Random Thoughts

deep dish pecan pie waiting to be baked
Today's sky. Click to enlarge.

1. I want to take a sleigh ride just like in my header picture!

2. I never leave the house on Black Friday. We sleep in, watch football and eat leftovers.

3. I bought 2 Christmas gifts today. I guess that means I've officially started the shopping! I remember a time before we had any kids, when my goal was to be completely done with the Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving! My, how times have changed!

4. The leftover turkey is now in the freezer. Isn't it funny how there is never leftover dessert that needs to be frozen? Maybe that's because I eat pecan pie for breakfast. ha.

5. Today I baked the Halloween pumpkins, which had been upgraded to Thanksgiving pumpkins, ran the flesh through the food processor and froze it for future pumpkin pie, bars and bread. I even roasted the seeds with garlic, worcestershire sauce, butter and salt. Yum.

6. Why is it that fingernails can look nice at a long length but toenails never look good long? haha. I'm only thinking this as I just trimmed the triplet's nails...all 60 of them! :)

7. I have 15 very large gourmet food Christmas gift baskets to make this week. Although it's a lot of work, I look forward to this annual order from an attorney friend. It's an opportunity to be creative and shop for all those fun, beautifully packaged festive goodies which I love.

8. My jeep told me today that my tire pressure was too low. Sigh. I love that...he's so smart and helpful, too! Mmm.

9. I plan on putting the Christmas tree up on Friday when the gift baskets are all done. But I can't find a spot! Mr. Monster Fern is taking up more than his share of the living room!

10. I'm craving popcorn and a Diet Coke. :)

  2. Now that is such a wonderful way to decorate your pecan pie...Love the looks of the pecans around the edges. Now are the pecan in the filling chopped up?

I so the same thing on Black Friday. Stayed in my nightgown til noon, and had leftover pecan pie for breakfast and lunch!!!

My dearest is fasting today for a procedure tomorrow, so he has requested Turkey Pot pie tomorrow night... That will take care of my turkey leftovers.

  11. I had pecan pie for breakfast today too!

Since the Mister has his Kindle and that whole relationship issue, maybe you should name your Jeep, like Ken or something. HA!

  12. Oh, and I get as much shopping done before Thanksgiving as possible. I also do everything I can not to step foot near or into a mall.

  13. Oh that pecan pie looks fabulous. I am just now embarking on a pie baking hobby and have made 4 so far. I hope one day to make pies as pretty as that one. Do you happen to share recipes? :)

  14. What is it with pumpkins over there? I love roast pumpkin but wouldn't like so much of it in my freezer! It's like everything, too much of it and you'll never eat it again!! I did this once with Cointreau; overdid it on the rocks and will never drink it again! I've never tasted pecan pie either, looks delish! :):) ♥a

I would have pecan pie for breakfast too...but instead I had pumpkin. Just as good, right?
I went out shopping on Black Friday since I was traveling home from my sons' house anyway. So we stopped on the way home and shopped. It was fun and then we went out to breakfast...good times for sure!

  20. My husband likes pecan pie for breakfast....he has one more piece left. In a couple of weeks he will ask, "anymore of that pecan pie left?" He thinks pie lasts indefinitely.....ha

  22. Aww I'm hungry now. Our tree goes up on the 4th, I love having it. Do you ever make Pumpkin soup. It's very popular here and I mentioned it to an American friend who was horrified.

  26. Interesting about your Jeep talking to you. I have a Peugeot that I bought in a mad moment in France. It too has a computer which tells me when I leave the lights on, a door is open (even which one!), when I need to top up the screen wash, the time and date (in France of course!), if I left a window open, and loads of other useful information. . . . . in French!

Heureusement, je parle français, comme un danseur de boucher des Appalaches!

  27. Just hang a few ornaments on the monster fern!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Keith ~ Your Peugeot sounds wonderful. My jeep does all those same things, too...but in English..American English! :) You need to post a picture on your blog!

  29. Farmchick ~ that is a possibility! LOL! It may come down to that!

  30. pecan pie, sleigh rides, freshly cut toenails...it is the little things isn't it? I personally love it when my Camry tells me about my tire pressure. It usually happens on our first and sometimes only cold day in Dallas.

Pumpkin puree? Home-made? You are my idol.

  31. That pie is so beautiful...it wouldn't have been leftovers at my house either!

  32. That pecan pie looks delicious! It sounds like you've got a good start on Christmas. I did a little shopping tonight. But we haven't started decorating at all : )

  33. Cat ~ I'm not touching the decorations until this weekend! I did our church and now I need to get these gift baskets done...THEN it will start to look like Christmas around here. Just as soon as I figure out where to put that tree! ha.

  34. 15 gift baskets and 60 toenails? WHOA! Betsy, you need to slow down.

funny you mention toenails in fact as just this morning, i read the most funny bumpersticker. It was from an obvious hiker gal who proudly boasted:

    "toenails are for sissies!"

Yeah, we;, give me the sissy girl then instead is what I wanted to slap over it. lol. hahahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mmm ~ haha..well I'm REALLY a sissy then, because not only do I like my toenails, they're always painted pink! LOL!

  36. You just answered my question about the tree that I asked in the last post. I should have read everything I've missed out on before posting.

I would totally eat pecan pie for breakfast today...too bad I don't have one.

I never shop on Black Friday either, but I always read the sales brochures to see the deals I'm missing.

  37. Your thoughts here may be random but I couldn't get past that pecan pie. Your lucky family!
