Vintage Bottles

I worked an auction yesterday. I did pick through the trash at the end and got a few little things.  But the most exciting thing I got I actually bid on!  I collect vintage bottles and there were lots of them there today!  I bid on and won every single box of old bottles there!  Thirteen boxes to be exact for a total of $64 in all.  They are dirty, dusty and some have dead bugs in them.  I can't wait to wash them up and see what I actually have!  I'll have to take some 'after' photos of them clean and sparkly.  And I'll have to see if any of them are worth any serious money.  See the green soda bottle on the bottom far left?  It says 'soda' on this side and "CC" on the other.
Vintage Coca Cola?  That would be fun.  I'll investigate and let you know.
Now you know what I'll be doing today and tomorrow!
OK...now where's the Dawn detergent.....

  2. I like the blue ones. Our house sits next to the site of the old city dump. My boys dig bottles like these out of our "back 40" all the time. Fun!

  3. Look kind of germy as you say
But when you wash them up for display
    I'm sure they'll be grand
And that is a TON of bottles for you land
    Back at my old place
We found hundreds of them in the open field space
It was a regular bottle graveyard there
Last I saw of them they were still at that lair

    1. Gee, another thing in common for me and that place
I guess with cats and bottles we have the same taste.
      ha.
Not sure I need to keep them all.
But they have to be clean if they remain at my stall.
      lol.
      How was your day?
      A little different, I would say! :)

  7. I love the blue ones. Do you have to wash them by hand? Can they be out in the dishwasher on the china setting? I have seen coloured bottles melted down and then they can be hung. Very pretty.

    1. The ones with the larger mouths are going in the dishwasher I think but the narrow necked ones probably have to be done by hand. I don't think the inside will get clean in the dishwasher.
The ones I've done look so much better! :)

  8. My kids used to find old bottles buried in the mud out at the edge of the woods. Old dumping grounds probably. I have a small collection lining the upper windows of my living room, but I'm never quite sure how to feel about those old blue Milk of Magnesia bottles they brought home.

    1. Dishwasher detergent, water, and a trip through the microwave and then a good brushing with an old toothbrush or bottle brush worked wonders for us. (We didn't have a dishwasher.)

      Delete
    2. I've seen yours on your window sill...lovely! So far a rinse to get out the bugs and then a soak in the kitchen sink with soapy hot water has done the trick. I have a stuborn one, though that I'll put in the microwave...good idea!

I have a couple of those blue magnesia bottles. haha.

      Delete
    3. Oh yeah, I bet they would be!

I did find a magnesia bottle last night that is lighter blue with the words embossed into the glass. ..a little different than the big dark blue ones...prettier, actually!

  16. I was helping a friend look for a well that sat on the property of his childhood home that was torn down when a new highway came through.
As we snaked through the brambles, we found some amazing old bottles. I picked up a few and put them on the window sill of my barn. There are few things more beautiful that evening sunlight through an old bottle.

I'm a new follower. Love you blog.

  25. It's really great to see someone who finds cash in someone's trash. Keep it up!!! Hope that someday you'd hit the jackpot bottle. LOL. Those black bottles seem interesting, you never know what kind of stuff is lurking inside ‘cause you can't see it from the outside. Anyway, goodluck on your vintage bottle collection.
