Well, not really. :)
Unless you're talking ice cubes in your lemonade!
A lot of people around us have been without
power now for 24 hours! We've been fortunate! Still, ice
can be beautiful if you are cozy inside and looking out!
It was not so nice driving to an auction today!
Our village looks like a war zone with limbs down and
some trees destroyed. You can't tell any borders
between yards, curbs or our street...just one
big frozen lake! And the wind blew 40 mph today!
waiting like frozen treats for the Starlings.
he lets Mrs. Cardinal enjoy some dinner!
The big mountain of snow on the feeder has turned to icicles!
and the pines have a sparkle to them!
Reminds me of the Owl City song, The Saltwater Room,
"I guess I'll never know why sparrows love the snow..."
Don't forget to notice the beauty!
♥
Ice on branches does look pretty, but weather like this is best enjoyed when seen through a window. All we need is a few hot days and everyone here in New England will be surfing to visit you in Ohio!
ReplyDeleteWe had an ice storm a couple of years ago. No electricity for a week. No fun! Glad you guys are doing well!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warning, Silver. I'll set an extra place at the dinner table for you when you sail in! LOL!
ReplyDeleteSet three, please. I'll be bringing Orson -- like he'd miss a meal, right? -- and Zorro's horse, Toronado!
ReplyDeleteWell, OK, but Nugget might eat Orson. And then Toronado might eat Nugget! ha.
ReplyDeleteNugget would have to be pretty huge to make a meal out of Orson!
ReplyDeleteYou haven't met Nugget, have you! ha. Don't worry, he prefers greens.
ReplyDeleteMy neighborhood looks like this as well - but tomorrow should be a bit better (ok, and colder, but we can't have it all). Great appreciation of the ice through the lens!
ReplyDeleteAn ice storm is one of the most beautiful acts of nature. Went through a bad one in 1998. We lost power 4 days but some folks were without for 10-11 days. We had two woodstoves so we were okay.
ReplyDeleteAnd JILL ~ if you read this...we think we lost our Magnolia tree! :( The ice was just too heavy for it...bending it clear to the ground and breaking some of the main center branches. Now that part IS sad!
ReplyDeleteIce is nice ... to look at from the warmth of inside your house :)
ReplyDeleteYour photos are gorgeous. I love the birds, especially!!!
ReplyDeleteWe had ice today, too. Not lovin' it. Boo. Hiss.
It has been amazing to see all the different pictures of the historic snow strom from all over blogland. Your's are one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteBeauty and burrrrr!
There is something almost magical and mystical about an ice storm. Familiar objects grow eerie and well known places turn foreign. There are tree limb "gunshots" in the night, and shattered glass ice drops from the heights as the temperatures rise. For months it will look as though a giant weed whacker has been through. It was April for us and the ice didn't stay too long but the power was out for four days at our house and longer at others.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping it melts soon!
Martha ~ it is true that we always remember them!
ReplyDeleteThere was a bad one when I was in high school in the 70's. And a bad one in the mid 80's. We lost power then for days and lost a tank full of salt water fish. ugh.
The photographs are great!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get your power back soon. One of my favorite memories is of an ice storm, some great neighbors, a half of beef that had just been bought to freeze. We had the only grill. :) We ate like kings for a week.
Be careful!!
oh everything is all sparkly...ugh on power outages...mine was out a long time when we had one a few years ago...have fun with it.
ReplyDeleteUm, our power isn't out, guys! I said "we were fortunate" :) No, we are cozy and well-lit in our home.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm glad we didn't get the ice you did, even though your photos are beautiful! We had an ice storm last year and the destruction to the trees was terrible. Glad you are one of the lucky ones with electricity...candles are fun for only so long! Stay warm, Betsy!
ReplyDeleteOnly Betsy can take a storm of such magnitude in the country and find the most beautiful and positive pictures to remind those in the middle of it, that this too shall past... and Spring will come.
ReplyDeleteI just gazed with awe at all your lovely photos. Just stunning!
Thanks for sharing your beauty..of the soul and the camera :D
ReplyDeleteI am trying to see the beauty...really I am. But I tire of these snow and ice filled games! I want spring please!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes I know...it is beautiful. The ice and the white, white snow. The drifts so sculptural and ethereal. But I want spring....now!!!!!
Hugs
SueAnn
Yet again, wonderful pictures Betsy. I think we have the balance just about right : you suffer from all that cold and ice and take the photographs whilst we can sit in our warm rooms and enjoy looking at them.
ReplyDeleteWow, you captured the serendipity really well. How unfortunate for some to be without power.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I really wish I had the views that you have out of your windows! :)
ReplyDeleteAfter 20 inches of snow yesterday, it's a good reminder that there is beauty all around. Today there is beautiful sunshine, even though it's near zero. Love the photo of the female cardinal!
ReplyDeleteI love all the punches of red in your photos! I do not miss the persistent, chilly Ohio winter wind. If we get even the threat of ice everything shuts down. EVERYTHING!
ReplyDeleteAs inconvenient as well as right down dangerous sometimes, the ice and snow sure add sparkle and beauty to the world (at least for a little while, then it gets right down sloppy and messy). Beautiful photos of winter.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen everything coated in ice like that, we don't tend to get ice storms here in that way. Luckily the pretty birds seem to be warm and fluffy still.
ReplyDeleteWell, YOU made the ice look all pretty! The sun shining today despite the cold was SOOO welcome! Hope the auction went well!
ReplyDeleteI really love your photos, Betsy ... they're fab. I'm very impressed.
ReplyDeleteBTW, what camera are you using & do you use a telephoto lens as well?
Thanks, Justin. I have a new camera and am still learing how to use it. It's a Nikon Coolpix P100. It has a 26x wide zoom on it. I still need to read the book! ha.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you guys have power! I know the boys are creatures of routine, and I'll bet they don't take kindly to power outages--no looking up trains on the internet for Spencer!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen berries so covered in ice and preserved like that before. How beautiful.
