Thanksgiving Salad

So, I'm thinking of the Thanksgiving menu. I have all the usual suspects listed, but it looks boring to me this year! With all of that heavy comfort food, we need something fresh and light to balance it all out. I saw this salad in the Sunday paper's coupon flyer, of all places. A pear half on a bed of lettuce, topped with dried cranberries, pecans, feta and balsamic vinaigrette. Yum. I think I found a new addition that will be beautiful, autumnal and tasty.
Are you adding any new dishes to your table this year?

  1. My MIL has decided that we will ALL be going to a local restaurant for Thanksgiving this year. Kind of a bummer in a way.

  2. Oh, wow! I couldn't do without the leftovers for the rest of the week! ha. Or pie for breakfast. But...no days of cooking and no dishes! :) Yes, I'm making lemonade for you! haha,

  3. Mmmmm sounds yummy--don't think my family would go for it though. Not quite traditional enough. :) Reading your sidebar--did you manage to destress? I could use some pointers in that area. :)

  4. Did somebody say, "Pie for breakfast?"

  5. Rebecca ~ oh we'll have all the traditional stuff,..cuz it's tradition! ha. But I occasionally add something new.

Yes, I did destress. I should do a post on stress sometime soon. I feel like I'm cracking up half the time and don't manage it well!

  7. I tried to add a few new dishes to my Thanksgiving gathering, but none of the young ladies would accept. :(

  8. Silver ~ send me an email...I'll give you a few pointers there on what you're doing wrong. ;)

  9. I love pie for breakfast! Especially pumpkin pie.

  10. Yeah, the stress is pretty high around here too, and I thought maybe you had some magic formula. One skunk on the porch plus four kitties equals less stress? :)

  11. Pecan is my favorite...but I don't think I've ever met a pie I didn't like. ha.

  12. Rebecca ~ no, that would be entertainment! ha.

Magic formula for me is solitude. And extra sleep.

  13. Rebecca ~ and to keep your sense of humor. :)

  14. It's the solitude I'm needing right now.

  24. I'm sure Nugget is now full of delight
You included him in dinner on Thanksgiving night
After all showing such rabbit food all around
Nice of you to include the bunny at your ground..hahahaha

  25. Christian ~ I'm thinking pomegranite seeds would be fun instead of the cranberries, too!

  26. Pat ~ bunny food is better than the bunny for food. ha.

I'm sure the turkey wishes we'd have rabbit
and that turkey wasn't a thanksgiving habit!
    ha.

  27. We don't have an equivalent to Thanksgiving weekend over here which is quite odd because we seem to share most other holidays and celebrations. Still I am sure I will find some excuse to have an extra slice of pie.

  28. OOoooh!!! I think I may try this - sounds yummy and very comforting and full of autumn flavours! Yay! Thanks for sharing! Take care

  30. It looks yummy and would be nice for dinner on any night. Could you use any other type of cheese? Feta is not one I really like.

I always bring the same thing each year and would be in trouble if I did not. I make a very large container of Orange Jello Salad and have to make enough so there are leftovers for those who always take some home. Hubby usually makes a dessert to bring.

Leftover turkey is so good, yummy, yummy.

    God bless.

I can not believe it is Thanksgiving already... I still miss that holiday, even after more than a decade back in Europe.

  43. Thanksgiving is not celebrated in my country so I'll compare the food to Christmas - Christmas dishes are very traditional here and we have the same food every Christmas but the thing is we have the dishes only at Christmas so I look forward to them for the whole year and that's why we don't make anything different :D Anyway, the salad sounds delicious - pear, cheese, nuts...I bet it will be a delicious adding to your Thanksgiving table. In fact it's so tempting that I may try it too :)
