that? I mean it!
ReplyDeleteAw thanks Christie. ♥
DeleteThat certainly sounds like quite the adventure. And very entertaining! I love the way you put the yellow ball cap on Spencer so he'd be easier to find! :)
ReplyDeleteAhhh, Summer shopping.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the trip went well.
What a beautiful drive.
I like the idea of the yellow cap for quick identification in public.
ReplyDeleteTrains. Can't get much more boy than that. Does he have a train track at home?
Oh what a great pots, I can tell you two had a great day together.;) It is so interesting your boys have this passion for trains, how extraordinary. Have they ever traveled by train and did they like it?
ReplyDeletexoxo
Three sets of train DVDs and beebopping in his seat. That boy had a great time!!
