Fittonia

Fittonia argyroneura
Remember that pretty pink plant that hopped into my shopping cart and said "Take me home with you!"? Well, she's been planted in a new pot and thriving quite nicely beside the kitchen sink. I don't normally name my plants, but she came already named! And I think Frankie is an adorable name. :)

  1. Fittonia sounds like some European country that our troops might have been stationed in after WWII.

  2. I know this plant is really beauty Betsy!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Gloria ~ they are native to South America! But they said they like very humid conditions, so I hope it will survive our dry winter indoor air! I'll have to use my mister on it to keep it moist! ha.

Silver ~ the name means 'nerve plant'. Hmmm.

  4. My mom had one of these thrive really well in her terrarium. They are so pretty!! Take good care of Frankie. :)

  5. How is The Mister supposed to keep it moist?

Oh, wait, you didn't mean your Mister, you meant your mister. Oops. Silly me.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yes I sa here , i think the humid is important, but I think will be OK indoor in winter

    ReplyDelete
  7. Rebecca ~ I read that they love terrariums!

Silver ~ I just KNEW you were going to say that. Knew it. ha.

Gloria ~ I have noticed that it likes to be watered every day! Thirsty little thing! ha.

  8. I thinks these plants are from Brasil or these countries because have tropical weather, here is more dry especially now in summer!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thanks for setting me up like that. You're too good to me, you know that?

  10. My dearest Mother's name was Frankie Lela...Not a nick name for Francis but Frankie...I love her name as I loved her...miss her all the time, and I'm going to buy a Frankie plant for our home.

    Your photograpy is so lovely!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wanda ~ I love the name, too! Yes, I think you must have a Frankie plant. I got it at Walmart. :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. They say you should talk to plants...having a name for them would make it easier to have a conversation. :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Rebecca ~ You would think that I would talk to my plants, like I do all my other zoo creatures! But I never have. I do like to fuss over them, though...so having to mist and water this one will be good. :) I see it has some flower buds! I hope it blooms. That will be an unexpected surprise!

Silver ~ I am too good to you, it is true. I'm just sweet like that. hahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  14. frankie works for me...love how the color are...the outline...really makes the interior pop

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think its a cute name too, its a beauty

    ReplyDelete
  17. Gloria ~ well we have humid summers, so if I can keep it alive until then, I think it will do fine. It's grown a lot in just a week!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't talk to my plants either, other than the normal muttering...."now, what should I do next" that kind of thing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Rebecca ~ so you don't talk to them, but ask them for advise? lol...

    ReplyDelete
  20. what a pretty color! just right to cheer up a winter day!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm always open to helpful advice....from my plants. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Uhhh, Rebecca, do you ask other inanimate objects for advice? Furniture? Appliances?

    ReplyDelete
  23. And I'm sure they are good listeners!

    ReplyDelete
  24. This is nice here the summer are terrible dry (In this part) but at the beach are more humid, here the plants are difficult to care Betsy, I have some basils plants and I have to water almost all days! I dont like this time, is easy a plant die.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Silver, No, but occasionally I beg them for help like "don't break on me now" etc :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I only talk with teh dogs and Im sure you talk with cats Betsy and silver with Orsom, anyway all talk with somebody (lol)

    ReplyDelete
  27. That's to appliances...NOT furniture. oops. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Gloria ~ I love growing herbs. Yes, they need to be watched carefully if it is dry. I'd like to have an indoor pot of herbs for my kitchen.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, and I especially talk to myself! lol...

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have a little furniture with pots but I have to be looking sometimes cause one of the dogs is terrible with plants.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh, me too--I'm the only other adult in the house a lot of the time. :) They say that's ok as long as you don't answer yourself. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. You also sing to yourself, with a wooden spoon. (According to my cameras, anyway.)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Gloria ~ 2 years ago I brought my herb pots inside at the end of the fall season and Nugget ate all of them down to the root the first night. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes, I do that...and dance across the kitchen floor! ha.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh, nothing in particular...lots of different ones. But only if I'm home alone. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I always sing too Betsy! Normally Im alone too!

    ReplyDelete
  37. My grandma used to sing "Just Me And My Shadow" and waltz down her hallway. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I sing too, but I sing anytime I want whether people are home or not. You should see my kids roll their eyes. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Gloria ~ I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Silver ~ I know you sing...and whistle!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't sing or whistle too much at home, unless I'm singing on the telephone.

    ReplyDelete
  42. No, no...I don't have cameras on anybody! ha. Do I look like a spy? haha.

    ReplyDelete
  43. No, but to be honest I'm not sure what a spy looks like. :) lol

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well... The good ones don't look like spies, Rebecca!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well, I used to repo cars for a living...that's a little like a detective. ha. And you do slink around and watch for people. So, maybe in a way, that's like a spy. lol...

    ReplyDelete
  46. That had to have been an interesting job Betsy. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I wouldn't mind certain people slinking around in my neighborhood.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Bragondorn ~ is the wind howling where you are? I hope it brings some snow!

Michelle ~ thanks. I'll tell her you said so!

Rebecca ~ never a dull moment, that is for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I was thinking more in terms of slinky lady spies.

