visit Metamorphasis Monday at Susan's blog,
We didn't notice how badly the wallpaper had faded
or how dirty it really was until I removed part of the
chair rail border. Ugh!
The wallpaper steamer came in handy!
And Nugget was my constant companion!
Everyone needs a giant lop-eared bunny for a supervisor!
Here's that fun wipe-clean couch I told you about
earlier that I found at Big Lots. It's called a Click-Clack
sofa and can fold flat to make a twin sized bed.
Taupe colored walls, black furniture and red accents
make the room look great for boys who are now young men.
Since it's a small room, I kept the furniture to the walls
and left as much floor space as possible. It makes
vacuuming much easier, too.
I framed some prints from an old calendar.
Here's that funny 1931 print from the Toy Train Society.
The colors in this print were perfect...love the
lady traveler in her 1920's outfit! I did the
poor-man's style of framing here...cut out the
print from an old book and attached it to a
piece of printer paper with rubber cement
for a 'mat'. All the frames were thrift store
finds that I painted black.
And I made a sign to put above the window.
It was originally a shelf....the only part of a
bookcase that wasn't damaged. The rest went
in the trash and the shelf became a sign!
I got my inspiration from the talented
Susie Harris at Bienvenue!
I'm so pleased with the room that I immediately started
on the hallway....1980's striped walls and floral
border...they have to go! LOL!
It looks FANTASTIC! Very masculine, yet warm, inviting, and comfortable. I'm loving that Click-Clack couch -- perfect! Very nicely done Betsy, can't wait to see what you do with the hall.
ReplyDeleteMy Oh My!
ReplyDeleteLooks great and you are so clever!
Very cute bunny.
I love the "Golden Arrow" print. You framed it just right. Looks terrific.
ReplyDeleteChristine ~ yes, but anything would have been an improvement! LOL!
ReplyDeleteVery nice redo! What a good bunny too. I never knew that they made nice pets, but I know of a few people that have them indoors and love them.
ReplyDeletelooks fantastic and ready for some men/boys to enjoy! I love the sofa...it's sounds perfect and easy to keep clean. You can come over here anytime, I've got some wallpaper for you to remove..;p
ReplyDeleteLove the bunny. Love the room.
ReplyDeleteIt's so much fun to see the finished project after so much work has gone into it.
It looks fantastic! You know how much I love the black frames and doing it yourself. I'm all about that whenever possible.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to wonder if your entire house is/was wallpaper...seems like you take it down every time you have a redo. That's got to be a workout if you do!
Can't wait to see the hall!
Kayren ~ I did wallpaper almost every room in the house 25 years ago. Why? I have no idea! LOL! After the hallway, I'm doing our bedroom...not looking forward to that AT all! ha!
ReplyDeleteYou really are so clever, Betsy...and talented too! What a transformation. Clean, modern yet those flairs of your personal feminine, desingney touch! I love the way you framed everything and the railway sign. how very inventive. Quite inspiring, really. A job well done. I think the Mister needs to take you out to a jolly god dinner for all that work! :)
ReplyDeleteWow... Wow... and Wow again! I always love seeing your renos. You make it look so effortless and yet I know there is a ton of effort involved.
ReplyDeleteVery stylish indeed. Has a wonderful flair to it.
I hope the boys... er... young gentlemen... love it too.
Always helps to have a bunny as an assistant. Keeps the costs down!
Big hugs to you, dear Betsy xox
Suzanne
Nice Job!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what crap you find when you start digging into walls and floors!
Mmm ~ I'm certainly showing The Mister your comment here! Yes, I think dinner is a splendid idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job you did! What are the reviews from the boys? :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you did A LOT of work and it looks F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!! The color themes are perfect for a man's room. Lurve it! And... that train print with the red flapper lady is THE BEST!
ReplyDeletenicely done. i like the new look and how you were able to reuse the shelf to make the sign...too cool.
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation! I love the framed prints and the sign is VERY creative. You are the ultimate recycler. This reminds me of the HGTV program "From Trash to Treasure". They take old unused items and turn them into great new pieces like you do. Sounds like a decorating show may be in the cards for you...
ReplyDeleteLove-LOVE it!! That new leather sofa is tres, tres cool!! :^)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful make over; and you did use that fun picture with the twins with trains.;)
ReplyDeletexo
Hee. Good, good! And I mean a jolly good dinner, but a god dinner might be inspiring too. Just as long as your are spoiled rotten. You deserve it. A great wife and a great mother!
ReplyDeleteBetsy...this is awesome! You have to link this to Met Monday...perfect Met Monday post! :-) Stripping wallpaper is no phone, is it...have done my share in this house! I love the room...bet your boys do, too. The sofa looks comfy and so pratical that it makes into a bed. Love Mr. Bunny...how cute! :-) Susan
ReplyDeleteI thought you already did your bedroom, Betsy...was that only your bathroom? I remember a closet...seems like that was in your bedroom too. Now I'm really confused, aren't I?! I do remember Nugget always being your devoted helper though.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very manly room indeed. I love the way you added your own personal touches and your sense of humor with the twins photo. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteKayren ~ that was our master bathroom/closet area. I still need to do the bedroom to finish it off....as you can tell, I've procrastinated on that one!
ReplyDeleteSusan ~ oh yes, I'll be joining Met Monday for sure! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! What a transformation! The room has such a calm feel to it with the taupe walls. Love that you used the Golden Arrow print as your inspiration for color. BTW...I made the muffins this morning for the family and they were delicious. A big hit! Thanks for the recipe. And super job on the room make over.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!! You sure do know how to make a room perfect.Your sign came out too cute too! I think everyone needs a lil fur baby to help them along the way....so sweet~
ReplyDeleteYour new "boy-man" room is amazing. I am especially appreciating the black, wipe down sofa from big lots~~love that it converts to a bed!! You really did a fantastic job. You have my empathy, however, regarding the wallpaper removal...what a tough job!
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
Tracey
P.S. Love your little lop-eared nugget!!
oh it turned out just lovely ! ...or should I say...handsomely...

ReplyDeleteIt all looks very new and pristine, but will it stay like that?
ReplyDeleteI remember decorating my sons room in a manly grownup style, which cost a bomb!
A few weeks later it looked like the bomb had gone off in there. It resembled market day in Baghdad!
I dispaired. . . .
Keith ~ well, I didn't spend much at all...and I kept the clutter to a minimum just for that reason. It usually looks trashed but I'm hoping that will help!
ReplyDeleteSuch talent Betsy, you've done a wonderful job (with a little help from a lop-eared rabbit)
ReplyDeleteI think the sign is my favorite! Great job!
ReplyDeleteanother great remodel!!!! looks great! I love the framed calendar pictures!
ReplyDeleteLove the red accents throughout the room. Great job with the art work! Great redo!
