Sleeping in Chaos

Some of you may remember that I stripped wallpaper in
our bedroom last month. The walls underneath were a
disaster, to say the least. Uneven surfaces and bits of
paint remained even after lots of sanding and some
thick primer. We thought it was time to call in a
professional. He had the wonderful idea of installing
ultra thin, 1/4" drywall over the whole mess.
Wow...how wonderful...brand new walls! He started
yesterday, so we have our bed in the center of the room
and everything else cleared out. It was a little weird
sleeping like that! The full moon was bright without
a blind on the window and the plastic that covered
the floor made it impossible to tiptoe to the bathroom
in the middle of the night without making noise! LOL!
I woke up this morning feeling like I
was on a boat or an island! An early morning
rain shower made it hard to get up.
The Mister made sure he had his essentials, using
the window sill as a bedside table.
Yes, that's his Kindle there, with the phone and clock. :)
Me? I just wanted my coffee! And I didn't even need a
coaster with the dresser so close, covered in plastic!
Today is the mudding of the seams.
Can't wait to show you the finished room!

  1. I always love the end result of home improvement, not the mess beforehand!

  6. Too bad you didn't know about the wall before you stripped all that wallpaper! Did Nugget help the drywall guy or does he save himself just for you? ;) Hopefully the tiptoe-ing didn't wake the boys. Can't wait to see the finished room!

  7. Kayren ~ I know...a week of work I did on those walls for nothing! ha.
Nugget loves the plastic on the floor for some reason. He checked the guy out and then has stayed away...not offering to help. Maybe my feet smell better? haha.

  9. Even with your chaos...your cup of coffee and comfy covers, and your toes...it looked like a good morning! Did you have to move your coffee pot from beside the bed???

  10. Wanda ~ I did...the coffee pot went to the kitchen! I still had to bring my cup back and relax in bed with it, though! ha.

  11. Hey, in that gorgeous poster bed, it would be easy to escape any chaos! And...your morning cuppa surely did the trick! Are you painting or putting up new paper?
I love to hang wallpaper...but do not give me a paint brush!!!

  12. Think of all the fun you will have redecorating your 'new' room!! We have the same bed, or at least similar.

I was thinking of you today. My daughter, who is studying interior design, has an assignment to design a room for an autistic child. Do you have any suggestions?

  13. Hope you remember to cover the vents in the room... or drywall dust goes through the whole house. Can't wait to see it finished.

  14. I await the finished room anxiously! :)

  15. Blondie ~ Exteme Home Makover did a bedroom for an autistic child once. I bet she could find it on their website and get some good ideas. I remember it being very well done. That's a tough assingment since all these kids are so different!

  16. Maggie ~ that is a good point! He hasn't started sanding yet so I will do that. That dust is awful, isn't it? It's like sprinkling powdered sugar all over every single thing in your house. In fact, I was going to do some dusting today and thought I'd better just wait until he's moved on to the painting!

  17. Wow, that's a lot of work you've got going on there !
I understand your reservations about the wallpaper and it's mess, but oh, how I love wallpaper...
I'm sure whatever color paint you choose, it will turn out gorgeous.
Looks like summer kind of sleeping ;)

  18. AND you're managing pretty toes in the midst of the chaos! Well done - looks like it will be so lovely when it's done....

  19. BPG ~ It was so much better to show you my toes than my 7am bedhead, believe me! ;)

  20. I can't wait to see what will transpire!! I am sure it'll be beautiful! What color? Or is that surprise?

  21. I can't wait to see the results of your room makeover. Since I've been off work, I've watched a lot of HGTV which has resulted in the itch to update my living room. Maybe I'll get started on that next week.

  22. Nice toes, Betsy!!!

What's on the Mister's "Kindle"? I have got to get one of those.

That would be so cool - to wake up and feel like you were on a boat - without the seasickness!

I look forward to the "after" shots.

  23. What no bed head pics, just those darling manicured toes?! ha ha Just kidding! That IS a great idea about the thin drywall!

  24. Well Betsy, Sometimes it just pays to bring in the professional and bite the bullet and pay someone to fix it!!!!! I think you have done the right thing...

Can't wait to see the finished product when it is all done...
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  26. Kat ~ the Kindle has a lot of history, biographies...non-fiction. When he's home, his nose is always in it! ha. It down loads complete books in 60 seconds. He loves it!

  27. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished room. Right now you're living the way we so often live!

  28. Christian ~ you guys are the pros of remodel life! I haven't driven down the block for a bathroom or washed dishes in the tub yet. ha.

  29. Oh, fun! Reminds me a bit of our midwinter bathroom remodel. It was a little like showering inside a cave.

Can't wait to see the results.

  30. Well, duuuhhhh? Guess who did not read comments regarding paint vs wallpaper....??
There are such beautiful shades available these days. I am looking forward to the "new" look!

  31. Firelight ~ yes, it's going to be paint...a fairly dark grey...nice and restful. :)

  32. I bet the boys love all the commotion and adventure. Does that mean all that scraping was for naught?? Our school ended just today and I thought of you having already spent weeks at home with the triplets. You should live in NY . . .
