Mug Shots, Better Known As School Pictures

harry, spencer and alex
Any parent who has a child with autism knows how difficult it is to get a good
photograph of them. You can get lucky with a candid shot, but professional portraits are the worst! We've had some hilarious school pictures in the past.
They have shut their eyes, put their hands over their ears, looked like they were
in pain...you name it. :) This year, although only one is smiling, they don't look
too terribly bad! At least they are all looking at the camera!
This is as good as it's going to get!

  11. Pat ~
I'm sure they had to take Alex's headset off
and that made him want to scoff.
We have laughed a time or two
they can be quite funny with what they do.
I wonder what the photographer thinks
when they try to lay of the floor and hope it sinks.
    haha.

  12. Success!!! I really think they look great!

I wondered the same thing, what the school photographer thought when he was taking my son's picture!

  16. The boys look so handsome in their pictures. Do you hang them up in the house?

  17. Christ ~ not long ago we had a family portrait taken for our church directory. It was a nightmare. lol. I'm sure that photographer slept well that night. She just didn't understand that she needed to be quick..and extra takes and instructions about tilting heads were not going over well. lol....I was afraid Alex was going to tackle her. ha.

  24. Three good photos - lucky you.
I bet you can see their personalites peeking through in each picture.

  25. Autism or not, I think all three photos are great... definitely better than the ones my own boys brought home last month!

  27. Blondie ~ Harry isn't identical to the other two, but he looks so much like them, doesn't he? He didn't as a newborn, though.

  28. So true Betsy about getting kids with autism to pose for a good photo opp! You should see my grandson's picture this year -kindergarten -and after his TSS worked with him all morning on sitting up straight, smiling nicely, no goofy looks, etc. Still and all, it's a great picture though because it's "HIM" -all him! But these pics of your boys -I think all three of 'em took darned good pics this year! Very nice, handsome!

  30. Thanks, Jeni. :) Gosh, it's been a long time since I've seen you in blogland! How are you?

  31. I think those are wonderful school photos! It's hard for anyone to get good shots at school. :)

  32. Very nice pictures, Betsy. My son has Asperger's and even getting him to have a photo can be a challenge. Last year, the photographer wanted a pose with a tiny backpack...no way, no how. the result, no individual photo and the class photo has him with the greatest scowl ever. This year, no smile, but very neutral facial expression.

  33. This was our first year with school pictures. I wasn't expecting anything considering but they didn't turn out bad. One is smiling, the other one has his thoughtful face on and they are both looking at the camera, so there is that! I imagine over the years our Lifetouch collection will be something that brings a few laughs. What can you do in 30 seconds?

  34. Nice photos...
the photographer "caught" some good shots of the boys. 8~)
    Take care,

  37. I think that almost everybody's school pictures are just hilarious for everyone. But they do serve a great purpose in showing the growth of each child. And growth has been happening this year which shows in their pictures. Very handsome indeed and I think they can be very proud of themselves.

    Thanks for sharing.

    God bless.

  44. We buy school pictures mainly for the grandparents......I hold my breath every year wondering what I'm gonna find when I open up the packages......What are the chances that all four kids are going to have their eyes open, a somewhat "normal" smile, etc? I was especially concerned what a few were going to look like when I found out their pictures were taken AFTER lunch and recess!!!! Yikes! Did they spill ketchup on their shirt? Is their hair turned upside down and wild? :) We lucked out, too! Whew!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh how precious Betsy! You must be SOOO pleased! They are very good looking guys. You can see the sweetness in these pictures. Hurrah for you Mom!

    ReplyDelete
  46. A very handsome trio. If I lived closer, I would love to take pictures for you...last week I had a young man that layed on the ground every time I took the camera out of the bag! (-:

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anita ~ oh, I laughed out loud at that. Now that you've been conditioned, we should drive up for a photo shoot. lol....

  48. Whilst school photographs do tend to be of slightly dubious quality (the picture of your boys is an exception to this rule) I do worry that they will be the only photographs to survive from this current generation as they are about the only ones still physically printed and kept.

  49. They look great...look so grown up! School pictures are always notorious for catching the closed eyes or flyaway hair : )
This reminds me of your GP's career of taking school photos. When we went to a recent class reunion, we saw a lot of his school photos.

  52. Such handsome, sweet young men! I think they look wonderful. For some reason I always forgot school picture day and dressed my worst!

  53. These are wonderful!! They are really good. My son's school class pic was hilarious where most the kids had expressions like you mentioned.

  54. Before I read your post, I gazed at the photos. I like them very much. They all look quietly happy. I then thought how it could be three views of the same child. It's a sweet and revealing set of photos.

  55. Betsy, these photos are excellent. I can sure see your eyes in Harry! Wow, they are so handsome. Good Job, boys!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks, Kim ~ they look like The Mister, but did get my dark hair and eyes! :) Harry sends you kisses!

  57. They are lovely young men and you are a beautiful Mum !

  58. Betsy, these are truly lovely pictures of your handsome young men. I rarely get a good flash portrait - my blink reflex is really fast so I usually look as if I'm drunk, with half-closed eyes! My daughter, on the other hand, is as photogenic as anything.

  59. Oh Betsy ~ They did good. They all look so cute..

  60. The boys look as though they took the whole school photo exercise in their stride, bravo to them. We've had some shockers over the years with all our mob, but no matter how dodgy, they are still very tangible memories to tuck away forever.

  64. I think the pics turned out great! Your boys look handsome and happy. I always hated picture day. My mother liked to do weird things with my hair- like teasing it into a bee hive....totally yuck!!

  65. Great photos of all three, I especially like the look on the face of the triplet on the right. Sorry, I don't know which one is which!
