Crescent Moon

from my front yard, 2-27-12

Have you noticed the moon lately?
It's been absolutely stunning, bright and glowing.
The stars have been, too, making it very easy to identify Orion's Belt, The Big Dipper, Mars, Saturn and many others.

  7. That's a beautiful picture. Would you care to share technical details of how you got that shot?

  8. Hi, S. :)

Sure...I have a Nikon CoolPix P100 camera with a 26X zoom. I zoomed in as far as it would let me and held my breath so I wouldn't jiggle the camera. ha. That's it! It was a very cold night and I think that helps with the sharpness...no humidty to shoot through. Thanks for asking!

  9. Nice shot! And you didn't use a tripod? You have very steady hands.

The moon also goes great with your new header photo!

    1. well, I try to be steady! I don't have a tripod. I have to hold my breath and wait until I get really steady. Zooming in that far makes it really hard to not move! I can feel my pulse sometimes and it makes it blurry! ha. Yes, a tripod would be a good thing! :) I took 4 photos and 2 were clear, 2 were blurry.

    2. I'm surprised that a photography pro like you doesn't have a tripod. But then again, seeing all of your great photos, its apparent that you do just fine without one.

    3. Oh, I'm not a pro...lol..I think I get lucky sometimes. But that was sweet...thank you. I can photograph birds and the moon...but inside shots really need some work! I need to read the manual that came with my camera! lol. (I've only been saying that for a year!)

  12. What moon?
    Is seconded by this loon
For all we got tonight is stupid snow
    Coming down all aglow
    Make it go away
And come back to your bay
I know you want the stuff
    And we've had enough..haha
And that is coffee on the top
Hmmm good thing your twin told me or I'd flop
Thought it was soup at first
Not what you use to get an energy burst..hahaha

    1. I'd love to have your snow
Shh...don't tell or others will yell, "NO!"
      hahaha.
      Soup? With whipped cream?
      Not even in my dreams.
I don't have your food aversions
      and even I would scream.
      lol.

      Delete
    2. hahaha I had no idea at all
Only liquid is apple juice at my hall
And yeah they may scream no
But I'll still send it to you in one quick blow

    3. tomorrow is supposed to be warm with tornadoes and hail
I'd much rather have your snow, no matter how much they wail!
      If any of my zoo
      blows over to you
      please take them in
and share some Cat Chow with them.
      ha.

      Delete
    4. Yeah snow beats tornadoes with ease
      Those things never please
Causing much destruction along the way
And if any kitties wash up at my bay
The cat will be nice for a day
Before shipping them back to your bay..haha

      Delete
    5. Shipping them back?
      Oh, that's not necessary, Pat.
      ha.

    6. hahaha two is enough for me

  22. Now I will have to go out and check the moon out. Been too sick to care, but we have too many lights and seeing stars is fairly hard to do. Love the hot chocolate, I sure could us a cup right now. Today is cold and tomorrow is going to be in the mid 80's. We keep going from hot to cold and back again. Our bodies cannot adjust. But I love the cold and wish it would stay that way.

Love pics of Nugget and Tiger, so good to see them getting along.

    God bless.

  23. I rarely see any stars here - too much light pollution. I don't know how you take such superb photos of the moon. I tried and it's really hard to do.
