Treasure Map

Treasure is the theme for Theme Thursday! It reminded me of the treasure maps my sisters and I would make when we were kids. Here's how we did it:
  1. Crinkle up a piece of paper; make creases by folding. Tear a few spots.
  2. Stain it with tea to give it that aged, yellow look. Let it dry.
  3. Burn some of the edge. Not sure why, but when you're a kid, it makes it look really cool.
  4. Smear some of the ash on the map for dirt and variation of shade. Use the match tip to draw parts of the map, lines for water and land.
  5. Add what you want, including a compass, landmarks, and of course, the big X!

Looks like Jack Sparrow could have carried this around in his pocket!

  18. Oh what memories that brings back.

My friend Kris and I made so many treasure maps...burried old coffee cans filled with our "treasures".

When I was away at college, my mom called to say my dad had just dug up one of my coffee cans while working in the back of the garden. How many years that coffee can stayed in the ground...somebody needed a "Treasure Map"....HaHa

Betsy, hadn't thought of that in years....

  19. Wanda ~ that is such a fun story! I don't remember us doing anything but making the maps! I don't think we actually buried any treasures.

  20. Wow that is really neat
So if the cat finds the X does he get a treat?
He'd beat Jack Sparrow any day
After all his movies now are of the overbloated display
Should stick one in a bottle and chuck it in the sea
Then when someone finds it you'll give them such glee
They will go on a search for the treasure
Although finding none might not bring them pleasure..haha

  22. Pat ~ sure...cat treasures!
    any kind of pleasure.
    Strings and catnip galore
    rat sandwiches and lots more.
    Maybe even a fishy treat
or anything else you want to eat.
And if you're nice and purr
    maybe I'll pet your fur.
    That's to you, Orlin
    and not Pat.
want to make that clear and all that.
    lol.

  28. Really cool thing to do even as an adult. I would have never thought about using the tea to make the paper look older. I know they do it for art work but not treasue maps.

I would have never been allowed as a child to use the matches because I had accidently set the kitchen trash on fire, this was before there were pilot lights and one had to use a match to light the stove burners. I guess when I threw the match into the trash it was not out all the way. Thank goodness only the trash burned. After that no matches until I was a lot older, which was fine for me because I was scared of fire. Even now I stay leery of fires.

Really great Treasure TT and thank you so much for playing, it is so fun to have you play.

    God bless.
