hadn't cleaned it in several years when it's as easy as turning a couple
of knobs! I'm glad I didn't have to use Jifoam, although if it transports
you to the beach and makes you as happy as the ad says, I would
be tempted to try it!
I knew if I wanted to bake that first chicken pie of the fall season
I would have to do something with the oven first or we would
have smoke in the house! Now the oven is clean and
I lined the bottom with a piece of foil so cleanups will
be a breeze! And the chicken pie was delicious!
God bless modern technology....and a few knobs to make life easier.
ReplyDeleteSo true! Although I hear the spray kind is much improved than when our mothers used it. I can still smell those toxic fumes they used to have. We all about died, but the oven was clean! LOL!
ReplyDeleteOne of the dumbest questions I ever encountered in retail was when a customer asked, "Does this overnight oven cleaner work during the daytime?"
ReplyDeleteWe've had our oven about a year now, I suppose I should clean mine too. I think I would rather bake a chicken pie because an oven that is in the midst of self-cleaning doesn't smell very good.
ReplyDeleteMr. Fox ~ haha...I had a similar question asked of me once where my recipe called for something to chill overnight. I couldn't help but say, yes daytime hours are fine too...it doesn't know any better there in the darkness of the refrigerator! ha.
ReplyDeleteCleaning the oven is not my favorite thing, even if it cleans itself.
ReplyDeleteNow, if the floor clean itself, I would be impressed.
Mmmm!!! Chicken pie!!! Makes cleaning the oven worth it!!! You are so talented!!! ~Janine XO
ReplyDeleteChristine ~ when I had 4 boys of toddler age I used to joke that I wished the kitchen floor had a big drain in the middle and I could just hose it down every night! ha.
ReplyDeletemmm...i bet that was good...i remember mom cleaning the stove before it became automatic...not a whole lot of fun...
ReplyDeleteThose old ads just crack me up when I see them. They're just so funny.
ReplyDeleteYour chicken pie on the other hand looks absolutely delicious. Can I come for dinner that night?
Silver Fox...I'd love to know your response! Were you even able to keep a straight face?
even with the knobs, I still don't clean the oven as often as I should...
ReplyDeleteI might have to though and try that yummy chicken pie. I'm hungry now..;p
I saw on a news story recently, a woman who configured her kitchen in a way that all she did was turn a knob, water sprinkled down from the ceiling, then soap suds, then rinse, down the drain in the middle of the room. She was in her 90's and had worked on it all her life....God Bless her heart!
JoJo ~ oh, I can't believe it...she really could hose down her floor? haha...that is so funny!
ReplyDelete@Kayren: Unfortunately, the customer asked someone else, who just answered "yes." I freaked, and told him "You wasted a golden opportunity! I would have told her the chemicals in the oven cleaner react with the moonlight, so it has to be used at night."
ReplyDeleteWOW...it look delicious! Now thats a full meal! ;D
ReplyDeleteOh My, Betsy... I do remember those days when I had to clean my own oven myself.... There was some kinds of spray stuff back then (Oven Clean or something similar) --and it stunk to high heavens... IF I ever smelled that smell again I would immediately know where I had smelled it... Yuk...
ReplyDeleteThank Goodness for the self-cleaning ovens these days..... Your chicken pie sounds yummy.... My Fall dish is pinto beans and cornbread. YUM...
Hugs,
Betsy
Our weather was cooler today, and I remembered I had some ingredients for Turkey Pot Pie.... Guess that will be on the menu this week, since you have reminded me! Your pie looks wonderful. Mine will be a much smaller version for my dearest and me.
ReplyDeleteWish I had a self-cleaning oven. I use the spray, turn all fans on and wear a facemask! Chicken Pie...OK, where's the recipe?
