I worked an auction yesterday. I did pick through the trash at the end and got a few little things. But the most exciting thing I got I actually bid on! I collect vintage bottles and there were lots of them there today! I bid on and won every single box of old bottles there! Thirteen boxes to be exact for a total of $64 in all. They are dirty, dusty and some have dead bugs in them. I can't wait to wash them up and see what I actually have! I'll have to take some 'after' photos of them clean and sparkly. And I'll have to see if any of them are worth any serious money. See the green soda bottle on the bottom far left? It says 'soda' on this side and "CC" on the other.
Vintage Coca Cola? That would be fun. I'll investigate and let you know.
Now you know what I'll be doing today and tomorrow!
OK...now where's the Dawn detergent.....
♥
very cool...i def like the ones with texture...and the colored ones...the greens and blues...very nice...and best wishes on that investigation....
ReplyDeleteit is a coke bottle! :)
DeleteI like the blue ones. Our house sits next to the site of the old city dump. My boys dig bottles like these out of our "back 40" all the time. Fun!
ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds like fun! I'd be out there digging all the time! ha.
DeleteLook kind of germy as you say
ReplyDeleteBut when you wash them up for display
I'm sure they'll be grand
And that is a TON of bottles for you land
Back at my old place
We found hundreds of them in the open field space
It was a regular bottle graveyard there
Last I saw of them they were still at that lair
Gee, another thing in common for me and that place
DeleteI guess with cats and bottles we have the same taste.
ha.
Not sure I need to keep them all.
But they have to be clean if they remain at my stall.
lol.
How was your day?
A little different, I would say! :)
pat i have to say Jac made a nice work. lol
Deletehaha I guess so
DeleteAlthough you win in bottles at your show
Cats pretty soon too
If another batch or two comes due..haha
Don't even go there
Very different at my lair
Germs everywhere
Glad these days are rare..haha
Yes that she did indeed
She did the cat proud at his feed
i know you are the king of your show
Deletebut she made the best of her own
ha!
Gloria, you're making me blush!! I guess my inner rhyme has been exposed :) haha
Deletehaha inner rhyme has sure come out
DeleteWhich you proved today without a doubt

Deletethanks Betsy im in the kitchen snd write you with my cel!
Deleteso finally behin hot tomr there:)
what a haul! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm washing them up...the funnest part! ha.
DeleteWhat a buy! Can't wait to see what they look like when clean - and if you have any great finds!
ReplyDeleteWhy does there have to be a dead spider in each one? lol.
Deleteesperanza have terror to spider:(
DeleteOh yuck, if there is anything worse than a live spider it's a dead one.
DeleteI hate them, too. But I'd rather they were dead. lol.
Deleterebecca in the summer always find spiders at home:(
DeleteTaylor squished a huge one in the kitchen for me already this week! Sometimes I get bitten....so awful!
Deletewell with dead. spiders i dont have problem lol
Deleteyes,...ugly but harmless. lol.
DeleteI love the blue ones. Do you have to wash them by hand? Can they be out in the dishwasher on the china setting? I have seen coloured bottles melted down and then they can be hung. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe ones with the larger mouths are going in the dishwasher I think but the narrow necked ones probably have to be done by hand. I don't think the inside will get clean in the dishwasher.
DeleteThe ones I've done look so much better! :)
My kids used to find old bottles buried in the mud out at the edge of the woods. Old dumping grounds probably. I have a small collection lining the upper windows of my living room, but I'm never quite sure how to feel about those old blue Milk of Magnesia bottles they brought home.
ReplyDeleteDishwasher detergent, water, and a trip through the microwave and then a good brushing with an old toothbrush or bottle brush worked wonders for us. (We didn't have a dishwasher.)
DeleteI've seen yours on your window sill...lovely! So far a rinse to get out the bugs and then a soak in the kitchen sink with soapy hot water has done the trick. I have a stuborn one, though that I'll put in the microwave...good idea!
DeleteI have a couple of those blue magnesia bottles. haha.
Careful, they're hot!
DeleteOh yeah, I bet they would be!
DeleteI did find a magnesia bottle last night that is lighter blue with the words embossed into the glass. ..a little different than the big dark blue ones...prettier, actually!
Betsy my favorite is magnesia bottle, always love this blue!
Deleteand coke bottles, Ditto have someones! he collect too lol
You're a woman on a mission! Can't wait to hear how that one turns out :)
ReplyDeleteStay tuned! lol. Lots of icky bugs right now, Jax...probably even some dead fleas. lol. Sorry...it had to be said. :)
DeleteDead fleas
DeleteCan they still bite knees?...hahaha
Jax will have to let us know
Deleteif the itching overflows
when they are dead.
Do you think it's in her head?
lol.