    ReplyDelete
  50. slinky?

ha...that was one of my favorite toys when I was a little girl. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. there is a person who is obsessed with cameras sigh!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Betsy for this plants on the summer you need something like this

    http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumblarge_607/13060828679w48g4.jpgyou

    for moist the leaves

    ReplyDelete
  53. Gloria ~ I can't bring up the photo. Is it a mister?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yes! sorry Betsy maybe I dont write all!:(

    ReplyDelete
  55. Oh well. It's ok. I tried to find it but it says no such number.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I've seen plant watering systems that connect to the kitchen faucet. I think those would be handy. :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. This are simple but is nice to all plants especially these you hav eto moist leaves!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Gloria ~ yes, I think that is the same. It sprays water in a fine mist on the plants. I have a little collection of them. And I just gave Frankie a mist. :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Do you have any African Violets Betsy?

    ReplyDelete
  60. sure but especially in the summer, or in your house the temperature is dry?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yes, its dry in our house with the heat running. It makes the boys' noses very dry and sometimes they have a nosebleed. I run a humidifier for that. Is that what you mean?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Rebecca ~ I do have an African Violet! It's sits here on my desk.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I used to kill them, but I think I'm finally having success with two that my mother-in-law gave me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. yes sometimes in winter the aire is so dry not only for the persons to the plants too

    ReplyDelete
  65. Rebecca and Gloria ~ you two need to come back for breakfast. Gloria, bring your whole wheat bread and Rebecca, bring some eggs. I'll brew the coffee. :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Rebecca all my frican violents that I had die:(

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ok, I'll bring dozens of eggs. :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Right, Gloria. I have it in the boys' bedroom now. I'll have to bring it out in the kitchen sometimes, too! That's a great idea..thanks!

Rebecca ~ violets like to be watered with warm water instead of cold. And they like morning sun. Mine isn't blooming right now but it does regularly.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Gloria, I think I was keeping them in too warm a place. They don't want to be cold, but I had them near the furnace vent. :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Very pretty. At first i thought it was coleus. I did a little reading about it and it grows from cuttings...I bet it would be beautiful grown in a garden bed too.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Oh I used to take leaves and put them in water to root them and then end up with tons of plants in spring to plant outside. They added such warmth and color to a garden. I did the same with the spider plants I just loved to watch them grow.
They were like my babies. :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anita and Lady...you girls were thinking alike! I read that tonight, too! I love that...start another plant with just a cutting.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Good night, Rebecca... And stop killing things!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I love those...that dash of pink is so delicate and pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sounds like a made up name
Maybe I'll steal it for the A not so game
When I need a new one
As Fittonia could be a companion for Tripit and all his fun..haha
    And nerve plant you say
So does it calm all the nerves your way?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Pat ~ Tripet and Fittonia sitting in a tree...

    lol.

I don't know why they call it a nerve plant.
Sounds like it's deadly poisonous when they call it that.
But I won't nibble it to find out.
Might make my tongue numb and then I'd shout!
    hahahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  77. hahaha well at least you've had experience with the numb tongue
So you won't shout so loud you'd pop a lung

    ReplyDelete
  78. Pat ~
yes, but once is enough of that
next time maybe it wouldn't leave my flat
numb tongue forever would be bad
and make me a little sad.
Might turn into Flappy because I couldn't feel it move
You might end up wanting to stamp my forehead with one of those mean words.
    hahaha.
btw...enjoy her tomorrow. I feel a post coming on. Hope you have the correct color of ink this time. haha.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I thought you're always supposed to name your plants and talk to them. Isn't that how they grow??

She...I mean he...I mean Frankie is a gorgeous color pink! Such a pretty plant. It's a great decoration and natural air purifier. Love it :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. LOL I'm afriad Flappy used up all the ink
As she brought me to the brink
Plus with a numb tongue forever
It could be a fun endeavor
    For as your speak
    Your words may tweak
And form a language all your own
Although that may increase your tone
Oh but it there is a drop of snow
Flappy will cancel and I can go
So here is hoping for that
Although with my luck I'll have to deal with the flappy rat

    ReplyDelete
  81. Jax ~ I'll start talking to her and giving her kisses. I'll let you know if she grows faster! :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Pat ~
    now she's a rat?
I thought she was a cow.
    I hope it doesn't snow
So we get the post any how.
    ha.

    ReplyDelete

    x

    ReplyDelete
  85. I learned something new today, never heard of fittonia before.

    it is very pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Yes, Birdie ~ who knew a plant could calm your senses? Why don't we all buy more of these? ha. The name means 'nerve plant' so maybe that means it calms your nerves? haha...I should move it around the house to stay close to me as I go about my day. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  87. haha Betsy, that's definitely what i need!!! maybe they could make a miniature one to carry along all day long - lol - a miniature Frankie :-)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  90. Rebecca ~ Frankie is doing very well today. I filled up a plant mister last night and gave her a little shower and another this morning. :)
    How are you today?

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm feeling kind of tired. Not sure why--like I'm fighting off a virus or something. Maybe I need a plant mister to make me happy like Frankie. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  92. Rebecca ~ hope you feel better! Lots of bugs going around this time of year!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Oh its beautiful! No wonder it jumped in your cart. Frankie is a great name for her.

    ReplyDelete
  94. You and your green thumb!! Very pretty.

There is a bar across the bottom of your page that flashes off and on....very bright! Does anyone else see it?

    ReplyDelete
  95. It is so rare to see a pink plant and with such a sophisticated name to boot! Glad you are giving it a good home, Betsy.