ReplyDeletealaina ~ the recipe is in the link to a previous post. ;)
ReplyDeletebetsy ~ yes, that smell is very unique...yuck!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a self cleaning oven. But then again, I use it so seldom, that it doesn't matter.;)
ReplyDeleteMmm, that pie looks indeed delicious.;)
xo
Oh, thank you, I missed the link...sorry! :)
ReplyDeleteOOoooo, I am gonna come over for lunch today and HOPE there are leftovers of your chicken pie! YUM!
ReplyDeleteI need to do my oven AND my deep freeze. Puttin' it on the list since you reminded me!
hi Betsy, after a very few deeply hard cleansing of the oven, I do use a piece of foil paper all the time in there as well :-) the chicken pie looks so good! happy day :-)
ReplyDeleteI love my self-cleaning oven (even if I don't use it as much as I should!)
ReplyDeleteYears ago, in a previous house, we didn't have an oven that cleaned itself, so when it got really bad I'd buy a can of the spray-on stuff and go to town. It was stinky work. One time, the cat happened to breathe in some fumes and went into respiratory arrest; his little lips were turning blue. I piled the kids in the car and rushed him to the vet's office. Cost us a lot of money, and I didn't clean the oven after that!
Kathy G ~ oh dear...that's scary about your kitty...those fumes were awful.
ReplyDeleteThat Chicken Pot Pie has put me in the fall mood!
ReplyDeleteI dont know what you were talking about Betsy.I just focused on the chicken pie LOL.Oh post that recipe sometime.I never made one from scratch.Have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteI also wish I had a self-cleaning oven... Mine needs doing and the freezer needs defrosting too... next week, I think! I wear a mask for when I spray the oven, spray it all over (holding my breath behind the mask), close the oven door and run like hell outdoors to breathe. Btw, I love your posts Betsy!
ReplyDeleteBecky ~ click on the highlighted 'chicken pie' and it will take you to the recipe. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love that chicken pot pie recipe. I'll be searching for the recipe in the link to a previous post.
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to do mine for a while now. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteI long for a chicken pie!!!! ha
ReplyDeleteI would have to eat the entire pie by myself if you know what I mean!!!
I'm comin' over. You had me at chicken pot pie... :)
ReplyDeleteI'd feel like shouting "yay" and waving my arms about if I ever cleaned my oven!
ReplyDeleteMy oven kept catching fire and I couldn't figure it out. Then, I finally realized that I had moved so often, I never had cleaned an oven except so the landlord would give me my deposit back.
ReplyDeleteI need to clean mine again, except it's a 1957 O'Keefe & Merritt. I'll have to use the awful smelling stuff! Here's what my oven looks like. http://ananchorage.wordpress.com/2010/07/12/pretty-please/
To be honest, I have never cleaned an oven in my life. I am 41, I have moved 26(?) times. There has never been much need. But we are about to reach our three year anniversary in this house, and I cook alot more than I once did. I suppose the poor girl could use it.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it will cool down enough here soon.
I have cleaned an oven with actual oven cleaner once in my life. What a horrible, disgusting job. Thank goodness for the self-cleaning variety that now graces my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI would love the recipe. That looks so good and your oven look beautiful!! I do the same thing with putting off cleaning it when it is soooo easy now:-)
ReplyDeleteTHE RECIPE......just click on the black words "chicken pie" in the text. It will take you to the recipe that I posted last year. :)
ReplyDeleteI recently cleaned my self cleaning oven for the first time. The burnt smell nearly drove me out of the house...that should teach me to do it more often!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about making a chicken potpie lately too! Mmmmm, so good.
Why did I have to go carb-free just before seeing that recipe?!!!
ReplyDeleteoh my goness that chix pie looks sooo good. adn the over is sooo clean. do you have to spray it with something first? I need to do that!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea - I've gotta try this. We have way too many smokey kitchen days, if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI am so copying your idea!
well our oven is supposedly self-cleaning but there seems to be some kind of misfunction. might have to resort to smelly fumes
ReplyDelete:o/
I lurve technology sometimes... especially self cleaning ovens! ha ha