You always find the most interesting things... or, at least they become interesting once you give them the Betsy touch.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping they will be gorgeous! ha. I need a sunny spot to disply them...well, some of them. Or open a shop. I certainly have enough to start one. ha.
DeleteWooooHoooo Auction Day! Oh...what fun!
ReplyDeleteI hope you didn't spend your whole pay check on the bottles ;~)...
How many did you end up getting? Keep us up to date on where all of them go.8~) You have all the fun...treasure hunting...while working. 8~)
Take care,
Nancy
I actually had paycheck leftover! Yay! haha. I haven't counted yet, Nancy, but there are TONS! ha. I'll count after I've washed them all.
DeleteI always knew you had a lot of 'bottle', Betsy!
ReplyDeleteAh, Martin ~ you're always so clever with the comments. :)
DeleteHi Betsy .. they look gungy and will be so lovely once clean - I hope you find a gem or two ... looking forward to your sparkling bottle post - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThey are starting to sparkle! I washed 8 boxes last night. Can't wait to have them washed and start looking for a few gems.
DeleteThat looks like an exciting haul. You have a great job!
ReplyDeleteIt is a nice job. ...a little stressful, but fun! :) Finding neat stuff is certainly a perk!
DeleteOoooh can't wait for the after photos! Yay! Take care
ReplyDeletex
Oooh...kitty...they are cleaning up nicely!
DeleteI was helping a friend look for a well that sat on the property of his childhood home that was torn down when a new highway came through.
ReplyDeleteAs we snaked through the brambles, we found some amazing old bottles. I picked up a few and put them on the window sill of my barn. There are few things more beautiful that evening sunlight through an old bottle.
I'm a new follower. Love you blog.
What a neat story! Did you find a well? :) I agree about sunlight through old bottles. That's why I collect them! Great to meet you here! :)
DeleteWhat a fascinating assortment. Have fun sorting through them. I know what that's like!!!
ReplyDeleteyep! And you already knew I collect them! Fun find, don't you think? :)
DeleteUh-huh! Washing them might be a pain in the butt, but sorting them should be enjoyable.
Deleteexactly. wish you lived close...you could help. ha.
DeleteActually, doll, I can think of all sorts of advantages if I lived closer to you...
Deleteyes, yes...I'd let you stay for dinner...and I'd serve coffee and your favorite dessert. :)
DeleteOhhhhh, really!Hm. Sorry, I have to sign off... If anybody's looking for me, tell 'em I'm packing for a trip to Ohio!!!
Deletelol! My boys would love you.
DeleteYou really got the MOTHER LOAD!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOH MY! WHERE will you put them all!?!?!?!?!
Oh, I'm not planning on keeping them all! ha. Can you imagine the dusting? lol.
DeleteOK Betsy when you want I put in my sidebar the houses for you !lol
ReplyDeleteOh, you have a nice collection! I love them! Thanks for showing me, dear! They are very pretty!
DeleteIm glad you like Betsy:)
Deletevery nice!
DeleteI'm off to do the grocery shopping! :)
Betsy the second picture you see in the house are on a piece of antique furniture? is actually a sewing machine from my grandmother, I have plants and houses there.
DeleteRoses are here today lol
I think this sewing machine have about 60 or 70 years OMG and my grand mom sew in it of course!
You've got your work cut out for you. What treasures. I look forward to the after shots.
ReplyDeleteI'll certainly let ya'll see the 'after' photos! :)
DeleteSounds like you have an investigative journey ahead of you. You may discover a rare find as you unravel the mystery. What's old is new again! :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun!!!
I can't wait to start looking for information on some of the more unique ones! Should be fun!
Deletelooks like a great score. distinctive glass bottles can be so beautiful. and for only $64?? you did well.
ReplyDeleteI think so! I need to count them to see how much I paid per bottle. It's going to be pennies!
DeleteOh that is going to be a lot of fun. I have so many bottles that have memories but you have some to develop some new memories. I bet you can find enough good ones to get your money back easily.
DeleteI, too, love vintage bottles...I've been collecting some random ones at local beaches here. I'm thinking of making tiki torches with a couple of them...pretty sure none of mine are worth anything but it will be fun to see what you have in your great pile. :)
ReplyDeleteThis does look like a great way to spend your time the next few days. Looking forward to some "after" shots.
ReplyDeleteIt's really great to see someone who finds cash in someone's trash. Keep it up!!! Hope that someday you'd hit the jackpot bottle. LOL. Those black bottles seem interesting, you never know what kind of stuff is lurking inside ‘cause you can't see it from the outside. Anyway, goodluck on your vintage bottle collection.
ReplyDeleteRob Feckler
thanks Rob...I appreciate your comment here. I've always loved digging through trash..lol...and have found a few treasures! yeah, those black bottles would be a little un-nerving to clean out. These were bad enough and I could see what was in them! :)
