Face Lift

The hail storm that hit our area last May did a lot of destruction. I remember it being the first time I was actually scared during a storm! And we have tornado watches and warnings all the time! The hail beat on the house so long and loud that I thought the windows were breaking! We had our house inspected for damage and not only did we need a new roof, but new gutters, downspouts, window screens and a skylight! Monday the roofers came. A team of 14 men swooped down on our house and got the entire job done in a matter of hours!
I made them cookies!
Gutters came today!

  3. wow when it rains it hails
haha yeah that was a tad off the rails
Wouldn't want to be out walking in something like that
Could really end poor Pat or the cat
Mother nature is just no fun
Causing all that work to be done
    And aren't all so nice
Feeding the men, did they take that off the price?..hahaha

  4. What a good feeling to have a new roof.
Though, it's like new underwear, nobody sees it, only you know.

  6. Christine ~ haha...true! The best part is that it was 23 years old. We were saving to replace it anyway. An insurance claim is so much better on our savings account! ha.

    With a sugar high
    and a full tummy sigh.

  9. Jill ~ it was a racket! It was worse than the hail! I had two pictures fall of the wall and the glass shattering all down the stairs...lol...

  19. Jill K ~ you have to get one, too? Well, I'm not surprised, really! The gutters are going on as I type! Are you using Tuttle? They have been great.

  20. As long as you didn't bake them pistachio cookies. I'd feel jealous, haha!

  21. Ouch for all the damage but you sure took care of them with cookies! I'd come and work for you just for cookies. :)

  22. my roof man came to clean the roof and now the ceiling is destroyed in the living room We asked him to come back and fix it but he hasn't come yet. I guess the damage doesn't matter to him.

  23. A hail storm can be really frightening, let alone the threat of a tornado!! You'll have peace of mind with the new roof and gutters now; less likelihood of damage to the inside. I'll bet those cookies disappeared in a flash!

  24. Ooh, sounds expensive! Hope your insurance pays, but it does look very smart with the new roof. I'll bet they don't get cookies on many jobs, especially home baked ones.

  25. jenny ~ yes, the insurance paid. Besides Taylor hitting a deer and totalling his car, it is the only claim we've filed in 27 years! But this was a big one!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow, Taylor hits a deer, and I run over the Easter Bunny! Small world, innit?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Silver ~ and both in vehicles owned by me! How did that happen?

    ReplyDelete
  28. You need to keep a closer eye on your keys!

    ReplyDelete
  29. aah Silver sounds as you are proud to kill the Easter bunny! aains

  30. @Gloria: The Easter Bunny I'm talking about is the one on Pat's blog that killed a bunch of Pat's readers! He deserved it.

It's not like I'd ever try to hurt a bunny like Nugget!

  31. ohh and Pat said the bunny kill the readers? I dont believe, maybe was the CAT....

  32. It would be wonderful if we all could get such a nice "face lift". But then again the ones I have seen on some actors would make anyone think many times before getting one. I mean most are unrecognizable and even scary.

Oh I wish I could have some of those cookies. I love cookies and one can never have too many cookies, or cakes, or donuts, well you know.

    God bless.

  33. Hi again,

I am not sure if you tried to visit Barb's site but Mr. Linky said her site did not exist. I have fixed her link and every one can visit her now. She has a most unusual gadget. Hope you visit to see it.

    God bless.

  34. Thanks, Mrs. U ~ I'll go visit her!

  38. Holy storm! Glad you got everything fixed up. When I looked at the picture...the cookies are the first thing I saw. :-)

  39. It is amazing how much damage hail can do. How fortunate (and also amazing) that the work got done in a matter of hours. How sweet of you to make cookies for the workman--I'm sure they would have done anything you asked of them after they got fresh, homebaked cookies. Have a lovely weekend. Mickie :)

  40. Mmm...cookies. I am glad you are all ship shape.

  41. Someone said me the patience is a virtue, and is right but you need a lot of patience when I arrived to my house where I live now I was 1 month all day with masters and people still working because this house was a disaster...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Gloria ~ oh yeah, I don't like it when workers are frustrating!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh my, Betsy, I got scared just by reading about the storm. I live in an area without any bigger storms and no torandos. I admire you for being so brave!! I'm so glad it's behind you and you're okay :) By the way, the cookies look awesome (I'd try to repair some roof for these cookies :D)!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I always love to read your menu, love the kiwi-berries LOL

    ReplyDelete
  45. You are cookie sweet, Betsy! Bet they don't get cookies on the job very often!

    ReplyDelete
  46. We had a hailstorm in April that was akin to having dump trucks full on marbles dumping on top of our house! Most of our neighbors have gotten new roofs since then, thankfully we didn't suffer any damage.

How sweet of you to make them cookies.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow, you got a new roof in a matter of hours? That is some hard working men, I say.;))
    xoxo
