Jill ~ it must be neat...he says it is and hasn't stopped talking about how 'sweet' it is. It can download an entire book in 60 seconds! He doesn't know it, but the leather case and light are going to be under the tree! (shhh!)
teehee...my wife probably feels the same about my books sometimes...i just dont think i could use a kindle, unless they add a little scent emitter that made it smell like a book...
I giggled when I read it. You're funny! I'd like to hear what he thinks about it later. I don't know anyone who has one. Maybe because they don't want to admit in this day and age of scandals going to bed with 'Kindle."
I have to have the book in my hands!!!! Then I have to keep them!!! Therefore, I have way too many books. It is wonderful that he likes your gift so much though Betsy...It's hard for me to buy for men!!
I have one, Betsy. And I really like it a lot. The really cool thing is that you can take along hundreds of books with you on a trip - to wherever - and they all together weigh about 10 ounces and take up only a tiny amount of space. The other really cool thing is that you can snuggle under the covers with only one hand exposed to hold the Kindle - AND you can turn the "page" with the same hand you are using to hold it. AND...you can purchase a book and have it on your Kindle and ready to read in a matter of a couple minutes - or less.
I also have magazines delivered to mine. BUT - no photos, really. It does some photos, but the quality is not so good. The Kindle is not for picture books.
What a great gift idea! I think it would be really nice to carry in your purse to use when stuck waiting or when traveling. You could have any book at your fingertips and not have the bulk of carrying a book.
Lady Cat and Angelmay ~ that certaily would be an advantage...to have a ton of books with you in such a small gadget...perfect for traveling or sitting in a waiting room somewhere!
Niiiice giftie Betsy! As much as I lurve to read, I still prefer a hardback books myself. But I can relate I take my IPhone to bed as well to read blogs and watch YouTube to help me fall asleep - best little handheld computer out there in my opinion.
I had been pondering the purchase of a Kindle myself and wondering if I would miss the feel of a real book. Then I found out that I live too far out to download anything on it!!
Otin ~ A Kindle is an electronic reader. You can download 1500 books on it...it's about 5x7 inches and very thin...like holding a picture frame. It takes 60 seconds to download a book! You can also access the web with it.
I have on too! Mine is a Sony eReader. I think it's one of the greatest "gadgets" I have ever bought.
Like AngelMay I like to snuggle down in bed and read it; as she says with only one hand out in the cold holding it.
The big advantage is that the ebooks are cheaper that the real thing because there is no paper, or printing ink costs, no production or binding costs added to the price, and of course no postage and handling costs! And when you buy a book, its in your reader within seconds!
If you go here you can download 30,000 free books! That should last you through the winter months!
Keith ~ you could make a commercial for i! :) Thanks for the link..I'll pass it along to The Mister. With 30,000 books, maybe he'll remember me in a year or two! LOL! (I'm gonna blame you!)
thanks for the smile this day my friend!
ReplyDeleteThe Mister is the first person I know that has one! I have wondered if they are a neat "gadget" as they are advertised EVERYWHERE!!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to The Mister! You may have to put it in "TIME OUT!"

ReplyDeleteSome of my work buddies have one and they love it too. What a perfect gift for him! Great idea. No wrinkled pages or bent covers to worry about!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they are as satisfying as a real book.

hehe...caught in the act! Well, there's that satisfaction at having chosen the perfect gift, Bets, if that's any consolation. :)

ReplyDeleteFun, but I'm such a hopeless romantic when it comes to books. I would miss the scent and texture of the paper and cover.
ReplyDeleteBetsy, we need a consumer report on it after Christmas, I am seriously interested in one.

oh I want one!! But the Mister must tell me, does it hurt your eyes from looking at it for so long like a computer screen.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice gift. What's he reading?
ReplyDeleteI have heard it is one of the best gadgets around right now. Happy Christmas to the Mister and you. :) Now, about it coming to bed with you?...... :D
